Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Just to add to the discussion:

Auburn's Cam Newton is set to play, even after investigation delay, discussions with NCAA | al.com

Mississippi State said Wednesday it made the SEC aware of its concerns over the recruitment of Cam Newton in January, but did not act for six months on a request from the league office for more information.

Mississippi State responded to the SEC request in July, about the same time Auburn began to look at telephone records and other issues in its recruitment of Newton, whom it signed in December and has been a star quarterback this season.

The ESPN.com story cited "sources who recruit" for Mississippi State as the basis of its story. MSU coach Dan Mullen said Wednesday that only coaches recruit for the Bulldogs, which is consistent with NCAA rules.

The Associated Pres reported SEC spokesman Charles Bloom said there was no mention of the reported conversations in either of the school's reports to the league.

So it appears that in 2 reports to the SEC offices MSU never mentioned the "conversations" that are being alleged to have occured between Cecil and MSU then Cam and MSU.

Further, if the "voicemail" from the booster is true then Mullins is lying about who is involved in recruiting and MSU is in trouble.

Grist for the mill

Man, Kenny Rodgers really has let me down lately.First it was the crappy chicken joint, then the plastic surgery and now this.

"Nope, not scared...because from what everyone is saying, no money changing took place.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Rogers is actually telling the truth now (I know...big stretch). Here is what I think may have happened. Cecil tried to solicit money out of MSU through Rogers, but it was not successful, noone would pay. Cecil got pissed and said, you know what, screw you guys, he'll go to Auburn instead. Cecil probably never even tried to get any money out of Auburn.

I think all of this probably happened without Cam's knowledge...so basically Cecil looks like he is a bad dad...but Cam still plays.

OR...of course, Rogers could be a freaking liar...he has already on the record lying...if Cecil denies Roger's claims who are you going to believe? Cecil, or the guy who is on the record lying? It becomes a he said/she said...and dies there."

Only problem with that scenario is that it doesn't explain those miraculous church renovations.

So I'm guessing Bell is the mysterious booster who supposedly has the voicemails?

So Kenny heard Cecil tell MSU coaches about pay for play. Kenny called Bell and told him then Bell told Bond then Bond told MSU who knew all along since they were at the first meeting. MSU reported it but left out the part about the conversations?

Flowchart time.

Blurb from the latest ESPN story where Rodgers claims Cecil Newton was looking for $$$

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5792707

Kenny Rogers, the former Mississippi State player who ESPN.com reported allegedly sought money to sign Cam Newton to a national letter of intent with Mississippi State, said Thursday that Newton's father, Cecil, put a price tag on his son.

Rogers, in an interview with ESPN 103.3 in Dallas, was asked if Cecil Newton ever told him how much money it would take to get his son to play for Mississippi State. "Yes he did," Rogers said. Asked how much, he said: "Anywhere between $100,000 and $180,000."

Later in the interview, Rogers said he and Cecil Newton first talked after Cam Newton left Florida following the 2008 season. In the course of their conversations, he said Cecil Newton told him "it's not gonna be free this time."

Rogers said he only was involved with Cecil Newton in regards to Mississippi State.

Slive has known about this all along and has attempted to bury it so that Auburn could possibly rep the SEC in the NCAA Championship game. I am assuming this is for financial reasons. Is there a chance at repercussions for Slive(if this is true)?

I just discussed this with a friend on BamaOnline. He has been right about everything else... So I can't help but believe this to be true.

So you and some kid who cheers for a rival school of Auburn, have come up with a conspiracy theory?

Not much of a rumor.
