Bad Beats, Monster laydowns...Poker discussion

Did you get to play cards with him?

No. It was during the WSOP the last 2 years. During the first couple days of the main event, there's a poker expo going on next door. Half stripper and strip clubs; the other half poker companies and the like. You can meet most all the tv personalities either at booths or walking around. Surprisingly, they were pretty much all friendly. Men the Master was great fun to talk to. Negraneau, as expected, is just as friendly and down to earth as he seems.

As much poker as I watch on tv, it was really cool meeting all these people. Most were away from their sponsorship obligations when I caught up with them and it was nothing for them to take a few minutes out to chat and take a picture. I could probably rattle off 20-30 names that I shook hands with or got a picture with. Tilly's thong was hanging out during one her signing (nice!). Saw her out at the pool one afternoon as well. She's a cutie.

Of all the poker personalities/successes, the only ones I really wouldn't care to meet that much are of course Jamie Gold (jerk) and Jarry Yang (weird). I think Gavin Smith ios probably a bit of a jerk, too. Everyone says Negreanu is really just a casual guy and outgoing and easy to chat with.

And you saw Tilly in a bikini at the pool? Now I have to kill you.

I offered to play Daniel heads up for any amount he wished. He looked at me for a second and said, "Really?" I said "Absolutely, but you'll have to play the same stakes at a game of Golden Tee." We talked about that for awhile. Had it not been during the WSOP, I bet we would have found a machine and rolled a few games. He's a big GT junkie and has an older machine in his house.

Then I'm guessing you would have been crushed on both accounts!!

You left out Moneymaker. That guy just seems like a tool. Oh, and Raymer too.

Yea, Jamie Gold is an idiot. It is fun to watch PAD and hear the other players talk s**t about him.

My buddy plays at Ultimate Bet and came in second in a tourney last night. Pulled in $2250. Not too bad.

Yeah, but can he collect it? I keep reading lots of complaints from online players that UB, FTP, and even Pokerstars are having all sorts of problems.

check out a site called pocketfives.com. Click on the "poker discussion" link, to the left. Its a running board. some interesting stuff and usually a thread or two about problems these guys are having getting their on-line dough.

Some sick people on there, too. Do nothing but play online poker all day.

I'll have to look into that at home.

The one thing I've gotten out of that site is that the kids playing online poker play a whole different style and have an entirely different thought process than do me and my live game friends, even at the casinos. They are quite intelligent and fearless.

I would trash him on GT any day of the week. No doubt there. Cards...I could certainly get lucky.

Pstars payouts were working fine as of about 4 months ago. A buddy and I cashed out $2,000 and had the check 8 days later no problems.

Buddy of mine is currently kicking some ass in the main event. 3 years ago he finished 47th (I believe) for $45K. His latest post was 20 minutes ago. Guy's name is Bryan Bevis. Was one of the top online players for awhile and has cashed in lots of WPT/WSOP/etc. events. Great fun following him when he's doing well. The 5 or 6 other friends in the main event have all busted now, I believe.

"Dinner break have 248000. tough table with a lot of chips. They are moving us to the secondary feature table after dinner." (http://twitter.com/bryanbevis)

I see he made the money. I think that is quite an accomplishment. Hope he has a good time oitherwise and doesn't blow it all at 100/200 NLHE at the Bellgaio.

I went to the Hard Rock in Tampa last nighht, played a little $1/$2 NLHE and had some drinks with my date, then played $2/$5 NLHE. Grew my initial $100 buy in to over $1,000 and left. Ended up netting $700 overall (after the stupid slot machines nailed me for a bit).

That would a successful evening in my book. But, it would also encourage me to go back sooner than I probably should. :)

Played a multitable $120 buy-in yesterday at Daytona dog track. 50 players. 5,000 in starting chips, 20 minute blinds.

We got down to the final eight and I had 80,000 in chips. One or two guys had 25,000-30,000, but most at that point in the lower 20,000 range. I proposed, and the others agreed, that we chop and I took $1,000, the seven others got $570 each.

Thing was, for the other players, $570 was more than 4th place was going to pay (they only paid top five) and they risked getting nothing if they continued. Sure I wasd a favorite to win it and get $2,000, but I still had to beat seven people to do it. Two tough pots and I could easily have finished third and made less.
