You didn't understand what I said. The federal charges are more than just kids getting paid. As long as the amateur system is in place, kids will receive extra benefits, whether it's small or big. With the federal allegations, the coaches are getting paid as well and steering the kids to certain advisors, not just paying a kid to attend a university.
Extra benefits will continue in various ways in football and basketball.

The federal investigation isn't exclusively or even primarily aimed at regulating college sports. It's aimed at catching high profile tax cheating, bribery, money laundering and mail/wire fraud.
The targets will be coaches, agents, "advisers" and others who pay and/or take unreported money for steering kids to certain programs and related advisers and agents. Most of the kids who get touched by it will most likely be collateral damage except for the really big money receivers who may not have remembered to include pay for play bucks on their tax returns.
The NCAA will ride clean up and sanction the parties found guilty.
