Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

My point is that CBP lied....

If you want to call him a cheater because he committed secondary violations then that is fine however in doing so then every coach who committed secondary violations is also a "cheater" by that analysis and that includes the individuals I identified.

Mine would be that he screwed up and then lost any shred of ethics he had after that by trying to lie and asking others to do the same. At that point he forfeited his job by his actions more so on the back end than the front.

He did his time and is receiving another chance now. It's not here and completely understandable to me why. And it's not because of a BBQ gone wrong.

I'll pull for BP and Auburn against everybody but UT. It's entertainment. That's lost on too many that get too emotional about it in either direction. SEC basketball sucks and you know, as I know, we'll be watching it more next year. Unfortunately, we'll probably enjoy watching many teams across the country play rather than ours next year.
For the next 2-3 years. Hell. As long as CM is here, we will be hard to watch offensively when it counts.

Only if you're paying attention to the star rankings. What does that have to do with it? You really think CJ and Lofton were 3* and J Smith a 0*? Gimme a break.

What I think is irrelevant; both of the recruiting sites at the time agreed on those grades.

Again, you guys are using hindsight to grade these players... judging them after their careers were over.

How do you know the AU players won't do the same thing under Pearl, and excel despite their relatively mediocre grades?

You don't.

Hard to disagree with any of that.

All but the Auburn part maybe.

We've all lied and made mistakes and probably suffered consequences for it. So did he. That's two big mistakes he's made from an employment standpoint. Wonder if he'll go for the Hat Trick at Auburn?

I must have missed the first one.

Its hard to go back because you know what CJ, Lofton, and Smith did. CJ. Was getting better but I didnt see him as an NBA player before bruce. Lofton was a good shooter only before Bruce and Smith avg 1.2 point before Bruce. Who knows what he will be able to do at Auburn but nobodythought we would do that well first year. With that being said GBO and I hope the vols beat auburn down next year.

CJ Watson, Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith, serviceable Dane Bradshaw and Major Wingate. We will see how Bruce does with the talent in Auburn his first year. Dolt.

UT
CJ Watson 3*
Bradshaw 3*
Wingate 4*
Lofton 3*
J. Smith 0*

AU
Wade 3*
Harrell 4*
Shamsid-Deen 3*
Atewe 3*
Griciunas 3*

Doesn't look very different to me. Those UT players weren't considered that great when they were coming out of high school; you're grading them based on what they eventually became and did for UT.

I would also argue that the players they became was due in large part to Pearl himself. So, if he could take UT's 3* recruits and turn them into All-SEC players and/or eventual pros, there's no reason to think he can't do something similar with AU's players that were 3* prospects.

For those of us observing from the outside it'll be very interesting to see the direction the 2 programs take from this point on.

Feels like when you have an ex girlfriend that you still like and she starts dating someone else. I'm jealous of Auburn. Nothing against Zo, but if he was willing to go there he would have came back to Tennessee in a heartbeat.

Here's a nice factoid.

Dave Didion is the asst compliance director at auburn.

He was the lead investigator on the pearl matter while pearl was at tennessee

Please explain what makes Bruce Pearl a sleazeball. It's easy to say someone has no morals but can you back that statement up? He made a mistake and lied about it. Have you ever lied? Do you have morals? To keep running the he's a liar up the flag pole is ridiculous. Had the NCAA not made an example of him nobody would give two ****s that he lied to them.

Sleazeball: Somone who establishes a pattern of failing to live within the guidelines the NCAA establishes and lies to the NCAA when questioned about those guidelines he may have violated. Examples the BBQ and the illegal contact in school hallways. It also shows he wasn't very smart. Bye bye sleazeball.

Bye bye wins. Bye bye happiness. Bye bye exciting basketball. Bye bye energy.

Who was saying no one in the state of Alabama doesn't care about basketball?

He had 50 people show up at the airport, and while Auburn's admin has shown they care, the fans haven't yet. I'd argue there was probably still more fan buzz in Knoxville than Auburn.

Talk to me next year and we'll see how many stick with his team.

Mods and Freak: could you issue some sort of notice or warning the next time that you do a delayed Merge-o-Mania, so that I can have some adult beverages ready? :eek:hmy:

True, but that doesn't mean my statement is inaccurate. A deny, deny, deny approach would have had the same affect. Happens all the time. No he wasn't honest to begin with, but he eventually was, ultimately costing his job.

What makes your statement inaccurate is the fact that the NCAA had photo evidence that he was lying. He wasn't "more honest" than anyone; he came clean two months later when he had literally no other choice.

Sad--I miss Bruce, who was the best thing that ever happened to UT basketball before his stupid mistake.

5* Andre Patterson
4* CJ Watson

You left out the other PF Andre Patterson who was a 5* out of HS. Watson was a 4 * on Scout which is the better service for bball. Lofton was a freshman AA who led the SEC in threes. He was a top 150 player barely not a 4*. Bruce got lucky. AU will be nowhere near what UT was. You don't hit the lotto twice.

(DOTHAN) - According to reports Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs has signed new basketball coach Bruce Pearl to a six-year deal worth $2.2 million per year in the first year.

After the first year, according to Jacobs, the contract has a $100,000 escalator in each succeeding year -- meaning $2.3 million in his second season, $2.4 million in his third year, and so on.

""When you see the contract I signed, you can tell," Pearl said, "(Jacobs) raised the bar in men's basketball"

"We've made an investment in basketball, and he has to," Jacobs said.

If Auburn fires Pearl before the end of his contract, Pearl's buyout is half of his pay, so $1.1 million per year.

Pearl's salary represents a significant increase from what the Tigers were paying former coach Tony Barbee, who made $1.5 million per year.

And it's raise from the $1.9 million Pearl made at Tennessee.

For those who don't think CBP was a really good coach... mediocre coaches don't get 6-year $2.0MM+ deals after being fired for NCAA infractions.
