Amazon lands The Lord of the Rings TV series

Thoughts though episode three.

Good - Many good landscapes and city scenes (Moria and Numenor)

Good - A very frightening fight between elvish prisoners and a Warg.

Bad - Too many one in a million events that make it look like the writers did not have a good way to fit the story together without them. For example, the raft and the Numenorean ship that show up to rescue Galadriel. The map/secret plan of Sauron that happens to be in Elendil's library. That Halbarad is the king of the men of the south.

Bad - No memorable dialogue.

Good - Acting is good.

Good - Most of the dialogue is good even though it is not memorable.

Bad - Pharazon gives a speech to some tradesmen as though they are his equal. Pharazon is King of Numenor, not a guy running for political office.

Bad - Numenor is hostile to elves because the tradesmen think the elves are going to steal their jobs! Tolkien is very clear that Numenor were envious of elves because people die and elves can don’t unless they are killed in combat or accident.

Bad - Some of the elves have super hero fighting abilities. They were good but not that good.

Good - Costumes and details in the sets.
Wow. in depth.

I like the show.

Technically Pharazon isn’t king yet. Miriel is the queen regent because her father is still alive. And Pharazon will have to step over her to become king. I believe in the Silmarillion she was forced to marry Pharazon but I don’t know if they will stick to that in the show.

Part of the fear about the elves taking the Numenorian jobs comes from the elves basically can work forever and tirelessly, while men cannot.

But other than that, that’s pretty how I feel. You summed it up nicely.

It seems every youtube channel review has bashed this show. That and she hulk gets a constant barrage of bad reviews

This is why everyone who has asked me how the show is I have told them to watch the first few episodes and to skip all of the noise they are hearing or will find on the internet. Too many people whole go from 0 to 100 over extremely small stuff now-a-days as well as YouTubers and social media people going for those extra clicks, thumbs up’s, etc.

Btw, just finished the last episode. So far I’m entertained and can’t wait until Season 2. Are they waiting a full year between seasons?

Finale was excellent. A few of the twists got me (I havent read the shows source material). At first I was like "no way was I wrong"..then I'm like "WHEW got that one right"..then "oh wtf didn't see that coming NOW it makes sense"..and wrapped it up with a "damn Galadriel is hot".

The sets and special effects were excellent. You can see where a lot of that budget went.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show.

She is definitely VERY easy on the eyes. The main three things I will tell folks who haven’t seen it yet are:

1) The CGI/scenery is spot on and top notch.
2) The acting is great
3) Thry got the right actress for Galadriel, she is hot, and the actor for Elrond looks nothing like the Elrond from the movies (yes I know it’s thousands of years earlier but I just can’t see it) and he isn’t the best looking dude either lol

She isnt that hot. But she is the perfect actress.

he is a Maiar. strongest of Morgoth's LT's.

I believe Gandalf and Saruman were also Maiar.
All of the wizards (Sauron, Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast, and the two Blue Wizards) were previously Maiar. There were also other Maiar, to include Balrogs and those Valar set to shape the universe (moon, stars, seas and land).

super excited to see how and why the other rings are created. Loved the subtlety at the end to remind us there are more rings to be created.

The song? Wasnt too subtle. Straight from LoTR.

Straight from the Tolkien work. But it spit in the face of what Galadriel had said. Yea, it’s canon, but it’s not what was discussed all season
ah its fiction. adaptation of a classic work. the trilogy are canonical iyam. silmarillion is pushing it.

I read a meltdown article that literally included a complaint that the rings took 90 years to create and they did it in an episode. Thank goodness the creators didn’t take 90 years to cover ring development.

Yes, he’s a Maiar. However the OG post was talking about Sauron’s form. What I was getting at was Sauron is known to shapeshift his form through the ages so that he could manipulate and control to get his way.

All of the wizards are also known as the Istari and each were known to follow one or a set of the Valar. Gandalf followed Nienna.
