Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

The NCAA probably already has enough to torch Auburn at this point. The allegations in and of themselves are bad and the church miraculously getting a huge donation is fishy. Add the two together though and it is enough to dig through every aspect of their athletics program. Dyer and Mosley's recruitment will be interesting. LOL.

I wish more people would give me props for breaking this story 2 weeks before anyone on here knew anything about it. Nobody believed me, especially VolDad...

Slive has known about this all along and has attempted to bury it so that Auburn could possibly rep the SEC in the NCAA Championship game. I am assuming this is for financial reasons. Is there a chance at repercussions for Slive(if this is true)?

I just discussed this with a friend on BamaOnline. He has been right about everything else... So I can't help but believe this to be true.

Sounds credible - afterall who knows more about cheating than the fine folks at BamaOnline.

Heard an interesting question today. Why did MSU keep recruiting Cam well after the alleged Cecil asking for cash meeting with MSU coaches?

Interesting comments from a guest on Finebaum who is some kind of agent. Says NCAA would tell Auburn to pull Cam if his amateur status were in question. Also, suggested Cam would have had to go through the "clearing house" after MSU made it's initial report and he was cleared to play by the NCAA.

Why did MSU keep recruiting Cam well after the alleged Cecil asking for cash meeting with MSU coaches?

Because Cam wanted to go to Mississippi State really bad and continued to tell Coach Mullen this. He wanted to play for Mullen so bad that he almost went to State and played for no money until his dad talked him out of it.

You are saying MSU continually recruited a guy they knew was being shopped around?

It's going to be interesting if Auburn wins out with the clouds swirling overhead.

Can/will the SEC act against the school if there is not yet an NCAA declaration of ineligibility?

Yeah. But State wasn't going to pay him no matter what. I don't see the big deal with this question.

I believe the NCAA came out today saying that solicitation of benefits (known to the institution) constitutes a violation. If true, continually recruiting such a player seems a violation of NCAA rules.

on the first, that is a big question. They have to be at least somewhat distracted.

on the second, no way the SEC moves when the NCAA hasn't

You said this.

... Auburn's Loyalty Foundation just happens to donate 150,000 dollars to Rev. Newton's church shortly after his son Cam signed with them?

I hear a lot of rumors but have yet to see this proven. Where is your proof?

State is out ahead of this by reporting it, but by no means are they off the hook. The booster speaking to either one of the Newtons is a violation all by itself.

Say a block buster smoking gun story came out in the next couple weeks directly linking a transfer of money to secure Newton's signing. You don't think the SEC would even consider invalidating Auburn's west championship and letting the second place team play in Atlanta?

I'm talking a doomsday scenario.

It is my understanding that once Cam solicited himself (if true) he became ineligible. Miss State was therefore continuing to pursue an ineligible player. How does that make sense? (unless they would keep the secret; in which case it makes them dirty)

Cam already gave a verbal, the 3rd party came in, then Cam and Father called to say MSU lost because of money basically hinting that it would take more than a scholarship.

MSU had the verbal until they called, I don't see how MSU would be in trouble. They reported it when it happened, I fail to see why they would have any more obligation.

Hypothetical situation here:

If somehow they came to a conclusion the week leading up to the SECCG that Newton was ineligible and AU had to forfeit all victories, then I assume the west #2 team goes to Atlanta.

However, what if it comes out between then and the bowl game? Seems like a complete nightmare if they have to forfeit then. #3 team then goes to the NCG, but that throws off every bowl game, doesn't it?

What would happen?

Sorry to say it but the best thing that can happen now is for AU to lose to UGA and Bama and have LSU rep the West in the SECCG. Second best thing that could happen is for AU to lose to one of those teams.

So you are saying that this is wrong?

I haven't seen any info that would put any blame on MSU at this point.

Now Auburn deserves what they are going to get, burying their head in the sand at this late date, I wouldn't even mind seeing the SMU option. Auburn is not cooperating from what I can tell.

When in doubt you sit the player, I do have a horse in this race but I can honestly say I would want them sit the player. It's just not worth it.
