Baltimore Unrest

at least one witness saying the guy was just sitting there - had no weapon.

cops say he had a gun. there is a weapon on the scene that is not a service pistol

Hillary on her way to Baltimore,...will make a love thy brother speech in her best black voice..as she tries to bring peace to Baltimore.

What is your point other than to detract from mine? I didn't say the war on drugs started with Nancy. I didn't say Nancy held office. If I called it "your war on drugs" I would not be implying you held office, I would be implying you supported the cause and furthered it.

So what is this about the graph now? More time-wasting?

Expenditures jumped roughly 5 billion during both Regan's and Clinton's terms, yet you single out Nancy?

One of the things I learned living in "progressive" Chicago was that segregation is the order of the day. When people learned I was from the South they loved to tell me about how racist the South was. I tried to explain how much more integrated the South actually is but they wouldn't buy it. They didn't use the "n" word but they might as well have. One guy thought he was clever by calling black people "Canadians" so he could make comments about them in public without being racist...

Bottomline, hard to imagine more government is the solution when more government is a big reason we are where we are.

Agree. I'm slowly coming to terms with the level of segregation in the north. There is an evolution of sorts happening in the smaller cities (like York) where the impoverished neighborhoods are becoming more integrated. But, the affluent neighborhoods are still segregated and you don't see too many minorities even looking at the houses for sale. But, Federal policies, especially Title I that tie benefits to race are continuing to keep folks divided.

A few years ago we were working a big tank pull and the GCs project manager was from New York. He asked that we do some additional work, told him I didn't have the bodies, he said he'd give me some of his boomers to use.

What the hell are boomers, I asked. He whispered those black guys over there.

Hampsterdam was beginning to work as intended. The arrest free zone became a cesspool but the rest of Baltimore began to thrive. I don't know how true to life The Wire was though.

it was based on the oft-failed Freetown or whatever in Amsterdam. starts and ends the same way. starts with the good crowd of the actual people who believe in it, then come the people looking to exploit it, then comes in the people willing to use force and all the sudden Free Town needs cops to come in and save the citizens. it gets shut down for a while before being reopened. even the actual city still used services provided by the system they were trying to get rid of. Cops, health care, firemen, water, trash etc etc.

$5 billion was 300% of the budget when Reagan took over. It wasn't even 50% of the budget when Clinton took over. In case you can't tell by the slope, the rate of spending increase slowed down under Clinton.

The Clintons deserve blame for their part in expanding it, but it would have been politically unpopular to de-escalate, because the Reagans' anti-drugs campaign was so convincing. The Reagans made the war on drugs extremely popular. People bought into it, because of them.

I don't mean to single any administration out, but Reagan and Bush did the most damage and deserve more blame than any other POTUS.

Ive always heard the same thing being a northerner. Yet they secretly disparage non whites. AND they often have never been in any area that was diverse at all.

You're doing math like it's a family budget or a company's finances. This is government.

Basically, every government program sees increases in spending, under every POTUS. You would expect Clinton to increase the rate of spending, if the Ds were as bad as the Rs, but the rate slowed under him...

No. I am looking at it as cold hard cash. Who increases it the most and that isn't based off percentages its based off of cold hard cash.

Basic math tells us the increase from 1 to 3 is huge! Its 200% But the increase from 12 to 17 is only 40%. But which number is larger? The 200% or the 14%.

Pro Tip: Its not the 200% one.

Every Pres sees an increase in spending that is correct. But some see more than others..

edit-
I am all for smaller government and less spending. The fact is anyone promising that is usually FOS.

What if instead of pulling out, they just enforce laws against property crime and violence?

If that were the case, Gray would probably only have 1 assault charge on his record. How many UT athletes had an assault charge at some point? I don't get this attitude you have about Baltimore. The war on drugs has destroyed their community, so now they don't get any police protection? How about scaling back the war on drugs first, before we abandon Baltimore altogether?

What about adding that drug usage has helped destroy their community? It's not just the war on drugs....

I hear a lot of gums flapping and complaining going on but no one seems to really have a solution. We got people yelling about white privilege and how that (somehow) is the problem in Baltimore. We got people yelling about ending the war on drugs and disparate people will rise from the ashes like a phoenix. We got guilt ridden liberals challenging the notion that if you arent black or a person of disparity you have no right to comment on the goings on of said disparate peoples and if you do you must be a hate filled racist...

Why has no one talked about any solutions? Are the solutions just too anti-left wing and anti-PC? If us non-disparate peoples cannot provide common sense solutions what do the disparates have to offer up in regards of fixing their problems? Is the concept of hard work and responsibility code for vile racism and thus cannot even be brought up?

Oh liberals of VN bestow upon us your wealth of knowledge in regards to building safe and thriving communities where full employment is reached, home ownership is strong, crime is low, and the multiculturalism is without reproach.

So this is what I want to know. WTF happened to conservatism?

Something tells me nobody will take on these points. Please respond to these points:

The Grey case is a constitutional fiasco. A guy walking down the street approached by the authorities because—literally—he “looked at them?” He’s pursued, frisked, found in the legal possession of a weapon (a pocketknife) and is arrested? No crime? No theoretical charge of a crime?

Then he’s shackled, laid on the floor of a police van on his stomach—unsecured and in violation of police rules—and bounced around the city for hours, while being repeatedly denied requested medical treatment.

Our founders committed a truly revolutionary act when they wrote a Constitution that is a document of “No.” It tells agents of the government, “No, you can’t.” It doesn’t matter if the citizen is a pillar of the community or a punk. He’s still an American, so hands off!

Conservatives taught me that the founders understood we needed the Constitution specifically to protect the rights of Americans the government considered ‘bad.’

Why Isn't the Right Defending Gray?

I'm not up to speed on this whole issue, but some of the reading I have done suggested that this man was a snitch. It implied that he would often make a scene while being "arrested" to sell it.

This is why I believe he was not restrained while in the vehicle.

Like I said, I'm not up to speed
