Ainge going off on Graham!

it's not as much it being a positive as it is just looking to see the negative. Besides hurt feelings, what are the negatives? Missing out on recruits? No.

Missing out on recruits...yes. How will top RB recruits look at us when we cannot even retain our own proven RB coach, who actually played here and resigned from a future Hall of Fame coach to return here? And don't give me "what RB did Graham sign?" CJG did his job; he had some very good RBs wanting to come to Tennessee. It's the HC's job to make offers commitable at the right times and close the deals. CJG was not exactly in an enviable position in that regard. So he wanted to be our recruiting coordinator. After Dooley was fired, he was in effect our recruiting coordinator, without getting paid for it. Without CJG, the 2012 class would have been a disaster. I don't feel sorry for any assistant coach making over a quarter million dollars a year, but I do believe the man earned more recognition than he received. I think Coach Graham means a lot more to our players and recruits than the HC who will be here for thirty years realizes.

Ok so this is where we are now: Forget what Steve Spurrier's opinion was (remind you a legend in the SEC, national champ winner), forget JG was a recruiting machine at SC...we are saying JG had lousy work ethic based on this new guy Butch who hasn't proved a damn thing except he that his old staff in Cincy was apparently the best in the nation? Seriously?

"recruiting machine"??? Please give me the names of these recruits that he has pulled. He wasn't the lead guy on Lattimore because he signed right after JG's first season. He was an instate kid that was going to SC regardless, anyway.

This is just a statement that is perpetuated on message boards and has taken root for whatever reason. I'm sorry....a coach that has had 6 jobs in 8 seasons doesn't qualify for "recruiting machine" yet.

I think what people fail to realize is something that CJG realized after NSD. It would explain his SC comment and it would explain him leaving to work with Randy Sanders. He realized that sometimes you just can't come home or that you shouldn't. While he was not at UT coaching he was a beloved Vol, sought after and appreciated. He makes the popular move to come home to coach and is praised and the thought of him coaching here is beautiful. Then, the coaching staff gets fired and HE (yet again) has failed to bring in the "big" RB recruit. And true to form, Vol Nation starts trash talking him. Better to cut bait now and work with former Vol friends than to stay and lose your Vol legacy by whiny "fans" that don't know what they are talking about. Its better to take the hit now and move on with his career. He will ALWAYS be a VFL, but the reality is it may be better to be a VFL elsewhere.

SC led most of the way, but Auburn was very much in the race for Lattimore. CJG had a lot to do with Latti going to SC.

Probably upset that it took an offer from Free Shoes U for him to get a raise. The man should have been payed according to his importance to the staff & team. This could have been brewing behind the scenes (since salaries were announced) for some time. Who knows?

You're right - who knows?

Yeah, but he was under some pretty intense pressure to stay home.

I don't deny that in the least, but the people trying to deny CJG of any credit in signing ML are mistaken.

I'm certainly not trying to say that CJG should be given ALL the credit for USCe signing ML21, but he did play a pretty important role in getting him.

From what Ainge is saying, Graham doesn't want to put in the work that Coach Jones is demanding. Ainge also pointed out that Rajon Neal is wearing a blue jersey currently which according to Coach Jones color schemes is bottom of the barrel.

This should serve as a wake-up call to everyone that it is a completely different environment with Jones and the he is going to be a very demanding coach and that he's not putting up with crap. This is a good thing.
Good to hear... JG like peeps have been saying is not greater than this historical football program... Sounds like JG is not wanting to do work to return this program back where it once was...

Too bad to hear this if true, this Univ. has given him this opportunity by paying for his education for him to shyt on us is pretty pathetic, I agree with Ainge if this is true....

JG saw the writing on the wall... He regretted leaving a winning team and doesnt see winning here anytime soon. Things will be much easier in the state of Florida and I dont blame him for going to a better situation.

Coaches are leaving here at an alarming rate, again, the writing is on the wall...
I am crying inside as I type this btw.

Please stop with the dramatics. So many are 'accessing there crystal ball' to explain why Graham left. And now, coaches are leaving at an alarming rate?

People need to understand this is a 'long term' process. Stop 'jumping off the cliff' every time seemingly negative news comes out. Thus far, I'm on board with the process that I see. I like Coach Jones's enthusiasm. Next up, let's see who is hired as 'rb' coach. But even that won't indicate effectiveness over the upcoming years. The way forward is to support your team and build up the program (not tear down). Now, if we have several years of incompetence (based on actual results), then I'll join the 'lynch mob'.

As for Graham? EA seems to offer some good perspective.

So people are upset because Graham wanted to make more money and provide for his family. Who is to say that Graham and his style of play was a good fit for our new offense. Graham taught more power running and we are going to be a spread offense.
News flash: We ran a no huddle "spread" last year.

JG left a good situation at SC to come here. Obviously it wasn't what he hoped and he got out. People do that all the time. When he came back to Knoxville, he took a job not a position in the mafia.

Not really , he left a $175,000 job and has parlayed that into a 72% increase in a little more than a year . Obviously he has got what he hoped for ........twice

He had a stable job at Carolina. Leaving SC for UT was a pretty big risk.

Coach Graham is a very solid and steady professional football coach. It might be that he just did not feel comfortable working with Jones, who probably reads the latest self-help books for salesmen and corporate climbers and bandies about all of the trendy social psychology buzz words. Talking heads can gossip about this and that, but my guess is that FSU was just a better fit for Graham, for more money.
