Banks to NFL- opting out of Orange Bowl

If you believe, as tennesseeduke does....then perhaps you should consider replacing Coach Heupel ASAP. Jeremy Banks was Captain of our defense. If Coach Heupel allowed that, and regarding the team.. "all of them" are glad he's gone...you gotta ask what's wrong with our Head Coach.
I have supported Jeremy throughout his career at Tennessee. He definitely has had problems off the field, no question and even my own support has wavered a bit. At the end of the day...or, if true...at the end of his career at Tennessee...I'm glad he played at Tennessee.
As to his future....I have ZERO interest in NFL Football, NONE whatsoever. If he's playing there I won't be aware, nor care.
I wish him well in his future.
He didn't have the c on his jersey the defense Captain was McCullough and Hooker was the offense Captain.

As an Old Marine I have learned on certain FACT! Judge a man by his actions! Banks played hard when he was on the field, When he was off the field those actions documented in the public record speak for themselves. Certainly I for one believe I can show a little grace for mistakes made by a mis-directed young man. All, lest one of us have made mistakes in our lives, some less, some more serious. I have witnessed much greater tragedy than this young man could have created off or within the team this year. I trust our coaches and the outstanding young men representing our beloved team moving forward and wish Mr. Banks success in the future, He was a Vol. Go Vols! Semper Fi

Way to kick someone when they are not here.Jeremy had some problems his first year with authorities, but, that seemed to be in the past.Sometimes too excited on the field with late hits. That got better with time.He would be around the ball, and, would deliver punishing hits.I hope he gets a shot at the "bigs". Good luck,Jeremy,in your future. Thanks for being a VFL.
Lol...Some of you guys use the term "VFL" very loosely.

Jeremy Banks is the best player on our defense. He was the catalyst for our defense and the enforcer. He has the size speed skill and viciousness to play in the league. His off the field antics will drop his draft stock, but whether drafted or not, he will be playing on Sundays. If I were an NFL GM, I'd certainly drill into the REAL (non media) character of the guy. He's a take all day if the character issues can be handled.
This is the biggest player loss to our team in the OR Bowl IMO.

Brother, I would agree with you on most everything if he could cover a pass across the middle…or pretty much anywhere within his range of responsibility. With all respect, in my view, he quite obviously never learned SEC-level pass coverage as an SEC linebacker, so I can’t.

and why is the Nico film showing practice still have him practicing? The guy wearing number 33 looks very much like him!

He graduated and practiceswith the team before leaving for Christmas break. Brent Hubbs said this past Thursdayhe wasn’t sure if Banks would play, as there was some chatter that Banks may opt out. I’m not sure if it was his decision, coaches, or mutual.
If his heart isn’t in it, then so be it. I’m sure he will use the facilities and attend TN pro day so I don’t know why he would opt out. Oh well.

he was out there at practice but he got very little in the way of reps. he was just there. Here are the football players that graduated this fall as released by Tennessee. Banks did not graduate.

The football players completing their master’s degrees are: Starting tight end Jacob Warren, starting defensive lineman LaTrell Bumphus and walk-on defensive lineman Maurese Smith are earning degrees in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication, offensive lineman Ollie Lane (Management & Human Resources), defensive back Cheyenne Labruzza (Recreation & Sport Management) and punter/kicker Paxton Brooks (Kinesiology).

The Tennessee football players completing their undergraduate degrees are offensive lineman Jerome Carvin (Communication Studies), defensive backs Warren Burrell (Communication Studies), Trevon Flowers (Communication Studies) and Jaylen McCollough (Communication Studies), walk-on wide receiver Michael Bittner (Finance), walk-on defensive back Romello Edwards (Recreation & Sport Management) and offensive lineman Kingston Harris (Communication Studies), who didn’t play this season.

All that time here and didn’t even finish an undergrad degree…talk about a wasting a golden opportunity…he was clearly in the nfl or bust path…hope it works out cause he’ll have nothing to fall back on

Best of luck to him.

Can't really say I am sad to see him go with the drama around him over the years.

Has some serious work to do with his coverage skills to make an NFL roster IMO.

Sounds like he didn’t have much choice since he supposedly was academically ineligible. It will be interesting to see how he does at the combine, if he’s invited, and whether he can get drafted.

Did he just graduate as reported on here elsewhere or not? I am a bit confused.

If you are playing in the senior bowl why not play in your bowl game. Smh this will not help him.

Good point.

He can play in the East-West Shrine game but not play with his "brothers" in the Orange Bowl.

Hard to take some of these guys seriously anymore with their dramatic NFL announcements on twitter.

He was a good 2 down lb. Liability in coverage. Played with a lot of passion. Don't think he will make as an NFL player. O well, next.

“I hate Banks and anyone that didn’t lead us to wins. I don’t care what these “kids” might be dealing with in their lives, just win football games for the Vols. That’s the only reason they are here. That’s also why I don’t care about punishment for players that get in trouble off the field. If they are good enough to help us win, I don’t care if they get in fights, DUIs, rob banks, or whatever. Just win games. I don’t want to hear about how hard it is to be a full time student and football player, just win games. Forget their “sacrifice”, they have it easy. Just win games.”

They’re meds for your condition. You might want to talk with someone that can help you.

No one outside of vol fans remember anything he did as far as on field.

But when you do stupid things that end up on TMZ it's not surprising that's what your remembered for

Im personally not concerned about those that view TMZ in regards to college sports

Sometimes a kid is close enough that they'll let him go thru the ceremony and get a piece of paper then when he completes the last of his work, they'll mail him the sheepskin. Just a way of letting a kid participate and not miss one of life's achievements. Happens regularly. Likely that he didn't have the credits to be eligible to play and the timing might line up with him and the staff getting that information? Regardless, it's done and both parties need to move on. Wish him the best but he's let this team down yet again.

SIAP- looks like Banks’ career as a Vol has come to an end.

Most importantly, Merry Christmas to all! Safe travels to those away from home. Enjoy time with friends and family - Stay warm.

Go Vols & Merry Christmas!

Good luck to Banks in trying to make an NFL roster.

Let me rephrase. Banks is not going to make a big enough difference to make them score 25 less points. He is a solid LB. That's it.
No he's not but he made a big difference in the preparation leading up to the game.
