The Seibu Lions have posted SS Hiruyoki Nakajima.

Looks like he gets on base and has a little pop. I have no idea what his cost would be, but there is another option at SS for the Braves. I'm strongly against big contracts for Japanese players, but a 3/10 deal wouldn't be too bad and give Pastornicky more time to continue develop.

No way we got 3 years on any SS. pastornicky will probably be ready sometime this summer. Simmons will prob be ready by 3 years. Also, given the kawakami ordeal, I think frank may stay out of Asia all together.

Pastornicky is not the SS of the future. Simmons is.

Old news but as of a few days ago the Braves officially declined to offer arbitration to Alex Gonzalez.

I am sure another team is looking for an over-the-hill mlb player that cannot hit anything on the outer half of the plate to save his life.

Braves GM Wren On Dealing At Winter Meetings - Talking Chop

Trading Jonny Venters?

I kinda like it if we get the right deal. EOF is there to replace, plus you'll have Medlen and Vizcaino (when it's starting to become obvious the Braves view him a reliever IMO) for the 7th inning role.

What say you?
I say that I'd be fine with it. There are only so many innings to go around and an abundance of arms. Plus, I don't care what his nickname is, Venters' workload the past 2 years makes me nervous.

Luckily he was a starting pitcher in the majors, but not the same thing.

If him+JJ+Prado gets us an all star bat, I can't see how you say no.

If you can get an everyday bat in LF and/or SS with a little pop, then I am all for hearing out an offer for Venters, et al.. You score more runs, you won't have to use up a bullpen as the Braves did this past year.

I think it would have to be a PERFECT deal for the Braves to deal Venters. This season showed you need more than just three relievers throughout an entire season, and especially with Freddie "no SP goes past 7th inning" Gonzalez.

Wish we could trade Fredi. Wren's worst two worst moves are from caving to internal pressure: 1. Trading Yunel (although pastornicky could salvage but I doubt it) 2. Hiring Fredi.

#2. The jury is still out on Fredi.

#1. I haven't heard one single person tied to the Braves organization express any regret for dealing Escobar. I recall reading that Alex Gonzalez got a standing ovation upon his first visit to the clubhouse after being acquired.

I'm sure he got a standing O on the way out, too. .270 OBPs are hard to attain. You have to try to be that bad.

Considering what we'll see at SS this season (combined with last season ha), I don't know how you couldn't miss Escobar.

The jury isn't out on Fredi.. He's been a manager for what 4+ season now? It not like he recruits his own players in. Give him time to get his guys, etc. He horribly abused the best bullpen in the league. He hit mr .270 OBP second for a stretch. He leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, managers don't make a HUGE difference over the course of a season. Unfortunately we missed the playoffs by one game..

It's not like Escobar has been tearing it up in Toronto.

So, I have a question. Should the braves just trade Prado away and get a full-time bat in left field or should they get someone, like Seth Smith, to platoon with Prado in left?

I just don't know that they'll wind up with an offer that will be satisfactory in their eyes. IMO, it was all but certain that JJ would be dealt this winter (getting either a SS or LF in return), but now with Hudson having just had back surgery, they may not deal Jurrjens. I don't think Prado alone will bring back enough to justify trading him.

IF they could swing a deal involving Jurrjens, I think Boston could be a match. I like Jed Lowrie, he's a little weak defensively, but he's a good bat, albeit he's only showed that in flashes due to injury. I don't know a whole lot about Josh Reddick, so I don't know that Lowrie and Reddick for Jurrjens would be fair.

Edit: Lowrie can play every IF position, so he would have added value just from that standpoint.

To get Smith we'd have to trade Prado, so I'd say your question is a catch22

Would take a lot more than reddick and lowrie. It'd probably take Kalish instead of Reddick plus a prospect.
