Any Vitello Update?

Isn’t it the most Tennessee thing ever. Think Pruitt.

But this time it actually works!!! We hire an up and comer, a guy who has never been a head coach, close to the worst facility in the league, pay him middle of the pack, and he gets to Omaha in year four without having year three due to COVID.

Every big time school looking for a coach found one, signed him and are nearly finished hiring assistants and here we are…half way thru summer ball, and this thread is still a thing.

Beats all I’ve ever seen.

GBO!!!

At least we are not either currently Kentucky or Mizzou. Kentucky fans are wondering why Barnhart gave Coach Mingione an extension before the season ended and want him fired anyway, and Mizzou is still in the cellar. Its AD doesn’t seem to give a flip about baseball.

4-5 years ago, we were right there with both. Precisely what I’m getting at, this is the biggest no brainer in Tennessee sports history besides hiring Majors.

True but he's still here. Maybe the curse has been broken, I don't believe for a second that A&M and LSU didn't approach him.

You and I both know, if this was football? Look at basketball, Barnes got his.

C’mon Danny.

What gives me hope was seeing Chancellor Plowman at the games. She looked like she was genuinely enjoying herself.

I also think Danny was a little surprised at how this fan base responded to a baseball team that is competitive. I think he knows he's gonna get hung if he screws this up.

This one time, just this once…I am putting faith into Sexton, if anybody can squeeze the juice out of the Big Orange, he’s proved he can, and over, and over and over!

I get where you’re coming from. To a certain extent, we are still trying to pull ourselves out from under the years of neglect our baseball program was shown from previous ADs. Coach V has done an incredible job resurrecting it in four years. Now he needs to be given the resources and concrete commitment to sustain and grow the program. The fact that he’s had 3 different ADs during the time that he’s been here says a lot…

It goes without saying that we’ve been through the ringer for 16 years or so. I hope that we will eventually (sooner rather than later) have stability for our entire athletics department.

And the first step towards stability is rewarding those coaches on campus who have proven their worth. I realize, with baseball, it’s more complicated due to facilities.

It will get done, I have faith.

A huge portion of stadium and facility upgrades have already been raised.

More or less, yes.
Interesting, so money for coaches has been agreed on.
Money for facility upgrades has been agreed on. Yet the hold up is trying to decide how the facility money is utilized?
Sounds legit.......

So we still don’t have any news regarding Vitello’s contract? I don’t understand the lack of transparency from this new administration? If the money is there, then announce a freaking deal and lock this guy up! Let the recruits know, let the potential transfers know and most importantly, let the fans know that our guy is on board for the long term. On the flip side, if nothing has been finalized by this point, I seriously worry about the university’s commitment to baseball! IMO, you have a guy that is a star in the making and as quickly and boldly as you can, you announce to the rest of the college baseball world that he is YOURS and you make a statement that Tennessee baseball isn’t playing second fiddle anymore. I can’t help but wonder if AD White wasn’t secretly hoping another team would come along, offer Vitello a job and take the whole situation out of his hands?

Ok, so maybe the last part of my post is a little far fetched, but I can’t help it. Over the last year or so, I’ve really become infatuated with conspiracy theories.🤷‍♂️

I would say not so much HOW as much as working out the final details. Things get complicated, unfortunately.

If a deal hasn't been finalized by this point, I seriously worry about Tony Vitello's commitment to Tennessee.
