They also played through the Calipari years and TN still beat them. Lol, the most dominate period of Memphis b-ball, and still cant beat TN! In the only sport you play! What makes it even more funny is that you all hate that period now because of Cal. Taking your team to KY and winning!

Cal and Bruce split the games that they played.

I don't hate any period in Memphis bball, it's all great.

Do you guys hate the Pearl years? I wouldn't.

A coach coming out and stating that he'd rather play a team that brings some recruiting advantages with it is completely different than an administration deciing to discontinue games because UT was in a "slump".

Prior to Cal leaving the team, we had split the last 4 games with UT (I believe). When Josh was cleaning up the mess, Bruce reeled off two wins. Now, with Counzo cleaning up the mess, Memphis has a chance to return the favor.

1) I know, you pointed out the Pastner years, which were down years, so I pointed out the good years with Cal. We won no matter what shape you were in

2) All the memphis fans here in memphis wont even talk about the cal years

3) No, love them, and by far most TN fans do

Thats BS and you know it! TN/Memphis is a huge game so it helps recruting regardless. Then factor in guys like Stokes and Poythress and its even bigger. Especially compared to a Gonzaga or something.

Actually I think TN has won 4 of the last 5. I think Cal lost the last 2 or 3 versus TN. His best teams! It will take a decade for Memphis to catch up. Wont happen!

How does it benefit Memphis? It helped Memphis when Tennessee was a top 10 team (for RPI purposes) but now I can't see why they would care to play Tennessee. Just curious what your angle is on it. :peace2:

Because its a huge event in the state and city of memphis, has been for years. TN was in the top 10 last year. I know they didnt finish there and wont this year. However just because they will rebuild for a year or two, like memphis has, doesnt mean they are going to stay down. We sure dont plan on it! You dont drop a huge in state rival because someone rebuilds. You would have no one left to play because it happens to everyone. Plus it factors in on huge in state recruits like Poythress and Stokes. Pastner said himself he didnt want it because it let TN play in front of memphis recruits and didnt want to help TN get memphis kids. In other words...scared of TN!

You consider "splitting" as UT winning? I consider it a draw.

I wouldn't give the Cal years up for anything.

How does it benefit Memphis? Coming here to Knoxville and showcasing in front of all the local basketball talent? Pastner would rather be playing in Chicago/St.Louis/NYC/L.A. etc.

Also, Cal and Bruce were both 2-2 from 2006 to 2009. Cal won the last between the 2 in 2009. I was in attendance at TBA and remember the game. Reke was a beast that game. Then Pearl rattled off 2 on Josh.

I'm less than concerned that Memphis even the series. I like the game and hope it continues, but I'm more concerned with our performance post-season than in out-of-conference regular season games.

Any game against ranked opposition is a profile boost for Memphis, whether that ranked team is Tennessee or not. It's just that with Tennessee, they're allowing a team that desperately wants to recruit Memphis high schools into their own backyard.

As for fan interest, I've said this before and I'll say it again...this isn't that big of a rivalry outside of Shelby County. Fans on both sides care about it here...but I've never gotten the impression that Memphis is on the radar much up in Knoxville (especially before Cal got to Memphis).

Then you're stupid because the only way you all get a halfway decent seed is to play a murderous out of conference schedule in order to make up for playing high school teams the majority of the season.

This is the way I see it.

Memphis gets the RPI from Tennessee.

Tennessee gets to showcase itself with the Memphis recruits.

you just had the best 6 year run you'll ever have. In that same time, Memphis won more NCAA Trnt games than UT did, made 3 elite 8s to your 1. Never mind a Nat'l Champ game.

LOL. It's funny to hear about (insert team's) fan talk about (insert team's) fan when talking about tournament wins. If you didn't win it all, does it really matter????? Why are you bragging? Because your the 2nd or 3rd loser. Congrats on having more success than UT in the tournament but I'm really impressed with runner up banners :)

And that SOS is no longer solely predicated upon the UT game. We've got Louisville, GTown, Michigan, Xavier, etc. this season, our schedule will do fine without UT.

That's fine. I don't care if we play or not. I just find it humorous that 3 posts ago you were claiming that Tennessee shouldn't duck Memphis. Yet, now you're justifying your own program's attempt to duck Tennessee. Typical hypocritical BS from stupid, trash-talking fans of a pathetic athletic program in a pathetic conference.

Strong words to a fan of a program that deserves to be in the SEC.

Does anybody know where this kid is leaning, or everyone just want to piss and moan with a Memphis fan?
