We may think so, but nobody on the team or in the clubhouse was willing to come out and say that. Escobar was a prima donna, and they were relieved to be rid of him, potential be damned.

I agree he was a bad fit cause he wasn't a "good ol boy" like chipper and Bobby. Think he gets an unfair bad rap.

If he had been producing, they would have overlooked a lot of stuff. Gary Sheffield wasn't exactly a "good ol' boy" but he stayed and played well.

Agree. He was having a down year. Had he been on par with his career numbers I doubt the trade would have been made. However I feel like the whole attitude and clubhouse BS stuff affected his play. A little bit of immaturity on his part. Just don't think he deserves all the blame, and I think the braves are definitely in the postseason last year if he's on the roster. Also, we're searching for a SS and 2hole hitter. The perfect candidate for both is in Toronto.

I agree on both of those parts. Maybe they would have made the playoffs last year with Escobar. But it's also as likely that Escobar's stats would have continued the downward trend as long as he remained in Atlanta. I think both sides were ready for a split.

This is just me throwing something out there to see if it sticks, but why wouldn't the three teams involved consider this as at least a starting point.

Reds get Jurrjens

Rays get Yonder Alonso

Braves get B.J. Upton

Alonso needs a 1B/DH spot, Reds are looking for pitching (reportedly they like JJ), Rays need a 1B, Braves need/desire a RH OF. Maybe Braves could get a Paul Yanish/Sean Rodriguez type for their bench as well.

Reds are the leading candidate for JJ. Not sure what the trade would return to Atlanta. Both teams have the same needs, save a front line starter which JJ would be expected to be in Cincy.

That would leave us with no SS that is close to big league ready and would mean we are going to rely on Sappelt to be our everyday CF. I'd be shocked if they made that deal.

I knew it was sarcastic but it's actually not awful. I'm just a huge Stubbs guy because of the potential.

I'm not sure JJ is traded anytime soon or at least until CJ Wilson and Buherle sign. Then the Braves may be able to make a better deal with the teams that lost out on those 2.

I'm also very high on Stubbs. Don't know if he was losing traction in the organization based on K's, Heisey PT, moving down in the lineup, etc.

You don't honestly think that the Braves would consider acquiring a player that was largely responsible for the canning of their current manager in FLA do you?

I don't think there is a snowballs chance it happens.

There's "chemistry," and then there's "not being such a giant ass hole that everybody in the locker room detests you and it's causing a ton of dissension on the team." Sometimes a player just flat-out has to go. It's impossible for a fan just watching the games on TV to judge when that threshold has been crossed, but clearly Escobar did.

If I could swing any kind of a quality deal, I'd trade Venters right now for this exact reason. He's pitched in 164 games in the last two years. It would be pretty stunning if he doesn't come down with some arm trouble in the next year or so.
