Umm, we get that SEC Network money no matter the size of our stadium. Non-Sequester.
I’m sorry but I discount the words of anybody that starts a statement with “umm”.

I totally respect your opinion.
As a major donor to the UTAD, I just want a couple more years at the top of the SEC and a couple more times hosting regionals before I write a donor check for major expansion of LNS.
( I have not written one to the football program in 10 years either as a result of how bad we are.)

That’s all fine and dandy that you’re some hot shot donor. I’m sure we all wish we could be as loaded as you are but by your logic there isn’t a single program on campus that deserves ANY investment which is exactly how you get in this miserable athletic situation we’ve been in for 15 years.

We’ve spent big money on a failing football program that has produced literally zero results for the past 15 years all on some misguided hope that we’d eventually fall face first into a good coach if we hired and fired enough of them. TV has come in and in 3 full seasons accomplished more with less than ANY program on campus including basketball.

I know football is the money maker because our fanbase is kind of boneheaded, but I would just as soon shutter the football program permanently and spend money on the programs that deserve it than throw another dime towards that dumpster fire…..and yes, that includes your sarcastic comment about tennis. Teams that produce results should be rewarded.

Raise tuition to support the minor sports?
Without football, you have no minor sports.

By the philosophy that some of you guys are using for baseball, yes they do need one.

I apologize if I haven’t read enough of your posts.

I am an ALL Sports at UT guy. Do I follow all of them like religion? No. Do I think every athlete at UT should have the same opportunity. Absolutely!

Is the money there, yep.

UT has been one of those plastic Halloween pumpkins for years...”Just reach in there and take what ya want!”

We pay more to NOT coach at UT. No offense Phil.

I said in the post you quoted that “I know football is the money maker” but you keep discussing teams that “deserve” investment, and then you say the only way to “deserve” investment is to host “a few more regionals” which is ridiculous.

I’m glad our sports aren’t reliant on snobby donors like yourself and we have an extensive donor pool because if we had to produce the type of results you’re demanding before we invest in good programs then there would be no good programs on this campus and Tony V would be at TAMU or LSU 2 months from now, and we’d be back in the cellar where you want us.

Keep lifting up the trash football program at the university. It “deserves” it.

You guys do not have much in the way of reading comp skills.
I am off to the lake.

My reading comprehension skills are just fine. Your argument is just flawed. I’m waiting on you to name a program that “deserves” investment because by your standards no such program exists on this campus.

I can respect that. You gotta do what you gotta do and make the most out of it, I get that.

I think baseball, and I enjoy track, she’s done a good job and deserves an indoor facility, but ESPN, the contract with the SECN, that’s a thing. We can google Alabama NC earnings and March Madness for both women and men.

That will incrementally climb...Baseball has room to move, that’s JMO...

UT football, hope it works out, but Baseball, Track, Tennis, they hanging out, doesn’t seem like there’s a lack of money, seems like a lack of space.

JMO. GBO!!!

It’s not up to donors. It’s up to Tony Vitello.

This either gets done or the program goes back to being a doormat when he takes a better job. Vitello can get another SEC job if he so chooses but UT cannot get another Vitello. We will be a 30 for 30 on ESPN in 10 years either mocking our decision to let him go or praising our decision to make him stay.

I believe this is not really a question of money or effort.

Most want an on campus stadium but UT is still quite landlocked with a ton of other athletic and academic priorities and the school is not getting a great deal of connected real estate anytime soon. The railroad and KUB has the campus pretty landlocked for time being.

Of all the sports at UT, the most capable of moving off campus is baseball. And to be honest, the easiest way for the program to break even or profit may be to go to the Old City park.

The current footprint can go a long way to cure some problems.

Plus, I don’t think it’s really feasible to convert the current LNS into a top tier environment with field facing concourse, premium seating, suites, roof cover, parking and views.

The Old City park would attract students just with the local nightlife alone. It would be more visible to the region. It would be larger. It would have lots of public parking. The college and Southern League seasons barely overlap and schedules could easily be adjusted for sharing. The cost of the stadium would be paid by the city who would love to see 3 more months of use. The lights and sound system would be improved.

There are drawbacks. The Vols would lose the turf and be more prone to weather cancellations.

The school can reassess in a few years. Perhaps a stadium back on main campus or Cherokee Farm. Perhaps in a decade KUB or rail yard is removed freeing up more acreage for expansion.

These are all valid points except we know that TV prefers an on campus environment. So, for that reason alone, I think they will renovate LNS to a degree to bring it closer to some of the mid-tier stadiums and then they’ll occasionally play some major SEC series at the new park downtown for all the reasons you just listed.

LNS could be awesome

A lot of the other SEC parks are big and “nice”, but they’re incredibly boring looking (Arky, UF, UK, A&M, USC, even LSU)

The cooler ones imo are the unique ones like Ole Miss, State, even Vandy which pains me to say

LNS could be in that category if the renovation is done right

Nah. Adding seats down the LF line, expanding the porch seating around the outfield, and one day adding luxury boxes/new press box all the way around the top of the current bleachers is enough to make LNS a solid SEC stadium

I think you add seats down Lf line and build it so you can add suites above it next year. Put a double decker area, like I think pictures show, all the way around the OF with areas to sit and stand almost like looking back at a top golf facility. Make money during off season by using it for a driving range. Put TV's in concession area and fix up entry area. I agree with V. I think you keep it as cozy as possible and make it feel like every seat is right on the field. USC is nice but the OF bleachers are horrible and the side bleachers are too low. Go up not out. The OF structure is the most expensive. Build a new indoor facility with AC that is big enough to take infield in. Sad the guys have to hit and throw in that garage but it is better than what they used to have. I don't think it is that big of a deal.

It seems relatively cost-effective and reasonable to make the LNS upgrades that TV wants. And, it doesn't all have to happen in one year as you said. Extend LF line and increase porch seating this fall. And then, maybe in 1-2 more years after more funds are raised, you can add suites and a second deck around the rest of the stadium.

If the rumors are true, it seems TV is being very reasonable in what he wants for LNS. We gotta make it happen whatever way we can.

and please follow up by detailing the process of how improvements are drafted and then pitched to donors. It would solve a lot of back and forth jarring about who knows more about the process when most of us have no idea.......

I will refer you to the comments of our AD on the subject.

And that is where conversations like this one and others all across Big Orange Country need to be directed. All of us should make our voices known to the AD that we want him to make continuation of the baseball program's momentum a top priority. AD White is the one in the best position of authority that can make it happen.
