Bad Beats, Monster laydowns...Poker discussion

I played in a 65 person tourney SAT. and finished 8 out of 65 so I was feelin ok. I took the chip leader of the whole tourney for 8000.00, all I had. Tore him a new one. I flopped the straight and check he bet I called, turn I checked he bet I called, river he bet 2x what he was betting and I pushed and he called. He just stared at me:dance2:

What is the best online poker site?

You can't play online for $ from the U.S. right now, unless you are willing to jump through a bunch of convoluted hoops to do it. U.S. banks are barred from funding online poker accounts.

Besides which, I would think you like live play so much more. You can always go to Melbourne or Daytona -- why play online when you know nothing of the people or the site?

I just created an account on Ultimate Bet a week ago. Nothing convoluted except that you had to call them to activate the account.

Use the free poker part to play some hands.

I had no problems making a deposit on Pokerstars with my First Tennessee debit card a month ago. Took all of a minute to click deposit, enter my # and amount, and it was in my account.

I know some people have problems using their CCs/debit cards, but I've never had any problems. That was the only deposit I've done in the last year though. I figured I might have to use some neteller type place but it went through without a hitch.

Did a deposit on Bodog a year ago without any problems. I like their games and tend to do better over there. However, not nearly as many players or tournaments. Usually takes a few minutes to get a S&G started whereas Pstars is pretty much instant action.

Does anyone play on Full Tilt?

I have a good buddy having a hard time cashing out from there right now. Asking around some other players and it seems they aren't exactly liked by some people. Someone pointed us to this thread: Full Tilt Won't Pay Me - PocketFives

I'm not going to call foul on the site myself, but I'm not exactly dying to start playing there, either.

How'd you fund it?

Then your bank is way behind the curve. They aren't supposed to be letting you do that from a U.S. bank, as I understand it.

hair up my ass and girls at the bar:)

Finey, its also free poker! You aren't playing for money. Go smack down $120 to buy into a tournament and let's see you play 67 preflop for all your chips against two people who have already gone all in.

This free crap is ruining your game!

True I would not have but I know how to change gears when I play a tourney for money. Tell me when you go to Melbourne again I live 5 min. away.

Posssibly true, but I do believe First TN/ First Horizon is a rather large bank. And I know plenty of other banks allow it as well. The bill didn't actually do much to the poker world except shut down a few sites. I also think it applies more to credit cards than debit cards. Some intermediatary places like neteller were taken down, but for the most part, PartyPoker is the only halfway big site that quit serving US customers. And honestly, given the timing of everything that happened, I believe they were in on it for some reason. Maybe it's just a conspiracy theory/etc. but lots of people think Party was in on the bill and using it for some shady things.

Cashed 3rd last night. 3rd is like kissing your sister. . . .but I don't have one, so I really don't know what that means. I had a great early streak and then couldn't get a hand when the blinds got steep. I need to work on my strategy with the "big stack/middle blinds" scenario. I am sold that that's where you need to be able to rake.

That being said, a good night of poker with friends is tough to beat.

OK, Bad Beat Story (personal, unfortunately):

In position, 5-handed, 100-200 blinds. Gun calls, I have 8-8, raise to 600. Dealer folds. Small blind calls, big folds, gun calls.

Flop 7-4-2 rainbow. Check, check, I bet 900. Small raises 1000. Gun calls. I push all in. Small folds, gun calls and flips K-7s. Turn J. River 7.

And, to salt the wound, small shows that he had the other 7.

Ouchy.

I'm hoping to hit the bad beat jackpot one of these days on Ultimate Bet. Someone hit the other day and it was over $200k. The cool thing about it is, you don't even have to be playing at that table to get a little bit of the action, just playing at a table with the same structure. What a concept! A bad beat jackpot online. UB is awesome!

Ok another bad beat story.

I was steaming from a previous hand and the next hand I had picked up Aces, I had the button, I Raise it really big to look like I was steaming with nothing. guy in front calls and another one re-raises. It comes to me and I go all in. The guy in front of me folds and the other guy calls and has Ace 10 off suit. Flop comes J-8-10, the Turn a 5, and what do you know the river comes another 10.

I was so mad. I never make a stupid play and then turn out to help me on the river. Never... it was the first time I had picked up Aces as well.
