Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

I am not convinced that Bruce is getting a big time deal to be at Auburn.

Auburn is desperate enough to make a big time deal offer.

Pearl probably could not refuse the offer.

Auburn has been the Doormat for a long time in BB.

Auburn has money and more lenient controls on academic criteria to get entrance into the school.

There football team is back on track and I am sure Charles Barkley has the money to put into their coffer For BB.

Hmm, do I take bottom dweller Auburn - within a couple hours of Atlanta. I could beat up on probably 12 of the 14 coaches in that league pretty easy.

Or do I take the bottom dweller VT. Everybody recruits the DMV and I've got to worry about Cuse, UNC, Duke, UVA, Pitt, Lville....

Easy choice for me. I'm going Auburn and not looking back.

But if I am a top notch High School recruit do I want to play in the SEC where basketball is down and football is the number 1 sport.

Or do I want to play in the ACC against those powerhouse teams like DUKE,UNC,and Syracuse and those great Basketball venues that the ACC has to offer?

Trust me a Recruit would pick the ACC everytime.

Do you really even have a clue how hard it is to ever make an NBA roster? Especially, to play at least a whole season on one. Not many in this world do it nor out of all the guys who actually play college B ball.

Probrably as much as you do. I know it is a great accomplishment and he had to work is hind end off to get there. But nobody should act like he was a great college PG at all.

Pearl could have easily refused an offer. Auburn isn't the only school out there. They were just the first school. Plus, I think Bruce wants payback from Slive's slimy a$$ and he wants to stick it to Cheek. Notice he always talk highly of other coaches and players at UT, but never the administration. Bruce's off the court record isn't expunged. Regardless of who works for the NCAA and Auburn, that stuff is still there. It was a great hire for them and I don't see him leaving anytime soon. It just sucks because all of the STUDENT SUPPORT would have been back near 100% with him coming back and now support is only going to drop because Martin is likely to get an extension and has no experience next year. And if Stokes does come back, he is going to be shouldering the load every game and that is not good.

That's what Indiana thought when they hired Kelvin Sampson. No coach can be monitored around the clock.

Indiana did not have a former NCAA compliance investigator sitting in their AD either.

That's Indiana they don't know how to cheat and get away with it.

At Auburn, it is an everyday event but a good ole boy in the system does not hurt one bit.

Auburn is not Indiana. Auburn has the former NCAA compliance employee on staff. The NCAA employee that was intimately involved in the BP investigation and interview. This, in my opinion, mitigates Auburn's risk substantially. I would expect that he was actively involved in vetting the BP hire and his former connection as an NCAA compliance employee will help.

2.1 mil if true vs 800k is pretty hard to turn down. Tennessee would never have offered him 2.1 mil not even close. Would they? Plus they could get a lot better than Bruce for 2.1 and may have to do so down the road.

I do agree with everything else you state.

It is a great hire for Auburn and a good hire for Bruce.

They wouldn't offer coach K $2.1m.

Probably not. Fans would but 2.1 mil is more than Tennessee would pay but may have to if they are serious about basketball.

Plus Coach K is going Nowhere he makes 7.5 mil a year so that is really not realistic.

Louisville’s Rick Pitino at $4,973,343,
Kentucky Calipari 5,400,000
Kansas’ Bill Self ($4,960,763)
Tom Izzo at Michigan State ($3,745,769)
Florida Billy Donovan (3,689,200).

Posted it in the petition thread by accident, and it was locked before I could fix it....but:

I really hope Auburn appeals the remaining months on the show cause by using the investigator that now works at AU.

That's too perfect a joke to even put into words.

Be another huge crack in the NCAA.

The funny part is people question others fan-hood all the while they daily argue to keep UT in a state of mediocrity. First with Dooley and now with Conzo. Also using their same rationale, when conzo runs us in the ground and is fired they have to go pull for who ever hires him since they are more loyal to him then whats best for the program.

Would you appeal? Absoultely

That appeal will be sent in as soon as he signs the contract, if not already.
