Cops should not touch a citizen unless needed. A kid mouthing off after a huge win like that at a college sporting event is not cause to shove a kid to the ground. I hold cops to higher standards than the average citizen.

that is true...however if the officer gave a command and the student refused then he should have been put on the ground and cuffed that is called resisting. fact is none of us know what the circumstances were behind the incident. many people need a lesson in learning the respect for authority.

Unless a gun was drawn or life threatening, no way. I can speak from experience watching 18 year olds in lock up, 5-1,15-1, ratios sometimes, so no, you have overly aggressive people violating peoples rights.Remember years ago when the cops shot a mental patient displaying a knife and instead of rushing her like they are taught to do in mental wards(with pillows, etc), they shot her dead.PITIFUL.

At what point are cops issued Pillows? :mf_surrender:

1. Jax- No worries, yes there are definate times that force is needed and I support the use in these times. And Yes, not all cops misuse their badge in this manor. Unfortunately for every time a cop doesn't when he shouldn't, there are 2 cops doing so when they shouldnt. And for every cop that won't, there's 2 who will.
2.Bubba? No way (all likelyhood) that kid did ANYTHING to warrant that.Short of him trying to run off(like literally running) or trying to attack the cop or someone else. If he wanted to continue the conversation or if the officer deemed it necc to arrest him for the possible remarks, then you walk the kid into the hallway. The fact that the cop did it in front of everyone is proof enough for me that his pride was hurt and he was set to make a point. Tossing objective law enforcement out the window at that point. "He's goin down hard and he's goin to JAIL, Little punk thinks he can mouth off to me?!?!"

I was right beside it in the student section. Like one kid tried to rush the court and kept going after being told to stop. (he was wasted) That seemed to set the police on the offensive. Another person was standing down there and the TV mic near the band was starting to fall, so he like put his hand on it to stop and I see him get laid the crap out by like 3 cops. What the cops did was totally uncalled for. That was not the only case either. I would be sueing if it happened to me.

Good guess, :hi:. My bad on the misunderstanding. I do get mad when people disrespect the "piggies paws", I liked that one. I do understand where people get mad at the piggise, some are buttholes, I have a few here. I show everyone I deal with respect until they deserve otherwise. One thing I learned on this job is theres 3 sides to a story, thiers, yours, and the truth. If the cop is wrong then he should get in trouble, but don't judge all from this.

I definately was not grouping all cops into a bunch. I was just commenting on what I saw after the game and it was bullsh1t! Had I been closer to Hamilton or other UT officials I would have expressed my disgust personally instead of by e-mail, which I will send this morning!! GO VOLS, don't get too excited over a win in the K or you might whipped like a rented mule!!! V,B

I don't know what happened, but what I saw did not warrant that much force. The cop shoved him into the student section knocking down the railing near the band. Then they brought him up by a choke hold and proceeded to tackle him again to where several cops got on top of him. All he could have done was say something to them.

Both people that got pulled out were excessively attacked.

I was down near it, and the one guy that got beaten around did nothing but throw an insult at the roided up looking cop that basically attacked him. The kid started trying to rush the court, but when he got near the bottom they stopped him and he went back into the section, yelled at a cop, and bam, they were on him. He wasn't even trying to escape and they had about 10 people on top of him.

Knoxville/UT police, baby.

At the UT/Georgia football game this past October, I was sitting in the lower part of section C, approximately row 7.

There was a drunk middle aged man who was harrassing two younger (25ish) men in the row in front of him. He kept trying to push the two guys down into their seats when EVERYONE was standing up. The two younger guys were being very polite to the drunk guy, trying to explain to him that they had to stand up in order to see since everyone else was standing.

Anyways, someone went and told the cops what was happening and the next thing I know, a cop (I don't know if it was KPD or UTPD) yelled at one of the two polite guys who hadn't done anything, "Hey you, come here." The fan asked, "Why?" and the cop went into the row in a quick manner and the fan asked him again why. The cop told him, "YOU SHUT THE F*** UP!!!" and roughhoused the guy, put his arms behind his back, and handcuffed him as he was on the floor in someone's spilled drink and other trash. They hauled him off even though we were all telling the cop, "He didn't DO anything! What are you doing?"

A few minutes later, they handcuffed the other decent fan and also the obnoxious drunk fan. Fifteen or twenty minutes later, all three fans returned to their seats.

I don't know what the point of it all was, but it was ridiculous for the police to be using foul language when women and children were in the section. It made no sense for him to handcuff (and basically assault) the fan who did nothing but be polite.

I wish I would've had a hidden camera and could've put it on YouTube. I'm thinking about ordering a camera hidden in an ink pen just for moments like these.

The cop who did the above was a white cop who wasn't on 'roids, so it sounds like there's more than one bad cop and perhaps the lack of professionalism is epidemic in police forces in Knoxville. We, the taxpayers, pay their salaries and all they do is act like the very thugs they're supposed to be keeping off the street.

The number of people who just assume they "deserved it" or dismiss it as being dumb to fight the police are part of the problem.

Unless someone was being threatened or hurt, there is no reason those guy should have been assaulted. I can't think of any circumstance where they should be beaten by officers of the law.

Cops have sticks and big guns---they do what they want and really like the opportunity to beat people every now and then for an adrenaline rush.

Really? they are held accountable, It's called law suits.

I'd rather be slapped with a lawsuit than go to jail. There are many cops out there arresting people for minor things that they do themselves. A lot of those things are just ignored even if they are caught. It basically takes video footage for a cop to be fired and usually it has to be severe.

I know a cop personally that has tested positive for cocaine multiple times and his worst punishment was being sent home for a week with no pay. What a horrible punishment... a weeks vacation.

If I had the option between jail or being sued... sue me. I'll gladly pay whatever amount. The difference is, I'd be paying out of my own pocket and it's still a better deal than jail. Odds are the cop will be on a paid leave of absence and the tax payers will foot the bill.

Ok, Sorry to hear that? I hope you never get sued.
