All things health: nutrition, exercise, etc

The stuff tastes bad. I still tried it for almost a month before receding back to my previous stance on holistic medicine: it's garbage.

My problem is after dinner. I eat healthy all day, but if my butt hits the couch, my pantry screams at me until I go to bed.

Week and half in to trying to eat 5-6 small meals a day and no cokes, dropped 15lbs. Easy to do when you weigh 320. Got to start exercising now to keep dropping the weight.

I live in the 4th largest county in the country based on obesity rates...I have a friend who carries around a 2 liter bottle of coke everywhere she goes. She says it is because it is cheaper than buying a big gulp at the gas station, which is true. But, I point out that no one needs to drink that much soda in a day, much less the 2-3 bottles that she drinks each day.
Thats a problem, get the bigger, get the combo, etc because its cheaper.

One of my moms favorite clients was a guy who ate out all the time. My mom tells him to cut back and eat at home more. His response was that he didn't eat out much because he brings it home to eat. Yeah that changes the calories! Needless to say, my mom had a hard time not losing it.

It really is crazy what people eat and drink without even thinking about it. Super sizing fast food, sugar loaded coffees, ginormous servings when you go out to eat.

We went to a restaurant Saturday and the smallest prime rib they had on the menu was 12 OUNCES!!! That was too much for even my husband! So I ordered a salad and a side, and we shared the prime rib. (I just needed it for a vehicle to carry the horseradish.)

Wow i could eat a 12 oz. When i was like 8

I haven't had a soda this year. I've never been a big soda drinker.

EATING, on the other hand...

Run 6 days a week. At 30ish mpw right now but will be working my way up to 80 mpw over the summer then will settle back in to 50-60 mpw after then.

As for nutrition, I drink probably 2-4 liters of water a day and just eat when I'm hungry. I'll eat a bagel with peanut butter spread on it and a banana before my run in the morning, usually a turkey sandwich for lunch and a fairly balanced meal for dinner when I have time to make it with snacks in between. Essentially lots of carbs and a decent amount of protein with no sodas and as little sugar as possible. I try to get around 2500-3000 calories a day but I don't count I just eat when I'm hungry.

I am finishing up p90x, with about two weeks to go.

That, combined with eating a "primal" diet (read the book The Primal Blueprint for more info), and I've lost almost 20 lbs.

What's nice is that it has been a long, sustained, incremental weight loss combined with significant gains in strength and cardio.

I feel like this is probably a much more sustainable recipe than a 2 week crazy crash diet that drops ridiculous weight but also leaves you depleted, weak, and hungry.

I have done that kind of stuff in the past and it inevitably leads to a very quick relapse back into heaviness.

P.s., I know this will sound cliched, but with the primal diet and p90x workouts, I can assuredly say that I am (a few months shy of my 36th bday) in the best overall shape I've been in since early college almost 2 decades ago.

Eating about 3200-3400 cals a day. Slowly trying to reach 200. I'm sitting at 182 now.

I have a hard time saying no to good beer.

I've definitely cut back on the drinking... Limiting myself to Friday and Saturday nights.

Amazing micros two days a week > Swill seven days a week

Yes, cutting back on drinking has been huge for my health, I think. I probably only drink 5 or 6 times a month. Usually once a weekend, sometimes twice, occasionally going two weeks without a drink.

Also, when I do drink with friends, it's been 4 or 5 beers in a night, as opposed to 12. :)

Sodas have been pretty much non-existent for 3 or so years now. Sometimes I have one just at random, but it's mostly water all day. Sometimes some fruit juice if I've been to the store recently, but I go through that stuff quickly.
