If you are not happy, get out. He is the coach and we must support him! I am a fan of him, and there is no reason to dislike him! I see a bright future! #VFL

Lets look at some facts before we jump off the hill. We are no longer an elite program. Nobody wants to be our coach. We have sucked for several years now. We are a bottom dweller in the SEC. Our attendance has fallen off. We cannot keep in state talent. Alabama, Notre Dame , USC are getting our best in state players. We were beaten by Kentucky last year, We were beaten by Vandy this year. We have a fan base that is always running down everything associated with Tennessee Football. And yet we wonder why we cannot get a top flight coach. Now we hire a coach that was about our fourth choice and everyone wants to run him down. All I have to say is this continues to hurt our school and its recruiting for the future. Lets act like adults and get behind someone that has said yes to Tennessee. Not one of the many who have turned us down. I support our players and coaches , whomever they might be. Go Vols !!!! Potential recruits....................please come and play for us. We desperately need you, especially our in state talent.

Yeah, we're such a poor terrible desperate program and we would be lucky if MTSU's coach wanted our job!

STFU with this crap.

Anyone who honestly thinks that Bo Pelini would've made a good choice for us as a head coach is kuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. That man has never been a winner at Nebraska. The only years he ever had a good defense was when Ndamukong Suh and Prince Amukamura played in Lincoln. Pelini is a hot head who is a poor recruiter and an even worse game day strategist. Hell, look at what happened in the Big Ten Championship Game...his defense gave up 70 freakin' points to a five-loss Wisconsin Badgers football team. No way would I take him. In fact, Butch Jones is a much better choice for head coach than Pelini would have been.

I love these high and mighty guys that feel like it's the fans fault. The idiot tea bagging tree killing bama fans didn't scare Saban off. This is the absolute worst hire they could have made. Fans tend to get a little bit pissy when they pay the highest prices in the SEC to watch crappy coached football. I won't pay $2400 for season tickets this year. Me and the kids have a high definition tv at home that works just fine. It's really not about Butch Jones the person. It's about the AD screwing over the fans every chance they get. Plain and simple.

This. Exactly this.

I am right there with you. Too me, getting back on the fence after DD is a little bit of a leap of faith. Unfortunately, we seem to be back to the posture where if you are anything but 110% blindly supporting the new hire then you just need to go be a Bammer.

Exactly the same as when we hired Dooley.

How did he screw us fans over? He gave a good effort to get the top tier coaches and it just didn't pan out. You are not giving Coach Jones enough credit. Any other program would be damn happy to have him. Be a true fan and support the program and all that comes with it.

Pelini would easily have been a better hire than Jones.

NO BODY WANTED TO COME HERE!!!!

The question is why. Because of this search we now have our answer.

It has nothing to do with facilities, recruiting budget, salaries for coaches, fans buying in, stadium, nice town to raise kids and affordable, no state income tax, plenty of tradition as a winner and it's a place where SEC and National Champioships have been won.

The problem is that, rather real or percieved, something is not right between the football program and the administration. Not only did it give potential candidates pause this time, but the last two times we looked as well.

If the Gruden Fantasy did anything positive it shined a light on this "problem". Now, the question is will Cheek and Hart follow through and give this coach everything that Saban, Richt, Spurrier and Muschamp have? It's unfair to Jones as it was to Dooley to NOT do so.

We play those teams every year and to get to competitiveness quickly, we'll need help from JUCO's, especially on D. The standards should be the same and UT should let their grades continue here as they would at other SEC institutions. That would be a good place to start.

I wish Greg Roman would have gotten an interview, can't wait to see how he does when he get's his opportunity. Love to see his offense go up against Saban, ah well, maybe next time.

Oh, and if Hart didn't go after Gruden with the same energy he gave to Strong...lord help him.

This is what blind supporters are going to say, but it's not what happened.

It is absolutely what happened! He tried his best to get the coaches. Just because they want to stay loyal to their programs and jobs doesn't mean that Hart did a miserable job. I support Hart and yall should too! #VFL

This fan base wasn't going to be happy unless we landed Gruden or Strong and neither wanted the job. I'm happy with the Butch Jones hiring and willing to give him a chance. Most experts consider him a very good and upcoming coach and he's had great success at Cincinnati. Time to stop crying and get behind the new coach and lets see what he can do...let's face it, not many coaches WANTED this job.

If we would have hired Terry Bowden I'd have been more plussed...(I would've laughed, but at least i could see the angle)..this was completely unimaginative like the AD. Don't get me wrong Butch seems to be a solid coach, and I hope he ends up being Neyland 2 or even Fulmer 2, but he has not done anything yet in his career to deserve this....I hope he does, and his hard work accomplishes more then our current admin seem capable of...

December 7th 2012 and yes I'm extremely unhappy with this hire and having to watch a proud Football program die over the last 7-8 years....no one to blame but The University of Tennessee....we have some of the most passionate fans in the nation....can't blame the fans

This fanbase is so full of polar opposites it's ridiculous. You've got a third of the fanbase that is ready to quit and in no way will support the hire and then you have another third that is more than ready to pump sunshine up everyones rear.

I honestly think that 2/3 of the fanbase either needs to step back from the ledge or come off cloud nine and wait and see what this guy can do. Let him prove his worth before making a judgement one way or the other.

The one thing that Hart failed miserably at with this hire was bringing this fanbase back together. We continue to be at each other's throat.

Why are so many people refusing to see the fact that we just significantly upgraded the head coaching position? No, it wasn't a rock star hire, or even a huge name. But from all accounts, and according to his record, the man can coach.

Some of the biggest knocks I've heard on him include the fact that he just took over programs that Kelly built. Well....so what? He was able to keep the success going, and that's the most important thing. 90 percent of the time, bad football coaches are NOT able to do that. Look at the guy who took over for Tom Osborne. Another knock on him has been his recruiting....and again....do people not understand the difference between Central Michigan and Cincinnati compared to UT? Here, he has the resources to assemble a staff with better recruiters and will also have much better facilities, tradition, and support.

I'm not saying this is a home run hire, because that remains to be seen, but all I know is we brought in a guy who is 50-27 all time as a head coach, has a 32-12 record in conference play, and led his teams to at least a share of a conference title in 4 out of his 6 years as a head coach.

I'd say those credentials are a pretty damn steep improvement over the last guy we had roaming our sidelines.

No way am I excited about this hire. Totally deflated in regards to the football program. Hart, Cheek and whoever else that botched this thing needs to be gone by Monday.
