Auburn vs. Oregon - Official BCS National Championship Game Thread

Well, if you're going to haul the pedantic stuff out, then I'd certainly rather make a few obvious typos than screw up an its/it's misspelling. One is obvious carelessness; the other is a widespread illiteracy that's usually a pretty accurate indicator of someone who didn't quite get second-grade language arts. Even my seven-year-old nephew has figured that one out.

I don't really know how many other ways to say it; something that helps us a very small amount and helps our direct competitors more is a NET LOSS to us. Maybe it helps if we're going competing for a recruit with Penn State or Okahoma State, but how much more often do we go up against Florida and Alabama and LSU for recruits? How often do we lose those battles?

If the Ravens lose this weekend, I'll be sure to tell my Ravens fan buddy to keep his chin up because his division still has a good chance to win the Super Bowl. I'm sure he'll break out his AFC North shirts for the rest of the playoffs, because if the Steelers win, it'll just increase the prestige of the Ravens' division and make it that much easier to attract free agents. It'll help everybody in that division, clearly.

Agreed. and 100% correct. These vicarious SEC fans are growing at an alarming rate.

My sister-in-law, who is putatively a lifelong Tennessee fan, told me last year that she would hypothetically root against Tennessee in a game at the end of the year against another SEC team that had a great chance to win a national championship. She claims the reason for that is because a strong SEC is good for Tennessee. So she would root against Tennessee....to help the SEC....because it would somehow benefit Tennessee.

It sounds extreme, but I guess it really is the next logical step for these conference-hugging nimrods.

Wow that’s just ridiculous..believable but ridiculous.

All this means is that there is probably one more school in the SEC that kids will prefer over Tennessee.

She said she was "torn" about whom to cheer for in the 2007 SECCG because, while Tennessee had a chance to win an SEC championship, LSU had a chance to win a national championship and she felt like that was more important for the conference. This is a 40 year old woman who has been a Tennessee fan her whole life. Unbelievable.

The only real way the SEC domination could help us (or any SEC team for that matter) is this. You will probably never see an undefeated SEC team left out of the NC game again. Also if there is choice to be made between one loss teams. Hopefully we will be competing for SEC champs again sooner or later, so that could possibly affect us.

Amazing, or crazy? That is sad.

Just trying to prove california has the best athletes.

Clearly i am not one of them.

One would think since Cali has the best athletes and they all usually stay out west. the Pac 10 would have 6 NCs teams and not only 1.If they have the best athletes then something goes wrong when they get to college.

There are 1839 highschools in California. And no they don't usually stay out west.

That's the only even sort of rational way to make the argument, I think. But even then you've got on the one hand, the very tangible and immediate fact that UT is going up against Alabama, Florida, LSU, and now Auburn in recruiting for kids RIGHT NOW, as in the next few weeks, and on the other hand you've got the fairly remote possibility that sometime in the next decade Tennessee would be an undefeated SEC champion that would otherwise be at risk of missing the title game. I'll take the definite thing over the distant hypothetical.

And it's not just a question of our rivals beating us out for recruits. These championships mean it's more likely that elite prospects will come to Alabama/Florida/LSU/Auburn instead of FSU, Clemson, Miami, Texas, etc etc. These championships definitely mean more players for our rivals. There's a only tiny sliver of a chance that it will help us get into a BCS title game way down the road in the future.

Oregon went from 50 points a game to not even 20 tonight. And Auburn has an average SEC defense! LSU or Bama could have beat Oregon also.

Based on this, you obviously think Cal has one of the best defenses in the country.

Those dance scenes are sweet, though.

I cheer against UT all the time, so our opponents can get some good recruits.

Is this wrong?

It's been fun guys. We obviously suck, the SEC obviously rules.

Good banter on this site. I'll see you in the fall. :hi:

With all due respect to your sister-in-law
