If you don’t understand what the term “winning quarterback” means, I can’t help you. Our redshirt Freshman QB is now 6-1 as a starter (including last year’s bowl game). He’s completing 67% of his passes while getting accosted by defenders. He’s made some mistakes and missed some throws. He can play better. He will play better. Players grow and develop if they get the right coaching and a good team to support them. Sadly dumb fans rarely evolve.

I think in the near future they will be paid directly by universities and have collective bargaining. I personally believe it’s garbage but legally I don’t see a way around it. At that time it truly will be like the nfl. Maybe there will then be performance clauses, etc. Who knows. I hate it bc these kids are still learning daily but expectations follow cash. I know there are plenty of threads for me to go cry about NIL in, but in the next few years I see it really damaging what was once college football.

You will be alright. Even it takes professional players a minute to get accustomed to the pro game. How long did it take you to get acclimated in the NFL, or your chosen profession?

He was the amongst the 1st wave of NIL. We paid what is probably fair market price at the time. It's a crazy amount but not too far fetched. NIL contracts will only go up in time.

Let's not act like graduating from law school and passing the bar isn't pretty impressive. That being said, playing a sport at the next level is another couple of levels impressive. There are exponentially more attorneys than top level professional athletes

That's what we had to pay him to come here. We assumed the risk that he would not perform to every VN posters' specifications. To my knowledge we have never had 100% satisfaction here with any player. Maybe Al Wilson (on second thought I am sure someone was unhappy with him at some point). Definitely not Peyton. Though I doubt many today would own up to it, there were plenty of people at the time who preferred Branndon Stewart.

Agree with all of this. Obviously he needs to get better and I'm here rooting for him to do that. But I can see why Coach Heupel believes him. It's been fun to play in as many big games as we have under Heupel, and we are playing in so many big games because we have been winning!

There can be no "expectations" in my opinion. Everyone is different. If and when it happens, it happens. I don't think you can put a time frame on his development. UT fans might not like it, but they don't really have a choice.

There were plenty of fans begging for Stewart during the season. I remember that month before the bowl game when Stewart declared he was transferring to A&M. I remember Manning coming out and looking like a guy who was figuring it out in the bowl game, throwing to about 9 different receivers. You could tell that extra practice time paid off. Yes, Manning wasn't a redshirt, BECAUSE he was Peyton Manning. A guy in the most exclusive club of QBs

Not quite yet.
It’s not purely amateur either.

College athletes don’t have agents (I believe). And they don’t spend all day just on their craft.

The last thing he needs to think about is if he’s earning his money. He needs to become more familiar with his individual teammates skillset.

Why not back shoulder or jump ball to Bru?
- he needs to learn to audible.
- which means he needs to learn to study defensive tendencies.

it’s all between the ears right now with him.
I’ve seen him playing without thinking and he’s virtually unstoppable when he’s like that…

Heupel needs to hire an OC and bring in fresh ideas. He doesn’t strike me as control freak, but he needs some new blood in that room to challenge himself and grow this offense.

Nathan Leacock
Mike Matthews
Ethan Davis are all weapons that need to be schemed into the game plan.
