Van Hagar was just as good as Van Roth.

Change my mind.

I think his mind wandered when he left UT, when he left Alabama, wandered the entire time he was at FAU (understandable), and is wandering as we speak at Ole Miss.

USC is not his alma mater (Fresno St is), however he did coach there early in his career under Pete Carroll.
When he left UT his mind was wondering on one single place. You are right, not his Alma Mater, but his dream school.

Was he supposed to be happy getting chewed out by Saban? Anyone would be looking around. Anyone would be looking to upgrade from FAU to a P5.

Even if you want to call it his mind wandering I am just not seeing it as a negative or something special to Kiffin.

I think his perception of the USC job at the time was a little rosier than reality because of his previous ties there. They were facing (and ended up receiving) pretty harsh NCAA penalties that really impacted the number of guys he could sign. He knew this when he took the USC job, but went anyway. Tennessee certainly was a rebuild when he took over, but USC was firmly headed in that direction as well. He's admitted himself that he should have stayed at Tennessee.

If he had more patience, and/or he didn't have the reputation he had, he could have parlayed the Alabama OC job into something better than FAU head coach, but he jumped at the first thing somebody offered him. In contrast, Sark was able to go directly from that same job to Texas HC.

He had to leave Alabama, Nicky wasn’t about to let him stick around after Lane screwed his daughter

Yes, excellent point. Sark was fired for having a serious drinking problem, and went from Alabama OC to Texas. Kiffin was just known for being Lane Kiffin, and he rode that same job to FAU. That says a lot about what the profession thinks of him.

I think it depends if Nick Saban retires after Alabama's Bowl Game. I think Lane Kiffin would be on Alabama's list of candidates in that situation.

Yup, sounds like a good thing to me. Lane going to Auburn would be good as well.
If Nick Saban retires at Alabama following their bowl game Lane will be on their list and i think that could get Auburn and the Yella Wood Man looking at candidates like Hugh Freeze,James Franklin,Mike Norvell,Dave Doeren or Dave Clawson.

Don't know how that got started but there is almost no chance that Saban retires this year.

Kiffin is a wanderer and those people are never happy
Agreed. Not just football. Look at Layla snd yet how many times Lane was seen out with coeds. Meanwhile 95% of population would have loved to come home to Layla yet he looked for something else. 😳

Kiffin was really the first guy to go through Saban's coaching rehab campaign as a coordinator. He wasnt going to draw the same attention as those who followed in his footsteps.

And I think Texas jumped too early at Sark. I think Sark is good enough to get to conference title games at the lower conferences, but not the smaller playoffs or the SEC CG.

I think the expanded playoffs are going to help a lot of coaches, who are currently considered mediocre, keep their job.

I could see James Franklin,Dave Clawson and Dave Doeren being candidates for the Auburn job also.

Yeah...thats more the level they should be at in their search.

Personally think it would be insane for Dabo to leave Clemson for anything other than the NFL.

Kiffin should have his pick of jobs with less stress than Auburn.

Other than the prestige of being in the SEC, not sure why Lanning or anyone would want to leave Oregon either.
