Baltimore Unrest

Well now wait... first tell me what Freddie Gray did wrong in this instance. The police haven't even been able to come up with a reason why they arrested him in the first place... so it is rather hard right now to put blame on Freddie Gray.

He ran when cops were near. As crazy as that sounds in Maryland thats enough suspicion for cops to pursue.

Who wants to bet that if he wouldn't have died his arrest would have been legal and he'd be in jail now trying to post bond?

It's just like the way they stop everyone who exits I 40 just before the advertised drug interdiction checkpoint. And they chase the people who try to pull a u - turn before a DUI checkpoint. People who are not breaking the law have no rational basis to fear the police.

Try to follow. My post was in response to Sam blaming me for big govt which you said created Freddie Grey. So I am the blame for Freddie Grey.

How about if a checkpoint is keeping me from getting to where I need to go and I know a back way?

What I dont understand is how all 6 officers were charged for what supposedly happened in the van. Were they all in the van? Were they all supposed to buckle him up? If not, who was?

Yep that trial will be a mess

Nonsense. Dead people would say otherwise. Their actions did not justify a killing, so breaking laws or not...there is plenty of reason to fear police.

That's enough to pursue pretty much anywhere in the US. Running from the police in a high crime area provides reasonable suspicion to stop him. In Florida, if that happens and the person defies commands to stop, that is an arrestable offense.

OK... taking a step back and looking at the events that have happened recently with police, would you say that cops chasing people is a reasonable response to seeing someone running?

Depends on the situation.....wouldn't u have chased him if u were a cop

2-3 months ago, I might have said yeah. But after thinking about it more, is it really worth it. Chances are, the person you are chasing has some drugs on them or a knife or maybe even a gun.

Not worth the chase.

I would hope that I wouldn't care about recent events and try to do with what I feel is the right thing no matter what.....just like them charging the cops.....I hope they are doing the right thing and the evidence shows that the cops are guilty.

None of the guys in recent events were rapists, murderers, or really all that violent outside of Freddie Grays charge of assault. Everybody else was arrested and ended up dying over busted taillights, child support, possession of drugs, possession of guns or knives, or "running". Since I'm libertarian, the drug possession arrests I think are bogus anyways and don't need to be enforced. Same is true of some of these gun laws. But in none of these events, were cops in the act of saving the community from a violent rapist/killer/molester/corporate bankster/thief.

As a cop that's not your choice though

Neither is illegally detaining someone so you can lecture them about a hand gesture but you fully supported that move.

Do you have an actual set of guidelines for when the rules do and don't apply or do you just wing it?

Individuals are responsible for their own actions, but they are not necessarily responsible for the environment that shapes their worldview.

Isn't that almost the same as you're responsible for the choices you make but not for the results of those choices. All because of the home environment the individual was raised in?

Then you don't open yourself up to growth and maturity. You have to learn from experiences.

There is plenty of blame to go around. The citizens need to be held accountable, but it has hard to do when the households that most of them are raised in lacks accountability and structure. Yet, they still should have a basic understanding of right and wrong. Murder, battery, rape, theft... those are all things that we can agree are wrong and it goes across all ethnic, religious, racial boundaries. These are universal crimes.

But some guy on the block with some weed or a guy driving with a busted taillight or a guy behind on child support or a guy selling loose cigarettes or a guy with a switchblade or a gun... I mean really? We are going to put the weight of the judicial system on these guys, yet let people like Lloyd Blankfein, Jamie Dimon, Henry Kissinger or Zbigniew Brzezinski walk free?

The cop had legit reasons to pull them over and I'm glad he did
