Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Auburn deserves everything they get for letting rouges like McGregor and Louder run the school.

Auburn needs to boot both of them immediately

post from "W&L" this morning....

Don’t know if true but supposedly ESPN is getting ready to blow the Cam story wide open this afternoon—Herbie Fowler and EA are in T-town for a Thursday night game against Ga St. Speculation is that they are going to run big story on 5:00 sportscenter and discuss during the Bama game. Indictments allegedly coming on Friday for several prominent AU boosters—wiretaps from gaming investigation may have caught conversations with AU coaching staff (including your favorite former UT asst. coach Trooper), boosters/AU Trustees (McGregor (gaming) and Lowder (Colonial Bank)) as well as Pat Dye. If true, first one to sing gets the get out of jail free card—some people are looking at major jail time for bribing public officials in their efforts to lobby for changes to Alabama’s gaming laws so I think the AU stuff is small but the tax evasion and money laundering might be what is getting the attention of the feds (Colonial Bank was one of the largest bank failures in recent history—like 3 billion big failure—so they are trying to see how $ flowing to AU and player’s families from Colonial may have been misappropriated and if $ continued to flow as alleged once TARP funds went to Colonial, some folks associated with AU—not just Bobby Lowder—may get to write war eagle across their orange jumpsuits. If I’m Cecil Newton, I sell all these rednecks down the river to save my a$$--ask the feds to wait until January before issuing any indictments; say thanks for the $200K; have Cam take his Heisman and go pro leaving AU holding a giant bag of $hit.

Problem is, at least in the SEC, everybody else us doing it too.

It will be very interesting to see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't start hearing some SWC conference references if this runs as deeply as it appears.

I was thinking about that earlier. How funny would it be if a former SWC school replace Auburn if they really are booted by the SEC? I'd imagine A&M and TCU have to be on the list of potential schools the SEC would call.

The SEC is the new SWC if all this is true.

Slive will truly be able to get up in front of the mic and ironically say "I feel as though I'm leaving this place better than I found it."

Slive was a founder in the first law firm specializing in defending universities against the NCAA and was later over their appeals committee, surely he knows his way around enough to leave himself an out. Even if it's not the "out" that he wanted.

I am kinda in the dark about the "SWC" references. I know that was the Old Southwest Conference but did it have similar happenings like the barn?

The SWC probably didn't invent cheating, but it perfected it and took it to the next level. All of that oil money in Texas had to go somewhere.

SMU was the biggest culprit and only school ever to get the death penalty. I will say, however, if even a portion of what I read about Auburn is true, its transgressions are atleast on par with, and perhaps exceed, what SMU did.

I've said for 5 years that if and when the dominoes start to fall for the sec that it would make the old swc look like a bunch of choir boys. I just didn't expect auburn to be first.

My only fear from this is how deep and how many schools get brought down when all is said and done.
