Auburn vs. Oregon - Official BCS National Championship Game Thread

Do me a favor: the next time you go to a UT game and hear an "SEC" chant... please stand in front of the crowd and yell "Stop... SEC means nothing". See how that works out for you. But we all know that someone like yourself never actually goes to the games.

Soooooo. UT benefits by being able to take joy in the fact that a victorious team is chanting the name of a group that includes the Vols?

Apparently simple minds need simple answers. When did I ever say that having a large population didn't help?

I simply stated where i am from, which is a mile from the ocean, has produced a ****load of NFL talent.

You stated Cali had the best athletes, which is Simply not true

It is 100% true. Of course it helps we have a large population. Look at any sport from water polo to baseball to football.

Wrong. You don't have the best. Just the most, because you have the most people.

Just because India has a billion people doesn't mean Bollywood makes the best movies

Where have all the four- and five-start Tennessee signees that we should have started getting when the SEC began this run of championships five years ago? How come most of them have been going to the schools that actually won the championships? I don't understand, I thought it was supposed to help us too?

Auburn's recruiting is certainly an interesting choice to use to defend your point, considering the allegations still hanging over that program at the moment.

Well you are obviously drunk based on your typos. But in response... the reason the current 5-year streak of SEC champs hasn't helped us in recruiting... is because WE HAVE HAD 3 COACHING STAFFS IN 3 YEARS!! If Alabama can win the title last year, and it's biggest rival Auburn can win this year.. then we can't claim that an SEC rival winning the title hurts us.

It's as meaningless when we do it as it was when I sat out at the stands in Berkeley a couple of years ago and listened to the Cal fans chanting "Pac 10 football! Pac 10 football!"

(Which, since I "never actually go to the games," was a little confusing to me to be sitting in a stadium 3000 miles away watching UT play. Must haven taken a wrong turn somewhere.)

Fans of good teams brag about how good their teams are. Fans of shiatty teams brag about the conference they play in.

If it helps your direct competitor more than you, then it hurts you. Four of the six SEC schools that we routinely go against for top recruits now have recent-vintage national championships. All four of them have been helped a lot, and we have been helped a tiny smidgen. This is a net loss. Why is this so hard to understand?

Why should have any loyalty to the rest of the SEC? It's full of teams that I hate and we compete with. As far as I'm concerned, the only purpose of the SEC is to provide opponents for the glorification of the University of Tennessee. If they aren't orange and white, then fsck em. Seriously.

How many times do you hear Cowbodys and Eagles fans talk about how they've rooting for the Giants because they've gotta support their division? The whole idea is just ridiculous.

Auburn does not recruit Cam and Dyer if the SEC is not the best conference in football and coming off a couple of NC. The reason all the great players come to the SEC is for National Championships. And the record of the past coach does not matter in the SEC. Saban proved he could get a #1 class anytime. If Dooley can't get a top 5 class then its all on Dooley not because of another team.

Cam Newton also had three coaching staffs on three differernt teams in the last three years. And this is Dyer's first year.

Oregon went from 50 points a game to not even 20 tonight. And Auburn has an average SEC defense! LSU or Bama could have beat Oregon also.

Transitive property? LMAO you Haven't learned by now?

By the way, CAL held Oregon to 15 so that means Cal has a better defense that Auburn right?

Well, if you're going to haul the pedantic stuff out, then I'd certainly rather make a few obvious typos than screw up an its/it's misspelling. One is obvious carelessness; the other is a widespread illiteracy that's usually a pretty accurate indicator of someone who didn't quite get second-grade language arts. Even my seven-year-old nephew has figured that one out.

I don't really know how many other ways to say it; something that helps us a very small amount and helps our direct competitors more is a NET LOSS to us. Maybe it helps if we're going competing for a recruit with Penn State or Okahoma State, but how much more often do we go up against Florida and Alabama and LSU for recruits? How often do we lose those battles?

If the Ravens lose this weekend, I'll be sure to tell my Ravens fan buddy to keep his chin up because his division still has a good chance to win the Super Bowl. I'm sure he'll break out his AFC North shirts for the rest of the playoffs, because if the Steelers win, it'll just increase the prestige of the Ravens' division and make it that much easier to attract free agents. It'll help everybody in that division, clearly.

Usain Bolt isn't representing his country in track meets?(Not the Olympics or worlds, but various individual exhibitions)
