Anthony Grant - Alabama

Lawrence Frank took over the nets that Byron Scott built from crap to two time NBA finalists. Scott was leading his division, but he was not doing well enough for the leadership and they let him go.

Frank had a few good seasons with the core Scott created where they did not go as far as they had under Scott.

Then Frank supervised their demolition into one of the worst teams in basketball.

But he is friends with Hatvol. That should be good for at least 10 wins right?

Great point, Frank had autonomy over all personnel move just as Scott did... glad to see you still don't have a clue.

Before MHF goes on some unintelligible rant about how Scott didn't recruit the players in Cleveland, he should probably realize that Frank didn't have a part of how the team was built up in New Jersey.

I didn't know Lawrence Frank was the GM of the Nets.

Oh, that's right. He wasn't.

And speaking of Byron Scott, he's doing real well in Cleveland right now, isn't he?

Lawrence Frank took over the Nets and added Vince Carter. (when Carter was still pretty good) He didn't do nearly as good as Bryon Scott and had the same group of players as did Scott with the addition of Carter.

And what the hell does Bryon Scott's record in Cleveland have to do with anything?

Perhaps, Frank would make a fine college coach. But, it is undeniable that the Nets gradually got worse while he was coach. Didn't they get rid of Scott because the players thought he was too demanding? Frank was seen as more of a player's coach?

Amazing how a team tends to get worse the older they get and the worse the personnel becomes.

Frank is an angry little man who would fail in Knoxville. Anyone who thinks Scott did not play a major role in bringing in all the talent that got to the NBA finals in New Jersey is an absolute idiot who should stop talking about basketball immediately.

The changed tune I have is towards Anthony Grant. His best talent played like they freshmen they were as they collapsed early in the year, but I know he can recruit in the SEC and I would not be mad to see him come here.

The posts about us not getting a great hire and us getting one have been fun to read. We have the resources that we should expect a great hire. If we fail to get one, and/or if we get major sanctions in June, I will be a fan of a man who is doing something other than working in the UTAD.

People keep mentioning the 0-16 start in '09 as a reason we shouldn't hire him. Well, Byron Scott is currently presiding over one of the worst teams in recent NBA history.

My point is that most NBA coaches, Frank and Scott included, have very little say in how their teams actually acquire talent. Therefore, to hold Frank's terrible start in his last year in New Jersey against him isn't looking at the whole picture.

I know I'll take some heat for this, but I like Mike Hamilton and hope he sticks around. Yes, he made a mistake with his comments before the NCAA tournament. But I think he has made good financial decisions and good coaching hires, for the most part. If the Southern Cal coaching job had not opened up and if Bruce Pearl had not lied to the NCAA, Hamilton would look a lot better right now. He can't be helped for not seeing the future. Kiffin looks terrible in hindsight, but he was doing a great recruiting job and had the program moving in a good direction on the field as well. I think most of us agree that Dooley is looking like a better hire than many people thought at first. Again, I think Hamilton is taking a lot of heat for things that are the fault of others, things that were impossible for Hamilton to foresee.

This place was a lot better when you weren't part of it.

Don't want Frank or, for that matter, Scott as UT's coach.

I think MHF is advocating that the Vols hire Byron Scott.

I'll cast my vote for Anthony Grant. I would be very happy with the hire. I think the players would love him. I could also go for Mooney or Smart. I like the young guns.

Just so everyone is clear, MHF is the same guy who had Travis Ford on his "possible replacements" list that he made months back.

You do realize that had Kiff stayed hammy would probably be looking for a FB and BB coach at the same time. I don't blame MH but SC did us a favor.

Basilio's specialty is throwing around names during a coaching search and then claiming to have said it first.

According to Basillio, we've got Phil Jackson on a plane right now, coming to Knoxville to ink the deal.

/sarcasm for those gullible enough to believe that...

Also, no one said Scott didn't play a role in getting the players to New Jersey. However, to act as if the front office gave Frank near the support that they gave Scott is ludicrous.

But they had Jason Kidd, Hubert Davis and Kenyon Martin on their team then. Now all they have is Deron Williams, and when they sucked they only had Devin Harris.

Kenyon wasn't there after 03-04 season

every bad ceo and company president in the world could use the 'i cannot see the future' excuse.

This is too simplistic. Bad CEO's often make unethical decisions that eventually blow up in their faces. What they couldn't see in the future was getting caught. Hamilton has done nothing unethical that anyone knows of (and I doubt there is anything unethical that he's hiding). It is Kiffin and Pearl who have been unethical. Firing Hamilton would be like firing the CEO for the unethical decisions of his employees.
