Aubrey Phillips Leaves Florida State

I heard John Brice from Volquest this week on the Sports Monster and he thinks we lose Phillips and Stokes. He also said we would land other players that would pick up the slack.

Not unless two of them are 4* OL's.

I have seen a few of your posts SJT and I totatlly agree with your concern on the O-line! We really have to get at least 2 BIG time guys this class so if we lose Phillips, we have to land either Marcus Hall, Pete White or Morgan Moses. And right now none of those are to likely which is very scary.

But in the end I do think we land one of those three.

He liked our chances with Marcus Hall which would take care of the Phillips loss. He also liked our chances with Myles, Teaugue, M. Brown and Alshon Jeffrey.

JC Shurbutt of ESPN Recruiting is saying that it's a virtual lock that Phillips signs with FSU on NSD.

Didn't want to copy/paste the whole thing, but he said its virtually a done deal.

This could be a very, very depressing NSD. We are hemmorraghing recruits.

Widespread panic (not the band) over the loss of phillips is hilarious. I think our Oline may be thin but some of our second tier guys will get coached up, book it.

agree, and I really think the strength and conditioning program will really help out the big boys.

Especially considering how nobody really seemed to care about him until he was bumped to a 4 star.

Good point. I was one of them. That extra 0.1 really makes the difference, right?

I guess it depends on your perspective. I understand why people are attracted to stars but the cutoff between a 4 and a 3 star doesn't take into account that a lot of the 3 stars might have as much talent but due to the number of total recruits they are listed lower. I can't remember what the exact cutoffs are but what is the difference between the No 35 4 star WR and the No 36 3 star WR? I've noticed that a lot of 3 star recruits are guys who have excelled in high school and made all-star teams or all state honors. They might lack some of the "sexy" measurables but know how to play the game and are hard workers.

I also think that talent levels of young kids playing football has reached a once unthinkable level. Where a 3 star recruit 20 years ago might not have been that great, a player with that star level today is usually a great athlete. It seems like 3 stars is a good standard for a D1 caliber recruit but it's nice to have the 4 and 5 star guys with the huge upside.

Like the DT that Coach O offered at Ole Miss, he was a 3*. After Coach O offered, Florida got in line and offered. The next day he was a 4*. It is all about perspective and exposure. Good Post gainesvol.

A simple headcount of "second tier guys" (ie. guys who won't be seniors) says you are dead wrong. It isn't just quality... it is warm bodies. If UT doesn't get at least two or three quality guys in this class then Freshmen will start on UT's OL in '10... book it. And it won't be pretty.

We understand you "like'em big" (recruits). Give it a rest.

NO! I know you'd rather plant your head firmly in the sand but there is serious trouble on the not so distant horizon if UT doesn't get OL's in this class.

Don't like the message, fine. But don't shoot the messenger because NO ONE has shown me where I'm wrong about this. UT has a developing problem at OL and DT that will keep them from being competitive any time in the near future and could easily cost CLK his job.

You guys are all giddy right now because Fulmer is gone and UT has its own GQ coach. I want the guy to win games... not look good and make people feel good by the way he speaks.

I just don't see the urgency with the OL. I realize they didn't play well last year, but it's not like there isn't depth at the line. Some would have you believe that the talent level isn't that great, but I disagree. We lost 2 starters from this past year and have several guys who can play both sides of the line. We'll be fine...book it.

i agree with govols. It would be nice to land a couple but it won't be the end of the world. We have loved the recruiting of the staff so far so let's give them some time with the players from last year and see if they can coach them.

So...have we officially lost Phillips?

At the very least it appears rexvol is sure we have

It's still too early to know for sure on Phillips but some say that his step dad is closely involved with his recruitment and is pushing him to schools other than UT. FSU, Arkanasas, and Auburn. Many have him pegged a FSU guy on NSD. I will believe it when I see it honestly. It certainly seems like we've lost him if you pay attention to those that follow this stuff, but Phillips has continually said he's committed to UT and I haven't heard him say anything about not being committed. Another one that is going to come down to signing day before we know anything definitive.

I agree we need linemen have we had any since A. Sears get drafted

It's harder to build a relationship with a line prospect. Coach Kiffin had a month to make relationships. It is easier to sway a skilled player than a lineman. Linemen are normally less drama and don't have the ego that a Wr would have. So he is just going to get as much talent he can get this year, and coach up the line then hit it hard next year on the recruiting trail.

Then Ut has a losing year. They fire Kiffin and relize the big mistake they made and rehire Fulmer! Right!
