Android

So you constantly arguing and standing up for the iPhone isn't serious biz?

Serious? No it's not. I understand there are fans of both devices. The article was a joke though. It's one thing to make a legitimate point about something but why misconstrue all facts to make something appear to be better than it is.

Also got a message from ATT on my SGII that the ICS OS is ready to be downloaded.......I check that out as well.

I updated an i777 (ATT Galaxy S2) over the weekend with Kies. Didn't have any problems. They still have the same touchwiz over top so it won't look much different. I loaded Nova after installing ICS. I like the Nova launcher.

Humorous thread on XDA making fun of a a blog (and its posters) about iSheeps' 'customized' homescreens. Read it, got some laughs, thought I would share for those who don't frequent XDA.

This is my last response to you on this particular matter.
Please see the bolded above. While the article is real and like very factual, it is quite obvious that I shared for entertainment value only (and in the Android thread, NOT the iPhone vs. Droid forum in which your argumentative personality ran off those who now post in THIS thread). In case you didn't understand that:

IT. WAS. FOR. ENTERTAINMENT. VALUE. ONLY. IN. THE. ANDROID. THREAD.

Just because the iPhone home screen is significantly less customizable than any Android device's screens, doesn't inherently imply that the Android OS is "better than it is". Just that it's awfully difficult to do any real customization with what little bit of freedom a non-jailbroken iOS affords its users.

Nova is definitely an awesome launcher

What does jailbroken have to do with anything? It doesn't change or remove iOS. Using custom ROMs & launchers is no different than being jailbroken.

I take it back, for one more post, lol.

The difference is that with Android, you DON'T HAVE TO BE rooted, ROM'd, themed, or running a custom launcher to customize your screens.

Its not mine if that makes you feel better. I have to give it back tomorrow.

Pretty sweet from what I've seen thus far. Very smooth.

One of my groomsmen got a test unit from USCC for a couple days (works in management for them).

Said its pretty much everything its cracked up to be...and he's a huge apple wonk. Smooth was the exact word he used as well.

Thankfully I was eligible for an upgrade 2 weeks ago. I'm going to give the phone about 4-6 weeks on the market then finally upgrade from the Mesmerize (not the best in the world but that thing has been a tank).

Nexus 7 shipping mid-July. $199. Includes $25 to spend on Google Play.

Looks nice.

still wonder why they're so against expandable memory for this? Oh well, probably will buy anyway

no micro sd slot?

I don't care about the lack of a rear camera. Leaving out MicroSD is mildly disappointing but its another way to drive people to the cloud I guess.

I'm listening at 199. Honestly depends if there's a decent accessories market with it as to whether I'll buy one or not.

If the Nexus 7 included a MicroSD slot, I wouldn't be able to pre-order fast enough. I get Google's push towards cloud storage, but I just don't understand their reluctance to allow for an SD card. It is possible to have extra on-board memory and still use cloud services; Google's or other.

With the lack of an external SD slot, I think I might just wait until the next line of Nexus devices are unveiled in November - hopefully there will be a Nexus tablet that is 1) bigger than 7", and 2) includes expandable memory.

Wonder if it supports USB On The Go cables. I know the S3 does but not sure if that's Samsung or native Android support.

On the S3, you have a little cable that's microusb and the other end is a usb plug. You can plug in mice, keyboards, hard drives, flash memory readers, etc.

Obviously not an ideal solution for folks wanting it. Wish it had one myself.

you get it? Mine is still showing a 7/9 ship date from Verizon

Yes...................lightning fast and a bit smoother and quicker than the SII. Been playing with it a little over the last few hours and so far the "pop up play" (you can be watching a movie on your phone and have a little pip where you can text and email without stopping the movie) and S Voice are my favorite things so far. S Voice is very similar to my Siri on my wife's 4S. Very happy so far, but havent had as much time as I would have hoped to mess around with it.

Yes, I believe I read somewhere that the Nexus 7 will include host-mode, enabling the use of an adapter cable to connect to external storage devices.

That's pretty much what I was planning on doing. It seems like they built in a lot of options for the line of tablets they can make, so I'm guessing something a little closer to what I'm wanting will show up end of this year or Spring 2013.

I would probably be completely happy with a 10" with the 7's specs. An SD slot would be gravy.

Didn't think it would happen but the employee program that I can use to buy phones actually had the GS3 today for $99. Sweet. They sold out of the 500 they had in just a few hours.

Figure I'll get a couple hundred for my S2. So, I'm making money on this upgrade.

Now, the hardest part. Waiting on it to arrive, this week hopefully.

just activated a galaxy nexus. Pretty Legit so far. I have another upgrade in august but I'm just seeing if I want to stay with an android device

If you like playing with electronics, you should put Jellybean on there. Pretty sure all is working on the Verizon version now. Most everything, if not all, on the Sprint version too.

Interface is smoother and has GoogleNow which is supposedly a pretty slick app.
