Air fresheners are illegal in Minnesota

They still produced a fair few confederates themselves. Stone Wall was from what would become West Virginia. They sound more like us than the damned Yankees do

Well they are literally the only state who seceded from a Confederate state. Nevada was formed during the civil war but not from a Confederate state.

I dont know how much more a state can be considered north than to literally break away from it's current state and start shooting it's own neighbors.

Opinions of what is and isn't southern are opinions but facts are the state wore union uniforms.

Every state had some group of citizens who disagreed with it's own allegiance. Hence, the underground railroad existed and hence many Africans in Cincinnati were kidnapped and sold across the river.

I’m torn. Some of the parts of town and incidents I’ve experienced the last 5 or so years has made me more understanding of why the cops are so violent sometimes. On the other hand I’ve seen my dad on the other end of a jerk cop on a power trip and it wasn’t fun and I’ll never forget it.

I'm like you. I'd prefer that our cops were more like what English Bobbies were, but at the same time you know they'd be eaten alive in some places. Hard to say what should be given the circumstances, but the militaristic attitude isn't working.

So half Yankees? I like country roads so I tend to pretend to forget they joined those people

I will say the best pizza you will ever have is the pizza place on Parkersburg wv across from the high school.

It is worth a 500 mile drive. Trust me.

Everytime I am in Columbus I take 33 over and grab a large. Best pie in America.

It’s hard. I’ve worked in bad parts of Dallas and Fort Worth and it’s a whole different world compared to where I grew up. I can hardly blame trigger happy cops when they are more often than not justifiably scared . But I’m also no fan of abusive government either. I tend to think that we’re probably safer when our police have teeth even though that can have a pretty horrific downside. What happened a few days ago looks pretty bad unless there’s something I’m missing.

It’s pretty sad all around. Also frustrating because there’s no good answer that’s practical

Good grief. "I'm not a fan of abusive police, but please be abusive police force. Give them more "teeth". "

We need to demilitarize cops - back way up from the 9/11 kneejerk reaction that started an even more toxic culture in police departments. It's a tough job, not one I'd want, and apparently too many people become cops for the power trip. I'd start with cars brightly painted in the yellow and blue style like Europeans, and the reflective uniforms used there, too. Less equipment on the belt might help with the misidentification of weapons.

Another great example is the traffic stop of an Army LT in uniform in VA. I'd argue that his one transgression other than possibly speeding or whatever got their attention was the temporary tag behind a too tinted rear window. Other than that, he drove to a lighted spot and stopped, and the cops handled it completely wrong from there. No excuses for that kind of performance. The cops acted like rabid pit bulls.
You shouldn't give cops a gun until they have been on the job for at least a year and they have to be a ride along to a ore senior cop. That addresses both of the highlighted issues you mentioned.

I don't know about that, Ras. You are right about the probationary thing and the partner, but the way things are, cops still need a way to defend themselves, and I definitely don't know a non lethal answer to that. What was disturbing about the VA arrest of the Army officer was the older veteran cop was definitely no role model for anybody. You have to wonder why nobody ever questioned his abusive and confrontational demeanor before. Maybe I'm way off base in my thinking, but I'd like to think cops would start out a lot differently when they know someone is military - a matter of respect would go a long way when you already know a little about a person's status.

About a point you and a couple of others have made. Politicians with their silly ass excessive laws put a lot of people in danger. Perhaps when enforcement of bad law goes all wrong we should drag the legislators in for a piece of the punishment. I don't think you can excuse all things people call petty though; for example, taillights are there for a safety reason - they need to work.

the aftermath fun

Great example of a community looking for "well deserved" respect. It really gets to the heart of the matter in a thoughtful and pointed manner.

Thinking back on that VA incident, the older cop was the most out of control of the group and the young rookie looking guy who drew his gun immediately after the stop appeared to be shaking like a nervous wreck. So even having a rookie train with an older cop has some holes in it.

Simplify the belt and equipment - quit trying to replicate the wild west. Sounds like it was all to complex for this one to handle.

I watched a docuseries called the American west with my dad on tubi. It was slightly geared left but I honestly learned alot.

Had no idea Jesse james asked billy the kid to join his gang after his brother left. If billy had of said yes Jesse probably doesnt get shot in the back of the head and billy doesnt get ambushed by pat.

I also had no idea custer leaked gold being found in the black hills which inevitably led the the demise of the native american peace agreement by Grant.

Your post made me just think of it but it was a very informative series.

Billy the kid and Jesse James are you sure? Billy literally would have been a kid during Jesse James’s days. Also pretty sure the Kid was never in Missouri for any duration of time but maybe I’m wrong

Guess it depends on whether or not you believe the claims of Brushy Bill Roberts as to being Billy the Kid. Who really knows?

Sounds like she got scared and crapped the bed. Doesn’t mean it has to be racial.
without a doubt.....I posted a video of a guy breaking down the shooting.....you can hear her saying "I'm gonna taze you" while she has the gun pointed at him. It was an accidental shooting......a very careless accident
