Any Vitello Update?

My mom and dad actually woke me up Christmas Eve playing my pong game that night. I was today years old when I realized Santa wasn’t real….
I think me and my older brother played it from 9 pm Christmas Eve until 5 am Christmas morning one time back in the Jimmy Streater (RIP) era

I'm not worried at all about Tony being our coach anymore since that's obviously settled. I really want to see the upgrade sticker price and some plans on how they intend to spend it. I also hope that Frank Anderson gets a sizable raise. That guy appears to make the most of our pitching talent and Tony has mentioned in several interviews that he's learning from Frank and leans on him. I hope they announce in the next day or two.

I'm fine with TV taking all the time he needs to negotiate the best deal for the future of the program.

I don’t really know who or what to believe at this point, all I know is that if this slow down is actually because of stadium money, I’m hoping it’s not because White is being cheap. If Vitello is asking for an obscene amount of renovations money, so be it. But I hope DW is being fair throughout all this considering what TV has done for the program in such a short time.

I'm guessing that it's a time consuming task to articulate - as part of an employment contract - what hard improvements must be built to satisfy that contract. They don't have what are called "Bid Documents," which are the final design documents for the improvements - that is, the drawings and specifications of exactly what is to be build and on what schedule. If we had the bid docs, the employment contract would just refer to them and that would be that. But without them, both sides have to be careful to describe the improvements in some other manner or other. I'd bet the details of that task can get gnarly. For example, DW wants to give DTV what he wants WITHIN REASON, and must hold the promises to that. So, how does one define, in a legal document - "within reason?" Etc, etc.

From yesterday morning’s Swain Event (From 1:40:17-1:55:23):

Of note: Towards the very end of Ben and Swain's discussion, it appears that Swain received more insight claiming that "The deal is all but done. Tony's been recruiting, Tony obviously wants more money for his staff...There's not been a detailed plan on how it's going to happen with the staff... the stadium enhancements are a big deal of that as well, but the deal is about but done. "

My main takeaway is that a deal will be eventually finalized, but there are nuances in this negotiation that need to be navigated.

When all is said and done, I hope Coach V's loyalty and trust in UT is still intact (Looking at you, Danny White: Time to solidify your public proclamations), because if it isn't, this may come back to bite us next offseason or in the future.

I'm going to take the positive view as long as there are no negotiations in public, i.e. - no leaks or pronouncements via rumor by one side or both to try to put public pressure on the other side. If the two sides start bickering in public, I'll take that to mean that they are way far apart, a bad sign. But as long as it's as quiet as it is now coming from their camps, I'll take that as a sign they are making progress.

I'll take the positive view along with you, @youcancallmeAl. All in all, it seems like both sides are working towards a finalizing a deal and are concentrating on ironing out specifics as much as possible. As several have already brought up here, things take more time when it comes to stadium renovations, permits, hoops to jump through with local / state government bureaucratic stuff, timetable for renovations, etc. Both Ben and Brent Hubbs talked about this in today's Volquest mailbag podcast (From 30:10-34.10):

A new deal and extension will get done, it's only a matter of when. I think there's heightened awareness overall because of the recent head coaching job openings and such, and folks expected a deal to get done quicker than it has.

Thanks so much for posting, _gal. Kinda confirms what I've been thinking. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

CTV doesn’t strike me as guy who would pickup his toys and go elsewhere if he doesn’t get exactly what he wants. He strikes me as the type of person that will go out and let the play on the field and fan pressure force the improvements he wants. Play championship caliber baseball and the rest will follow.

Isn’t it the most Tennessee thing ever. Think Pruitt.

But this time it actually works!!! We hire an up and comer, a guy who has never been a head coach, close to the worst facility in the league, pay him middle of the pack, and he gets to Omaha in year four without having year three due to COVID.

Every big time school looking for a coach found one, signed him and are nearly finished hiring assistants and here we are…half way thru summer ball, and this thread is still a thing.

Beats all I’ve ever seen.

GBO!!!
