Aubrey Phillips Leaves Florida State

SJT speaks the truth, this will be two years in a row where we don't add numbers much less obvious quality at OL and DT meanwhile FL, AL, GA have been stocking up on quality and numbers. The problem with both DT and OL is that there's a tremendous amount of of misses even with some 'can't miss' prospects so you need a lot of quality prospects to work with. This has been an issue for a few years now with Fulmer and CLK inherited this issue. This year was apparently too late to fix, but if we don't load up next year we're in big time trouble, even then, per SJT, there will be a lot of youth playing on both sides of the line so I don't see us as legitimate championship threat in 2010. 2011 will be the pivot year...we either have a breakout year with either a SEC championship and/or a BCS bowl/victory or the natives will be getting restless. Next year CLK will be given a bogie, 2010 will be expected major step forward even with youth on the lines, 2011 and beyond better be showing us as regular championship competitors or this experiment will be considered a bust.

We are thin on the OL and our QBs have not shown anything. Kiffins job is riding on it so i think we have to have faith that Lane, Monte and the other coaches know what they are doing. :good!:

I don't question whether CLK, Monte and company know what they're doing. The situation we're in regarding OL and DT started long before these guys arrived and I think it a simple matter of fact that it's a bit too late this year to fix the issue they inherited. I won't be screaming for their heads in 2010 if we are not in Atlanta for the SECCG as long as we're loaded with good young talent on the lines and the other areas of the program are on a definite upswing. Others here are just pointing out that 2010 may not be the year to expect a championship run so hang on it could be bumpy until this crew can fully undo the damage done to the program and fully implement their changes. With a little luck perhaps the TN will produce a quality class in the next year or so similar to the one that made up the foundation of the 1998 NC.

NO! I know you'd rather plant your head firmly in the sand but there is serious trouble on the not so distant horizon if UT doesn't get OL's in this class.

Don't like the message, fine. But don't shoot the messenger because NO ONE has shown me where I'm wrong about this. UT has a developing problem at OL and DT that will keep them from being competitive any time in the near future and could easily cost CLK his job.

You guys are all giddy right now because Fulmer is gone and UT has its own GQ coach. I want the guy to win games... not look good and make people feel good by the way he speaks.
So I guess you won't be watching any games in the next few years since you're just so certain of what's going to happen? I sure wouldn't watch if I knew for certain things were going to be bad.

After the Ucla game last year most knew it was going to be bad but we still watched

I do not understand what your problem is with this. A little like Chicken Little. The Sky is Falling type Attitude because we are not getting OL or DT.

I have not buried my head in the sand and do not think several others have either. You are saying its my way or the highway without justification we are all wrong.

In all seriousness, at the presence we do not have a stellar group of lineman but we do now have Standards set by the S&C coach and the Staff. Do not see anybody slipping through the cracks right now with the newness of experienced coaches that know what sacrifices it takes to play at the next level.

One thing for sure is that this staff knows how too get 110% production out of what they got. As long as everybody does their jobs we are not going to have the laziness, confusion and lack of effort on the line that we have witnessed the past 8+ years. Right now we will be doing more with less. Let the coaches earn their paychecks. I think they will. This is a staff composed of coaches that few college programs would turn down as a group or individually.

Call it Giddy but I call it needed change with a purpose. If all we had to do was recruit a team I would be worried, but we now have a total staff dedicated to player development and careers both on and off the field. Which means Total Package.

I guess we need to fire Kiffin and rehire Fulmer. :banghead2:

I agree with this in the Fulmer Era but cannot agree without a down being played in the Kiffin and Co era.

Poor speculation on yours and SJT part.

we can kiss phillips good bye a quote from his new rivals article... "im still commited but on nsd there will be a change

"I'm still committed to Tennessee, but on Signing Day there will be a change," said Phillips. "My Auburn visit went good. I got a chance to hang out with the players and meet the coaches and really liked it.

Wtf?

"60 percent of the time...it works all the time."

Yeah there coaching staff is doing as good a job or better than our staff. Trooper is just a great recruiter. The way is looks now, they could end up in the top 10 with us out of top ten. We will see how Oku, Phillips, and Jones end up. Of course, we could still get Lacy, M Brown, Hardy, Jackson, Myles, etc.

it seems like most of fulmer recruits are bailing last minute on us... i think we finish off the class losing some but replacing them and just stay where we r at

sounds like a good trade to me. :good!:

So I guess you won't be watching any games in the next few years since you're just so certain of what's going to happen? I sure wouldn't watch if I knew for certain things were going to be bad.

I'll be watching because I love the team and the sport. And I don't "know" with absolute certainty what will happen on NSD or for the next few years. I do KNOW that teams don't win without great line play on both sides of the ball... I also KNOW that UT DID NOT replace what it lost to graduation with last year's class and does not appear to be doing so this year. I KNOW that after the 4 guys who will finish this year are gone... there is a big void of real, SEC caliber talent.

Here's my "hope". That Phillips signs with UT along with Hall and/or another quality OL... or that UT hits 3 or 4 JUCO OL/DT homeruns next year. However anyone who has watched this for any period of time has seen 5* JUCO flops/disappointments repeatedly.

I'm holding this "hope" against historical probabilities.

Saban is ahead of schedule NOT because of his 08 #1 class but because he "salvaged" a #10 class in 07. In both classes, he landed good line prospects.

You guys can be excited all you want if UT signs a "great" class composed of skill players... but they won't win unless the OL/DL linemen come too.

NOOO. CLK and his staff provide more opportunity for the future... if they get to have a future. Clawson and his guys had 4 quality OL's lined up. They needed all 4. I didn't panic when Foster left. But Phillips is huge to this class and CLK's future.

I think it is slim pickings but UT can probably get by with missing DT's this year. They are at critical mass on OL's though.

You are saying its my way or the highway without justification we are all wrong.
No I'm not. If you can look at the roster and what seems to be the common prediction for this class then show me a reasonable way of looking at it as a positive... I would love to see it.

I don't like pessimism or feeling the way I do. But I see what's happening and cannot see a way this turns out well. Others think CLK will be allowed to have 3 or 4 off years before beginning to compete. I simply don't. I fear the coaching carousel and what it does to programs.

In all seriousness, at the presence we do not have a stellar group of lineman but we do now have Standards set by the S&C coach and the Staff.
That isn't the whole issue. If it were just that they weren't "stellar" then I'd say maybe they can be coached up and bridge the gap. UT after this year doesn't have enough warm bodies.

After this year, here are the players on the current roster who will be back barring something unforeseen: Sawtelle, Brimfield, Anderson, Pope, Bailey, and Thomas. Six guys... and how many of us think Pope or Anderson will ever be SEC caliber contributors?

One thing for sure is that this staff knows how too get 110% production out of what they got.
If these guys give 110%... they still won't be SEC effective without help.

SJT,

Kiffin and Co. will get what UTK needs and I trust their judgment to make it happen on a short time leash. I agree with you to a degree because of your assessment, but I feel you are still on the Outside looking Inside without knowing the total scope of the situation.

I "hope" you are right... even against the evidence I see.

From the new article on Rivals:

"Me and Isom hung out, went to a party and had some fun," said Phillips. "I also got talk to Coach Grimes and he told me how he was going to do things. It was cool. I really like his coaching style. They said I had a chance to come in and play right away. They said they don't have a legit tackle. They need one."

Phillips said he would have a final decision between Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee on Wednesday.
