Amazing how in one week

i can agree with most of that. you listen to alot of the recruits they praised jay. i would take him over probably over every other position coach on the team. the main reason is that he played at neyland and knows what it is all about. you are saying he wasn't that good, i agree with the analyst he was that good. i don't see the argument that we are better off without him. doesn't make any sense.
The best team in the nation doesn't have one former player as a coach so if being a former player is that important, you'd think Alabama would have at least one as a coach. A lot of recruits praised sunseri too and look how well we did in linebacker recruiting with him. No player goes to a school for a coach that's not even their position coach unless its Trooper Taylor. Azzani was big in Norths recruitment, Marquez's dad would even tweet Azzani.

graham out recruited him on a team that sucked and had a new staff. enough said. i think most anybody except some volfans right now that have there feelings hurt would take jay over gillespie. not saying gillespie is a bad hire, just saying i don't think we are better off.
And Graham doesn't want to be here. You got somebody in mind better than CRG who could come in right now?

Probably so. So dread it?, or approach it positively. I realize some go overboard, but does it really matter.
It's called hope and its as if some on here don't want others to have it. If it's a letdown, so what. I can handle it. Some can't, I suppose.

Great point of view and well said. Can't figure why some on here are negative every single time like clockwork. I know as soon as I see their name what's coming next ... Piss and vinegar about CBJ or anything to do with this coaching staff. Anywho, appreciate your view on things and wish more people on here had it.

holy crap for the last time we are not bama, we don't have satan. satan is that good. please don't ever compare one of the greatest coaches of all time to jones. holds no water. guys that were going to play in the 3-4 are going to praise sunseri because that was what he was selling. we did not have the personel to run it. being a former player does matter to some recruits. for christ sakes position coaches do matter why do you think wharton and kelley were tweeting they wanted taylor. you need to get the best players. graham was doing a great job. north's dad also mentioned that jay stayed in touch while dooley was canned. say what you want most people would agree that jay was a keeper. jones should have paid him. seems like you are grasping at straws trying to compare us to bama. saying graham was overated i think just says it all, it makes little sense. there isn't much argument to it.

most analyst disagree, running backs he didn't do well but he landed north miller ford harris and ferguson. take those guys away and we are around 50th in the rankings i disagree with martinez and azzaini. neither did much this year.

Jay Graham landed Ford? Which Ford? You don't mean Johnathan Ford who signed with Auburn do you? Theres not a Ford in this years class or on the current roster. And I'm not one who thinks Jay sucked cause he didn't. He got us in on and helped land some good recruits especially in the Carolinas. But I, like you, am still waiting on the top Rb he signed.

And your proof that Jay out recruited Gillespie? What is it? Your opinion. And not enough said about anything. And of course you don't think we're better off. My guess is even if CBJ and Gillespie land Hurd, Chubb, Kinlaw, etc this year that CBJ still sucks and we're not better off with Gillespie. . My guess is if UT went undefeated and won the national championship this year that you'd still hate the big east wannabes. No doubt about.

When did I compare Saban to Jones???? I'd love to see that. I said the best team in the country doesn't have one former player on staff and that is a fact. Most schools don't. The whole notion a coach is better cause they played here is laughable. I also said position coaches are very important so I don't know why you decided to bring that up. You keep bringing up analysts but Brice said on the pilot caravan that this hurts the most from a perception point. He said that yesterday. Graham was very average here in recruiting.

sorry bro foreman i meant, brain fart i guess. looking at the players both coaches brought in over the last year. i would take graham still, not saying it was a bad hire though.

now you are just being silly.

wth hell you just said bama don't have no alums on there team. that is bringing satan into the discussion. when you are satan you just have to be him the players will follow. look at espn and SI, both have articles on us losing graham. rivals also.

Saying the best team in the nation doesn't have any former players is not comparing Saban to Jones. It's saying Bama is doing fine without a former player as a coach. I could bring up most schools in D1 to also prove the point. Of course they are going to write about it, it's a big story. A former vol leaves his alma mater less than 10 days to coach at another school.

thats saying the best coach with the best team don't have any former players. some teams do some don't it is the preference of the coach. they also don't say former vol. they say ace recruiter leaves vols for florida st. didn't jones say he was going to hire some tennessee boys, i thought i heard him say that.

They want hits. Its not like Graham is a terrible recruiter. He was about as good as Terry Joseph was. Not bad, but not elite by any standards. The story is much better with Graham being portrayed as an elite recruiter. He isn't.
I don't even think Jones wanted to keep Graham. I think it was pushed on him to do so by Hart.

Graham did a great job as runningbacks coach and a good job holding this class together, but he is being overhyped because he is a former vol. If he went to school somewhere else, this isn't a big deal.

Malik Foreman and JRM have always wanted to go to UT. Harris was recruited by Hinshaw just as much, if not more than Graham. On 247, it says Harris was recruited by Butch Jones.

He did a great job with North, but the whole staff from Dooley and Jones deserves credit for that. He was blown away on his official here. It was over after his official, thats all head coach.

Ferguson was Chaney's guy, and I like Ferguson, but I don't even know who was really recruiting him when he committed here. Most of his big offers weren't still there since teams like Bama, Clemson, and LSU already had there qb class filled.

Graham was a solid hire here, and you don't want to lose him, but on paper, Gilespee is a better fit. I bold that because we won't know until games start.

The perception is all the sudden Jay Graham can't find his ass with both hands ,and another Big East wannabe coach gets a job here and becomes a Greek God...

Good ole Rocky top....

Remember when Butch was hired and people on VN were like, "HE BETTER HAVE FORMER VOLS ON HIS STAFF!"

And then he only kept Jay Graham, and people were like "Well its not ideal, I wish we had more VFL's on the staff, but at least we still have Jay Graham."

"WE LOVE YOU TEE!! WHAT A STUD RECRUITER! . . . WE HATE YOU TEE!!"

Good times.

I guess. I just feel like in some ways this "hope" leads people to have unrealistic expectations and puts a coaching staff who is already in a bad position in an even worse one. When people get their hopes up and do some mental gymnastics and talk themselves into the notion that a 10 win season is possible, when in reality, 6 wins this fall would be a HUGE accomplishment, then you've got people who are disappointed in spite of the fact that tangible progress was made. On the other hand, if people are realistic and go into the season knowing that UT is most likely a 5 win team, then anything above that is just icing on the cake. It's a lot like the deal at UF that Urban Meyer talked about when he left. When people have such outrageous expectations, then there isn't any room left to enjoy the wins (and in UT's case, progress).

Too many fail to see the difference between high hopes and outrageous expectations. And WAY too many fans talk about their expectations for their team, like they are sitting in upper management. I will leave the expectations up to Coach Jones and Co., and I will enjoy every win we get this year, instead of just the ones that I wasn't expecting. BTW, I HOPE to win well over 5.

We fired a guy who wasn't anywhere near our 1st choice and replaced him with another guy who wasn't anywhere near our 1st choice. Don't know what anyone really expects. The program is snakebit and it's going to take major systemic changes to set things to rights. The needed changes are going to require heavy lifting politcally and financially. I'm looking for changes to be set in motion after the 2014 elections.

i agree with most of this bro, still think graham is better than you are giving him credit for, but it is up for debate. lets just hope gilespee lands a ton of talent next year and it won't hurt us in anyway.
