the grunting and the incessant fist pump are two of the more annoying things in the entire game of tennis. Does she have to pump her fist and watch peripherally for opponent reaction after even the simplest of putaways. Made me root harder for Ivanovic. That break means Ivanovic is pretty well cooked. Ah well. I liked Sharapova more before this tournament than I do after watching her in it.

guess you and I will have to stick to golf.I do the exact same thing. Actually, I grunt, I'd say Maria shrieks/yells. She definitely doesn't grunt. I'm also a fist-pump celebrator.
I think it's absolutely turning the screw. She knows full well that it's irritating as hell to her opponents. Can't argue with trying to get the mental edge, but it just annoys me.I don't really get that impression. Maria often turns her back to the net when she does it.
The times it's real excitement, I understand. The rest would make me seethe as an opponent.
I completely that the pros generally ignore it, but they're great partially because they're hyper-competitive. I'm sure many would like to shove that fist in her ear. While they're better at playing through it than someone like me, I bet that bit of distaste is there. That stuff never bothers me. As long as I'm not being taunted, I pretty much worry about why I couldn't prevent the celebration from happening. I'd say a pro like Ana isn't too concerned with a little fist shaking.
