Another update on FBI corruption case..

You didn't understand what I said. The federal charges are more than just kids getting paid. As long as the amateur system is in place, kids will receive extra benefits, whether it's small or big. With the federal allegations, the coaches are getting paid as well and steering the kids to certain advisors, not just paying a kid to attend a university.

Extra benefits will continue in various ways in football and basketball.

Agree.

The federal investigation isn't exclusively or even primarily aimed at regulating college sports. It's aimed at catching high profile tax cheating, bribery, money laundering and mail/wire fraud.

The targets will be coaches, agents, "advisers" and others who pay and/or take unreported money for steering kids to certain programs and related advisers and agents. Most of the kids who get touched by it will most likely be collateral damage except for the really big money receivers who may not have remembered to include pay for play bucks on their tax returns.

The NCAA will ride clean up and sanction the parties found guilty.

I just really don't get the logic. If you get paid to play, then you all of a sudden lose all interest in money?! I always thought rich men were the most money hungry of all.

If a recruit knows he is going to get paid when he gets to college, then someone offers to give him $100,000, he is is just gonna say, "Nah dude, I'm good!"? I don't thinks so.

The Kyle Alexander that plays for Tennessee?

Yea. The one that is getting some attention as being a 1st rounder next year. Surely you don't think agents aren't lining up for guys like that to represent?

Up until this article I thought it was all about recruiting and agents weren't involved.

I’m not even convinced Kyle Alexander gets drafted.

He’s basically disappeared these last few games.

Scouts are just going by his measurables.

I agree but you can bet your Ass some agents want him

Possibly.

It’s kind of a wait & see situation but I don’t believe nothing will come out of this.

But then again, we’re UT where unfortunate things can happen to us.

Not worried though.

The only point I am making is if this was only about recruiting we shouldn't worry about Barnes at all.

However when then newest thing is saying "if you have had a first rounder in the last 3 years you should be worried" and current players could be involved that is worth keeping an eye on.

If Kyle Alexander is what we are worried about I’m good.

The opposite of amateurism is a free market to accept payment. If the kid was offered money for an endorsement, he could take it. How else would he get paid in college? He would take the highest bidder and go with the school where he would get paid the most (which is a free market). I don't understand your example because of course, he would take the $100,000 if it was higher than his other offers.

10th pick second Rd

Maybe the quote about being very worried about having a first rounder wasn't being literal because that is very close

Ok so Jrich was involved with an agent let’s say.

What is the worst case scenario for us? We have to vacate all 14 of Tyndall’s wins?

Hoops corruption case docs list players involved, payment amounts

Has this been discussed? Forde dropping names.

While three criminal cases tied to the investigation may take years to play out, the documents viewed by Yahoo revealed the extent of the potential NCAA ramifications from the case. The documents show an underground recruiting operation that could create NCAA rules issues – both current and retroactive – for at least 20 Division I basketball programs and more than 25 players.

The documents tie some of the biggest names and programs in the sport to activity that appears to violate the NCAA’s amateurism rules. This could end up casting a pall over the NCAA tournament because of eligibility issues. (NCAA officials declined a request for comment.) There’s potential impermissible benefits and preferential treatment for players and families of players at Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, USC, Alabama and a host of other schools. The documents link some of the sport’s biggest current stars – Michigan State’s Miles Bridges, Alabama’s Collin Sexton and Duke’s Wendell Carter – to specific potential extra benefits for either the athletes or their family members. The amounts tied to players in the case range from basic meals to tens of thousands of dollar

I don't think it has but man you gotta think that some of these lesser programs like Auburn and Mississippi State and places like that got to be thinking they're getting ready to get rocked

Yeah if I’m at a school that’s not part of the blue blood club I’m getting some KY jelly.
