Anyone play guitar?

Point proven.

PS- have you tried the Orange bass stuff? God it's amazing.

I was referring to guitar.

I'll check it out. I've played the Orange guitar stuff.

Really wanting a vintage Ampeg.
I had a wonderful Eden head and cabinet but got rid of it when I quit gigging. Picked up a combo, but definately lacks the tone.

Still have my Warrior Bass, stock # 0019.

So this is my 'new' amp. It's a late 80's model so it's probably about the same age I am. Will probably upgrade the speaker and tubes at some point.

Learning some minor pen. scales but not sure how to make music from them.

That's a very forgiving scale for almost any blues and lot's of rock.

Put on a blues song, find the key and play virtually any note in the scale along with the song and it will sound right. You'll get the hang of which notes go with which part of the song progression.

Minor pentatonic is bullet proof.

Yep. See Dickey Betts for examples

I think of him as major pentatonic but it's the same pattern with a different starting point given the key.

The major works great with the standard country progression and minor works great with the standard blues progression. I find the minor a bit more forgiving but if you know one you know the other.

been playing as long as I have been breathing....if you need advice or lessons...mlodmkr@comcast.net...i will do what I can for you..everyone can play just don't let the frustration get ahold of you..but...if you choose to take lessons, tell the instructor you want to learn to play the guitar...not just learn how to play a song...learn the parts of the instrument and what they do,,learn to string it up,,learn everything about it...while you are doing this do exercises for dexterity and accuracy..the speed will come naturally....im here for you as is all the musicians on this site...good luck

rock and roll people,,born to sing the blues:rock:

While in the Politics thread a discussion of guitarists started up and I thought maybe it would be fun to see who e'rybody listens to. So I'll list a few categories and you can add your opinions and I'll adjust the list on this post as I get agreement or dissent. I do think we should not strive to find the 'best' or 'GOAT' because it is always so subjective. I'll add other categories too if ya'll can suggest any. Should be kind of fun.

Virtuoso: Al DiMeola/Paco DeLucia/Steve Morse/John McLaughlin/Eddie Van Halen/Steve Vai/Eric Johnson

All around awesome: David Gilmour/Eric Clapton/Jimi Hendrix/Joe Walsh

Most underrated: Terry Kath/Chet Atkins/Mark Knopfler/Frampton/Roy Clark/Glen Campbell/Prince/George Harrison

Most overrated:Jimmy Page :p

Agree on the first category

Agree on the second. Again Clapton is my favorite.

Add George Harrison on the third.

Page gets this rap quite a bit. I think Page is an amazing guitarist. But when I think about Zepplin I don’t think about amazing musicians. Don’t get me wrong they’re all good. But that’s it they all carry their weight. Page isn’t Zepplin. I think more about amazing lyrics/singing and compositions when I think of Zepplin.

Great list. Never see SM or EJ be mentioned. Gilmour had such great phrasing and bending. Never a Via fan though. Terry Kath and the musically trained Chicago are awesome. As an avowed metal guy, horns are great too.
Don't forget Randy Rhoads, my all time favorite. Lifeson too.

Been playing for over 30 years and got the Morse Southern Steel tab years ago, transcribed by the man himself. How great is that. Tackled it with a frenzy during the recession and came quite proficient at a lot of it, although very patchy. I remember learning the intro to Southern Steel, and thought no way as I have never been a finger/hybrid picker. Got pretty good, but gawd it is fast.

Have not picked up my guitar in 3 years now and not sure what I could even play now sadly. I was always brute force over efficiency and age gets the best of us.

After getting the non tab music for several Sabbath albums back in the 80's (one big thick book), I probably need to stick to the blues based stuff. Brings back memories of transcribing the music myself. Probably invented unorthodox scale fingering, lol.

I forgot about Dickey Betts on my list. He’s probably not on most peoples awesome list but he’s awesome to me. Allman Bros live in concert with Betts just playing and playing and playing... simply put, good stuff.

Gary Moore as a solo or as the lead guitar in BBM (Baker, Bruce, Moore). Baker, Bruce and Clapton were Cream. Also, Rory Gallagher and Roy Buchanan. All three guys were just really talented, but all died fairly young.

Viruoso: add Satriani and Michael Hedges

Tom Morello might need his own category for Innovation

All-around awesome: add Slash, Santana, Duane Allman, BB King, and Hetfield-Hammett (almost inseparable in my book)

Under the radar/out of left field: Nuno Bettencourt was a wizard

Early attempt to learn White Summer/ Black Mountain years ago as I was first dwelving into hybrid picking as a metal guy years ago. Recorded on my Martin with a strap on PU thru my Boss recorder. Partial and sloppy and wished I had recorded again as I became more proficient and learned some more verses a few weeks later. Should probably be finger picked not hybrid.

Edit: Can we not imbed a music file to a post?

never thought of EVH as virtuoso...still don't...would add Carlos Santana to virtuoso category

love me some Clapton....best concert I ever saw was Clapton on stage with Santana and Dave Mason

Agree with Bonamassa underrated

Dang son, I guess I need to hear you play! Not only was he extremely innovative, but EVH remains one of the most difficult to emulate (at least for me!)

heck the only way I can carry a tune is in a wheelbarrow...I guess I just never followed him that much
