Any chance Tayven Jackson beats out Milton next spring?

Things like this get worked out during practice, or should be resolved. Best man in practice wins out until proven they can't perform in game time. It's why you have coaches running the show instead of fans at the corner bar.
As long as all are given an opportunity to prove it in practice. That's part of what I wonder. Will there be a QB competition where Jackson (and the other QBs) get an opportunity to overtake Milton.

Chilllll it’s messy as hell and raining. I’m sure the ball isn’t the easiest thing to hold. Milton is going to get his work this off season. Huepel is going to work on him.
This is the only answer. I was hoping we'd get a chance to see what Milton is all about, but last night wasn't it.

As for the people who say Milton can't improve after so many years, it's almost like you guys didn't just witness Hooker go from losing his job at VA Tech to a legit Heisman contender.

And he had a sure TD hit Keyton in the hands and he dropped it. You can nitpick both ways. We beat a team coming off wins over Florida and Kentucky 56-0 with their bowl season on the line. Get over the nitpicking and enjoy the 10 wins and the team we have.
Love this team. We disagree on Milton, it happens..

Get over youself...

How has the weather affected his throws? Wet ball and he's still throwing 100 mph fastballs.. The ball obviously doesn't appear to be slipping around in his hand...
C'mon dude. Are you seriously claiming a wet ball doesn't impact throws?

Without being privy to a lot of inside information, and knowing what the staff is thinking about Jackson and Milton (and Iamaleava), how the heck could anyone answer that question? Like, honestly. Who could answer that? Unless they're a telepath or they're actually on UT's football staff, I don't think anyone can tell you anything. They can just guess. So why not guess yourself? I mean, why not? It's practically the same thing.
Because this is a Vol football forum and it's what we do. I agree with you in that it's pretty silly because no one really knows how it will shake out. But, it's why we all waste so much time with this nonsense.

IF they can teach Milton to read defenses and put enough air under the ball to complete 70% of his 60+ passes he'll be a phenom. That's my HOPE.

I think Joe Milton will be a good quarterback in 2023 and getting all the attention the #1 quarterback gets will help him a lot. I stand by my prediction that Tennessee will win 9-10 games in 2023.

What was the final stats on Milton last night ? I don't think he had the bad night some seems to be saying here. I mean on the 3rd play of the game he throws a bomb down to the goal line. Was he perfect? No, but he's got a long time to get his accuracy down before next fall. I'd rather go into next season with him and some game time experience than a freshman right out of high school.

Probaly gonna get fanned for this but nico in a lot of ways reminds me of Joe in the sense he has a cannon but is fairly inaccurate on deep balls, against lesser California high school comp, obviously could get much better with our coaches

It’s not like he’s a raw freshman that needs to get coached up. He’s an old college student that’s been coached up by quality coaches for four years. Nothing has changed with the performances. At some point it’s just validating the definition of insanity. If he didn’t have a cannon attached to his right shoulder he’d probably be out of football.

Said the same thing myself, I think people just believe Heupel can work miracles on him because of how well Hendon has done but Hendon had all the tools when he got here, he just needed to learn the plays.

He has no problem reading defenses. He makes the correct read probably 90+% of the time. Even last year, he made the right read the vast majority of the time. It was his accuracy on the deep ball that was the issue. He still has some of the issues, but he played well last night in his first start in over a year, in the rain no less. Played far better than either Anthony Richardson or Will Levis did, and both of them have been projected in the first round in 2023.

Did you just see the miss to Fant? No way is he leading to 9-10 wins.

Correct, No Way Milton leads TN to 9-10 wins. Anybody who thinks otherwise is not watching. He was 11/21 with 1 TD last night against arguably the worst team in the sec. We’ll see how Milton does in the bowl game but it’s obvious he’s not even close to Hooker’s passing abilities.

With Hooker we were still a play away from losing to Pitt, FL & Bama. Very few QBs could make the clutch throws he made against Bama to get in position for the game winning FG.

I posted this in the game thread, but that's probably not the right spot for this question. Milton doesn't look any better than last year in this Candy game,. I don't see us doing very well against decent or better teams next year without improvement from Milton or a different QB1. It just doesn't seem like Milton is going to change. Love the talent and the personality, but I just don't think he's a QB in actual game situations.

Any chance Traven Jackson can win out the QB1 spot next spring and give Nico a year or two to get some size on him. Jackson was a 4 star recruit, correct? Is he good enough to compete with Milton in the spring? Will Heupel give him a fair opportunity?
Nico maybe. Jackson will transfer

I hope Iamalava comes in and wins the job if we are only going to be competing 50% of passes. Seems both QBs struggled last night. Could have been the rain. We will find out during our bowl.

I don’t see how you can discredit Milton after playing in that weather yesterday. Was he great? No but he wasn’t terrible. Milton is the starter

In the wind and rain last night I think Milton performed better than Hooker would have. There was a lot going on (weather, down 2 starting WRs, down 3 starting OL at times). I thought in spite of all that, he ran the offense at a very high level, made no mistakes, and made some good plays.

Nico should not even play, much less start, unless a catastrophic situation arises.
Milton should be the starter.
Hopefully Jackson pushes him like hell for it though.
