Anyone play guitar?

I have been playing for a year and a half now. I think I stink, but my wife and friends say I'm good. They actually talked me into playing in front of people at my friends Music store grand opening. I have never played and sang in front of anyone before and especially on a dry run with an amp and mike. I don't want to be "that guy" who sux but thinks he sounds good. I think I'll stick to the campfire for now.

A song I like to play that is relatively easy and good for sing a longs is Black Water by The Doobie Brothers - has some nice sounding but easy chords.

I love that feeling of anxiety you get before going on to play. Like some kinda drug. Weird feeling.

It is very habit forming, and eventually begins to change from anxiety to exciting anticipation, but I believe there will always remain a twinge of nervousness. At least I hope it will remain, it is what makes entertaining fun.

when I get back from my deployment (less than two months away now!) I'm going to start taking piano lessons. I've always been fascinated by the lovely sounds of a piano. After I get that down, I want to learn guitar.

Anyone know a good electric piano/keyboard that has a good sound and is under say $300? I don't want to spend too much yet and I move around too much to buy an actual piano, which will definitely come one day.

Get a keytar, that way you can knock out both at once.

I would think there are plenty - particularly if you can do without 88 keys.

Also, I'd use eBay or Craigslist for this type purchase.

Here's a sample of 88 key e-pianos under 500 (I bet you could get them used for under 300)

Took 2 semesters of guitar lessons with Larry Vincent at UT (he also teaches at Pellissippi). Really cool guy. I learned a lot about jazz and a little I didn't already know about blues. He exposed me to the world of drop-2 voicings. All in all, these lessons took me to a whole new level, and I wasn't exactly a novice beforehand.

Awesome. I think we discussed Fender guitars earlier in this thread. Still rocking that one? Anything new?

We probably did. I didnt go back through it. I am still playing the same Fender. I am gonna stick with it until I get a little better.

Cool dude. They are what I prefer. Have you looked into getting tab books from a music store? You can usually find a ton of band's books and learn your favorite songs fairly easily. I was all over the Blink-182 books after I got the basics down haha.

Yeah I picked up a few. Some of the symbols I don't understand but play as much as I can

Just chat about anything guitar. I am a beginner, but there are guys that have been playing for years too.

I've been playing for 12 years. Still need to get around to learning how to read music. I've been winging it on tabs this whole time. I really want to start studying music theory and really dive into writing music.

been playing guitar for 10 years...but dobro is my speciality. look up Earl Scruggs Calgary Canada on you tube. I'm the only girl :) and you'll learn what a dobro is.
