Alex Poythress

I think you just believe what you want to believe. His high school video could show him doing nothing but posting up and you'd pretend he's a 3. Fact is, he's listed as a power forward and plays power forward. To think he's going to go from guarding high school posts to guarding smaller, faster, better college wings on the perimeter and it just be a seamless transition is incredibly stupid.

To be fair, it is rarely a seamless transition for any player at any position.

I somewhat agree though, having three 6'8" players on the court at the same time might cause issues. One way to find out though.

For 5 star players that have big time ability like Poythress, he could come in and play his natural position and excel especially playing in the high school conference Memphis plays in.

However, imagine if we just benched Cam Tatum and threw Harris in at the 3 last year. He would not have done well. I expect the same will be true of Poythress, especially considering that Memphis has the most disorganized, unfundamentally sound style of play anyone can watch.

Dude, I've seen him play. This is not coming from a recruiting website or a youtube video; I've seen him for the entirety of several games with my own eyes. He's a small forward, and there's no arguing it. How many college 4's are 6'8" and 215? The kid is a crazy athlete. I don't expect him to struggle mightily with the transition.

Robert Dozier.

Even Pearl could have done more with the talent Memphis had last season IMO.

I'd hope so, he's been going for years. Last year was Pastner's second and he made the NCAA's. Pretty good for a guy with 18 mo. of coaching experience.

Good to know the good ole UT enamourment with regular season games didn't leave with coach Pearl.

We'll see ow this year's game goes.

I'm not enamored with anything. You all weren't a big win because you were a mediocre team from a high school conference.

Oh, I see. It's coming from a huge Memphis homer that has shown no basketball knowledge and no ability to be even close to objective when evaluating his own team. Wow, you've convinced me. He's obviously a 3.

And weighed 205 (10 lbs less than Poythress) and was extremely athletic, yet shockingly could only play the 4 and not the 3.

I think you're miastaking him for another player. Dozier weighed anywhere from 215 to 225 while he was at Memphis too.

You've got no foot to stand on here. You obviously haven't seen Poythress play, and must have been drunk everytime you saw Robert Dozier play.

Time to fold the tent, counselor.

I've watched just about every Poythress highlight video. I've seen plenty of evidence that he can take other posts off the dribble. He's obviously very athletic and is a good shot blocker. What I haven't seen is him ever guarding a 6'4 division level wing, but I'm sure you have. What I haven't seen is him driving around other wings.

His video looks like a more athletic, less refined Tobias Harris. And Tobias Harris struggled at guarding 3s and driving by 3s. Yet, he excelled at driving by 4s.

So, keep living in fantasy land.

with a much more storied history and much brighter future on the hardwood than your school. I just hope Josh runs the score up on 1/4.

We don't have much room for trash talk this year, but we did beat that ass when we were playing pathetically.

Typical response. But have fun talking trash to an athletic program that has owned you head to head in the only sport you actually have. I hope you guys are gearing up for your yearly war with Rice when your conference schedule begins.
