Alabama fan fired after tweeting he was 'glad' receiver struck female Tennessee fan

Same. Everyone I’ve worked for in the last decade plus had a social media policy and also just a general policy for how to act when you are representing the company in any way. Only time this wasn’t a thing was periods where I was an independent contractor. Most companies also have annual ethics training which often reiterates things like these policies too.
Exactly. thats why I stay off of social media. Here is about the only thing I may come on. No facebook, twitter, etc. Safer that way.

You're correct, but that is my point, who decides what is classy behavior? You, his company? Yes, you got it right this time but who decides where the line is drawn? Old school I know.
Oh my view is old school too. The company ultimately decides with input from his superiors and theirs is the only opinion that counts. Anybody with any semblance of how to act knows trashy and rude behavior when they see it. And this situation wasn’t hard to see. Pretty simple really. The cream rises to the top and the sludge sinks to the bottom. If you don’t cull out the sludge, you won’t be in business long.

You do you bro. I will keep doing me. In my "leadership role" and producing at the highest level. Lol

If you are so proud of your leadership skills, why don’t you post the name of your company. You seem pretty confident and You don’t strike me as a hypocrite so you shouldn’t have an issue standing up right?

You started this my man.

Every company I’ve worked for in my many years in business had such a policy. None of them that I worked for would have tolerated it either and they didn’t need social media to deal with it.

I can’t get over how getting caught doing something stupid can now be dismissed as “cancel culture”.
It says more about those that claim it. It's like the people who use the term "snowflake" often.

You started this my man.

And to be honest. I don't blame you. You can say anything you want when you don't have skin in the game, but this guy's company does and they had to make a tough decision. Its easy for us to sit back and say "I would never....", because at this moment we are anonymous nobodies on a football forum. I wouldn't expect you to want to associate your company in real life with the things you say on here. And for good reason.

Too bad this guy didn't have the same philosophy.

I see it more as people who have zero involvement jumping on and getting a guy fired. Most had no clue what his business even did and would likely never use them anyways. If you don't like it just scroll by the random stupid comment

Yep. Figured.

What is funny is I have advocated in this very thread alot of what you have said. Where I drew the line was your assumption that I arrived at these decisions without prior experiences.

Today's societal interaction has taught people if you disagree on one thing that has to define future interaction. I am 50 years old and have never harbored I'll feelings towards those who don't agree with me. I have the ability to see that on some things people won't agree but that doesn't change the fact we still have many things in common.

I’m surprised by the outcome. I know nothing about the guy, but if I had to guess, this probably either isn’t the first dumb thing he’s done and/or he was easy to let go.

More thananything though, how many times do people have to get bitten by social media posts before folks realize how things work?

I appreciate that, but it seemed like you were suggesting that a good leader should have taken a different path than termination. I was just suggesting that this isn't as easy or simple as it might seem from the outside. People often see this as caving to the mob, when really you are trying to walk a line.

If I misunderstood then my apologies.

But he involved everyone with his comment. Not one person did anything to this guy. HE did it to himself. Stop worrying about people that begged for attention. He got it. And all consequences.

Involved everyone? He made a dumb comment into the ether. The crusade to ruin his life by people who have no connection to the man is absurd. They acted worse than he did imo

I'm glad to agree to disagree. If I were to make a pro-violence to woman remark, you don't think that should be taken seriously?

I think that’s the actual “cancel culture”. People seeing something they don’t like and going out of their way to drum up attention and get a person fired. I don’t care for this behavior personally, and think people who do it have to live fairly sad existences, but I think that should be their choice.

What I don’t understand is why anyone thinks the employer is wrong to take action when they become aware of the negative attention that is now associated with them. Like, companies and workers have a mutually beneficial relationship. If that ceases to be true for either party then it is acceptable to end the relationship.

Nobody complains when employees decide to leave their jobs for any number of personally beneficial reasons that they are harming their employer, even though often a company has significant investments in its hires.

Nor should they complain.. but it goes the other way too. If your company doesn’t wish to retain you find someone else who can make use of your talents.

As I mentioned earlier, he was responding to another tweet about an Alabama player who appeared to shove a female UT fan. This wasn't a random comment. If this guy was watching the game at a sports bar in Memphis and made the same comment in real time watching it on TV, what do you think the UT fans in the crowd would say/do?

And to be clear, I am not condoning people actively trying to get this guy fired, but this was a public comment with a lot of people already following the thread. It's not like somebody worked hard to dig it up. It was the equivilant of saying it out loud in the presence of UT fans. For all you know, the company could have been contacted directly by the woman who was shoved.

You assume it was made just because she was a woman? Upset fan said something stupid. It was not worth the outrage

How many similar comments are made on Twitter daily? I see them weekly on here

She's a woman. He said it. Therefore it's condoning and even calling for violence against women.

Problem is, it’s not quite “the ether” when you literally doxx yourself. It’s standing at the end of your driveway with something stupid written on a poster. I agree that anybody that contacted his employer needs to get a life, but there’s a lot of dumb at work here.

i know what the comment was and know it wasn't targeting a specific person

They would do absolutely nothing in person. They would shrug it off as stupid and move on with their life if they had any brains

I would bet a large amount of money they were not
