Banks to NFL- opting out of Orange Bowl

Troll? So because I finally join a message board for a team I've followed since the early 90s I'm a troll? Or is it because I called out a cancer that was obvious after his first incident, which turned out to be a spot-on observation? Yea, I'm a troll...
Don't worry man some people on here would rather have the cancer on the Team. Banks Gone is one of the BEST things to happen to this team!!

Not sure I'd go that far. Guy balled out at times, but didn't have the...not sure what to call it....maturity? mental discipline? Just lacking something to complete the package.
I will go further than that, Banks Gone is one of the BEST things to happen to this team. If you think He wasn't a distraction and cancer to this team you should see an Eye Dr!

People think the defense quit to protest his treatment but that he is not liked by his teammates - I don’t see how it can be both.
Idk about quit. Mitchell had about the most pathetic effort I’ve seen from a LBer so I’m not sure if he was injured or just said screw it. We had a lot of injuries in the secondary and couldn’t afford any distraction. Idk if Banks being there would would’ve made us win but I guarantee the game would’ve been close.

Let me rephrase. Banks is not going to make a big enough difference to make them score 25 less points. He is a solid LB. That's it.

Not sure I agree with you. If you remember that game and really paid attention, something as off. Not just the defense or offense but the WHOLE team. Now obviously we don’t know exactly what occurred. But looking at how bad both sides of the ball played, I think the rumors about Banks Al getting into it with Hooker could have been true.

So given how well we had played the whole season up to that point, you could say Banks absolutely could have made the difference. Here is why. Let’s say our team chemistry was the same as it was when we played Bama, LSU and UK. Do you honestly think we get beat by SC? Highly doubtful. If Banks had never screwed up, the team wouldn’t have been distracted. But yes Banks caused us to get beat by SC.

Name all of the instances of Banks being a cancer from his first incident unti the SC game. Let’s see them.

I meant by his play on the field. But if what's being said is true, his ability to not be a distraction definitely could've made a difference.

I had heard he was academically ineligible, but hoped the info was wrong.
A member kept insisting he graduated, so hoped it was true.
He just walked to receive a blank paper, I guess.

A player can graduate but still has to enroll in post graduate courses to remain on the team. If the player fails to maintain the required level in whatever courses he’s taking then he becomes ineligible even if he has a degree.

So, if it’s academics that kept Banks out, it looks pretty bad for UT. In that Netflix show, some junior college in Mississippi has an understaffed and underfunded athletic department, but that lady was keeping all the JUCO kids eligible. But at UT, we can’t keep a senior eligible? I would assume our athletic department had mechanisms in place to avoid this. Seems like ‘UT failed Jeremy Banks’ is just as likely an outcome as ‘JB was a cancer’. Who the h3ll is in charge of our academic counseling in the AD?

Jeezus, we got huge locker room problems if that's the case, that they threw the game with a playoff berth on the line. Would be better to just have lost. I hope you guys are wrong.
Our first locker room problem is we have part of the floor in there that you can’t walk on. That’s like having a door you can’t open.

If Jeremy Banks couldn’t keep Jeremy Banks eligible then that’s on nobody but Jeremy Banks. I can assure you that The University’s academic and athletic departments have every resource available to an athlete to maintain grades, they in fact go above and beyond for student athletes. If you can’t keep eligible as a football player at a major college it’s because you didn’t give much of an effort.

Does our athletic department have every resource available to athletes to field a decent defense? If a team at a major college can’t have a decent defense, is it because the athletes don’t give much effort?

We don’t have a recent history of providing great resources for our student athletes with every resource to succeed on the football field. Definitely didn’t go above and beyond for our players in the last 15 years. Are you happy with our defensive coaching performance the past 2 years? Or is it just the players lack effort?

Is it possible there is room for improvement with our academic counseling when a senior doesn’t graduate?

No, I’m not happy with our defensive performance the last 2 years, but that doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the academic resources available for any team member whether they play offense or defense. They are provided tutors if needed free of charge, they are provided online or in person study halls if needed, their schedules are catered to their time available. If you show up to class and put forth even a minimal amount of effort you will graduate. How many other players on the team are/were academically ineligible for the bowl game or even the regular season? How many other SR’s that were on schedule to graduate didn’t? We’ve got athletes getting their degrees in 3 years and then going on to graduate school, if Banks can’t get his in 4 or 5 years then it’s because he didn’t care enough about it to earn it.

I feel sorry for JB. He should have been going to class.

I thought that football provides support to ensure that the players are in the classroom?

Pat Summitt would have them all sitting on the front row.

can this be confirmed?

I basing it on media that talk to staff. VQ. What type confirmation do you need? They have been saying since the Vandy game he likely would not be eligible.

I've worked with those guys for over 20 years so trust what they have. All I got for you.

It’s just wild to me that that same SC team was anemic on offense all season. They didn’t score a single offensive point the week prior vs Florida and Rattler only had 7 or 8 TD passes all year. We forced them to punt exactly ONE time all night. Blows my mind.

we all go man…Hadden pissed me off more than anything that night…hoping it was fixed, what’s the first thing we see during the Vanderbilt broadcast? Hadden entering the field running his mouth. I don’t get it

Well, supposedly we have money and resources to provide for a competitive defense, but somehow our D sucks. We had money and resources for good coaching, but provided Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt.

There is a track record for our athletic program having resources available, but still failing our student athletes. But because Jeremy Banks didn’t live up to your expectations on and off the field, there is no possible way that our athletic department/academic counseling could have failed him?

The point of all the academic resources in place is specifically for kids who don’t care enough to earn it. Their purpose is to counsel, support, and motivate our student athletes. If the purpose of my job is to graduate the players that struggle academically, and then one doesn’t, I would consider that a failure. Kudos for graduating other players, do better for the one who didn’t.

Well, I called it with the "f*** cops, we handle them back home" comment, and then the pathetic attitude because he thought he was worth NIL money he notably wasn't deserving of. But please, keep thinking he's going to turn around. He hasn't done it since he was booted from the team the first time.
