Basketball Coaching Rumor Mill Heating Up...

Who's going to coach my Kennesaw State Owls? I think that's the most important question here.

Didn't think anyone was interested so I didn't post but here you go...

The search to replace Tony Ingle has begun at Kennesaw State. From what I've heard, the administration wants someone with an academic background to come and clean-up the APR mess at the school. Here are the few names that I've heard so far:

Casey Alexander - Associate Head Coach Belmont. He is familiar with the league - Belmont just went 30-4 (19-1) to win the A-Sun and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Has spent 13 seasons as an assistant to Rick Byrd at Belmont.

Robert McCullum - Assistant Coach Georgia Tech. Former DI head coach at South Florida and Western Mchigan. Has also been a high major assistant at Florida, Illinois, and Kansas State.

Craig Neal - Associate Head Coach New Mexico. A former standout at Georgia Tech. Also played in the NBA and served as an assistant in the league. His name has also surfaced with the Geogia State job.

Phillip Pearson - Assistant Coach Georgia. Spent 11 seasons as an assistant at Alabama before heading to Georgia in 2009.

I could see how a no nonsense, basketball 24-7-365 guy like Bennett wouldn't care for Charlottesville.
I can see how UVAs commitment to sports would drive a man crazy, but the twin is fantastic.

Wow. I have to say, I wasn't actually expecting an answer. I appreciate it.

Don't know anything about him other than what you just posted, but Craig Neal looks interesting.

We think you suck so badly we're going to cut your pay, but we're going to obligate ourselves to you for four more years. Brilliant. Only in modern college athletics.

Yeah, apparently the recruits (including Zollo, ex-Gillispie UK recruit) all balked at coming and said they would not be at Western if Mcdonald was fired. Therefore they "punish" him by cutting his base down from 350,000 to 250,000 and giving him 4 years. Oh baby its a wild world...

NC State head coach Sidney Lowe is expected to meet with AD Debbie Yow tomorrow to learn his fate. From what I've heard, Yow has made her decision to make a change. My sources tell me that she has already committed to hire Parker Executive Search. I've also hear that one of her top targets will be Arizona head coach Sean Miller. Miller spent five seasons as an assistant at NC State, and there has been speculation recently that he would like to return to the east coast. More on this one tomorrow....

on March 4th, I mentioned that I heard St. John's assistant Mike Dunlap was the favorite at Wyoming. It now appears that he officially interviewed for the job yesterday, and is still believed to be the front-runner. There are rumors that a decision and announcement could be made shortly. Stay tuned....

Not sure what's going on at Texas Tech. A lot of people are saying that Billy Gillispie will be named head coach as early as today. I'm not sure I buy that one however. According to multiple sources, Tech president Guy Bailey has said that no offer has been made to any candidate and none will be made before incoming Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt arrives on campus March 21st. This makes it very interesting for Gillispie and TTU - last week, it sounded like this was Gillispie's job. Now that Oklahoma and Arkansas have opened, it gives Gillispie some time to talk to those schools as well. I will be interested to see if President Bailey changes his course and finds a way to nab BCG ASAP.

the top four choices for the Arkansas job are:

Missouri Head Coach Mike Anderson. He was an assistant at Arkansas for 17 years with Nolan Richardson and would return the "40 minutes of hell" style that made Arkansas successful in the 1990's.

Minnesota Head Coach Tubby Smith. Keeps saying publically that he's staying at Minnesota, but behind closed doors it's another story. May be in the mix at NC State and Oklahoma as well.

Marquette Head Coach Buzz Williams. Has been tied to every job in the south this off season. If he doesn't get Texas Tech, look for Arkansas to make a strong run at him.

Kansas State Head Coach Frank Martin. I keep hearing his name come up here. He took the Wildcats to the Elite 8 last year and is 94-42 during his tenure at K-State.

Last night Tony Bruno was trying to make excuses for Paul Hewitt saying it's difficult to build a program with one-and-done players.

Please.

According to scout.com, the four programs that have recruited the most top 20 prospects since 2005 are Georgia Tech, Kansas, UNC, and Duke. Three of those programs have won national championships since then. The other has had twice as many losing seasons as postseason appearances (of any kind).
