Either OSU or UGA. We don’t swing for guys like that it seems.
Seems like I remember a recent season-ruining loss at South Carolina that rumor attributes to one defensive starter who wasn't fitting the culture.thats the way it feels. The excuse is "We are looking for the right fit" what it feels like "We dont pay enough"
Maybe. But why not try? Why not throw a big bag of money at an ultra talented player at a huge position of need? What’s the worst that can happen? He goes somewhere else? I mean I don’t understand why we can’t just try. I don’t want to hear anything about fit. Downs fits absolutely ANY and EVERY defensive scheme out there. I mean at least go down swinging for crying out loud.Might be because guys like that don't pitch to us? Let's be honest. The "perception' of OSU/UGA throughout college football is just better than UT right now. I wonder how many of the recruits UGA/OSU signed had us in their top 3 as well? Yeah, we get a 5 star here and there that one of those 2 programs wanted, but for the most part, we seem, to my uneducated eye, to be swimming in different recruiting waters than the elite programs.
in all likely hood its just because we know Georgia was tampering with him to start. Hired his position coach from Bama too. absolutely nothing to gain by throwing an offer to someone our coaches don't want for whatever reason, and secondly everyone knows where he is going.Maybe. Isn't it possible that we did try and were rebuffed? Don't get me wrong. I'm a UT alum and have been going to games since '65. While I love UT, if I were a top recruit, I'd certainly be looking at OSU, UGA, bama in a different light than UT.Maybe. But why not try? If we are paying players they need to man up! Reality is in the real world they may get their feeling hurt many times over their lifetime. Its how they respond that will determine if they are successful. If they believe they are a commodity to be paid for their services then they should put on Big Boy Pants and earn it!in all likely hood its just because we know Georgia was tampering with him to start. the worst that can happen is that we piss off our own guys, spurring another bout of transfers or at least having to re-up the current NIL deals. that time and money is taken from getting other recruits we were chasing, who now feel slighted and lose interest in us. Heupel doesn't recruit like Bama and Georgia, no matter how much you don't like it. ruining our own recruiting scheme of fit/relationship for a single player is extremely short sighted, and could cost us more in the long run.
recruiting isn't about your instant gratification, in fact thats an incredibly dumb way to recruit in trying to please the fans or just doing something to do it because the player is good. I am sure the coaches weighed the options and made their decision. This isn't NCAA 2014 or Madden where you can just take the guys that you want.
Here is a perfect example of the fallacy that is their "team talent" calculator. "Note that most of those 17 3-stars that are transferring out were 4/5 stars coming out of high school." So they only get counted as a "3*" when they transfer out but if they stay on the team, the talent calculator still counts them as a 4/5*. So which one is it?Bama fans acting like this is the end of the world, but they had similar transfer portal numbers last year. That index score will come up as they add UW players that follow DeBoer.
Note that most of those 17 3-stars that are transferring out were 4/5 stars coming out of high school.

I mostly agree with this take (except for the tampering bit). Portal recruiting can wreck a team’s culture. HS recruiting multi-year guys is the main way to build sustained success. Teams cannot ignore the portal, but it creates lots of problems. For example, Bama is trying to backfill losing CB recruits by bringing in a 1-year transfer from Washington. To be fair, they need players badly. But he’ll be gone in a year, and there won’t be any depth behind him. If I were a new coach, I would take my lumps in 2024 instead of slapping a bandaid on 2024 and creating a bigger problem in 25-26.in all likely hood its just because we know Georgia was tampering with him to start. thats fine and all, except for the whole reality thing. these kids are in very high demand. they are setting the terms right now. you play their game or you are getting left behind. If we are paying players they need to man up! the tampering is all legal now anyway. I am sure Georgia was reaching out to the kids agent and not the kid directly. same difference, but one is NCAA legal.I mostly agree with this take (except for the tampering bit). Come on y’all. Making wishes doesn’t make everything better. It takes time. We are continually getting better. But we haven’t made it from a 4 win team to the top of the mountain yet.Must not be very impressed with Banks either. I know i'm not..
Or they can take their big boy pants somewhere else that makes them feel wanted and get paid the same if not more. That’s the reality of the portal. If we are paying players they need to man up! I’ve noticed the star rankings seem to drop if you leave as a backup, and it seems to go up if you leave as a star player on a team that is looking for a better school. Kinda an easy way to do all this quickly. Anyone else notice that? Here is a perfect example of the fallacy that is their "team talent" calculator. "Note that most of those 17 3-stars that are transferring out were 4/5 stars coming out of high school." Fify‘Bama fans on other sites acting like this is the end of College Football is absolutely killing me.
They have been spoiled by Saban for so long they have no comprehension what it has been like for other teams and their fans. We were gutted by the Transfer Portal before Heupel’s first season, and yet here we are.
They finally get a taste of what it’s been like for everyone else and they want to cry foul. I hope they plummet and wallow in mediocrity for a century.
And its only that way because we as fans have allowed it. I understand what you are saying but it is time for a course correction, as is life! What goes up , must come down. Sadly, It will continue to sprial out of control as long as we as fans continue to put them on a pedestal. At some point they will get a reality check.Or they can take their big boy pants somewhere else that makes them feel wanted and get paid the same if not more. That’s the reality of the portal.
