I heard today that Anthony Grant may be a possibility at GT and that NC State may be interested in Mark Fox.

Out of curiosity, why? I'm assuming it has something to do with the amount of talent in the area.

Top shelf facility. A state full of junior college talent. A conference that gives you plenty of leeway in who you admit to school.

No reason for either to move, unless the money is obscene.

That's the thing. Apparently NC State is willing to fork it over...big time.

As for GT, who knows? For me personally, the Bama job really pales in comparison to GT.

Wouldn't have guessed that Fresno's facilities were that great, but hey, you learn something new every day.

Downside of the job-you have to live in Fresno.

Interesting, did not know that. Only thing I ever heard about Fresno is Tark landed there after UNLV.

Honestly I think NC St is just throwing darts hoping someone says yes. I've read names they are going after that would make no sense for a coach to leave where they are for NC St.

yup. this is why pat hill is a complete and utter fraud. no reason their football team shouldn't be boise. they have the central valley to themselves essentially.

The search is progressing quickly at Providence. The early leader here appears to be Fairfield head coach Ed Cooley. Coach Cooley is a Providence native and former Boston College and URI assistant.
Another candidate picking up some steam is former Ohio State and Boston College head coach Jim O'Brien. Sources say that there has been contact and interest from both side on this one.
Also, I've heard Arizona State head coach Herb Sendak's name mentioned. Even though he has denied interest, I'd still keep an eye on him.
Finally, the dark horse who has seemed to creep into the race is Boston University head coach Pat Chambers. He led his squad to the America East Championship this season and and has experience in the Big East - he is a former assistant to Jay Wright at Villanova. He is HOT right now!

GT is reportedly looking at a couple of home runs hires who have expressed interest in the job.

If these don't work out which its likely they won't expect GT to go after Chris Mooney from Richmond. Heavy interest from both parties involved...if something didn't happen with that Anthony Grant would be next in line and then Shaka Smart.

As far as Tubby Smith that is completely false. GT isn't looking at him.

- Sounds as if St. Mary's HC Randy Bennett is the leader for Utah. We are told it could be done this week. Different source says, If Trent Johnson leaves LSU for Utah which more and more like its going to happen.

- We continue to hear the following names at Oklahoma: Marquette HC Buzz Williams, Memphis HC Josh Pastner, New Mexico HC Steve Alford and Cincinnati HC Mick Cronin.

- Updated list at Kennesaw St: Georgia Tech assistant Robert McCullum, Augusta St HC Dip Metress, Georgia assistant Phillip Pearson, New Mexico assistant Craig Neal and Belmont assistant Casey Alexander.

- Word is that the AD at Arkansas has no desire to hire anyone with ties to Nolan Richardson. Reggie Theus could be a sleeper candidate... a different source says Here is what we are told about situation at Arkansas and Missouri HC Mike Anderson; they have already reached out to him and made him an offer. He is publicly stating that he is staying at Missouri but if they came back and made him a financial offer that he could not refuse he would go. Apparently Nolan Richardson has given Anderson his blessing to take the job. The AD will conduct the search himself.

- We are again hearing that former Oklahoma HC Jeff Capel is looking to get involved at Georgia St or Towson.

- A couple of names that we have heard at Indian Hills JC have been Toledo assistant Bob Sunvold ,Moberly JC HC Jay Spoonhour and Tennessee HC Steve Forbes.

- Some are saying the Richmond HC Chris Mooney is the leader for the Georgia Tech job.
Word is that the Georgia Tech job is wide open, some names being mentioned include Alabama HC Anthony Grant, VCU HC Shaka Smart, Dayton HC Brian Gregory and Richmond HC Chris Mooney. Eddie Fogler will serve as a consultant on the deal.

- Not surprising that Arizona HC Sean Miller is not interested in the NC St. job.

- We hear that UAB HC Mike Davis is making a play for the Georgia Tech job.

Thats a "kush" job for Billy to take in Lubbock. He'd have the support to allow for him to rebuild for a few years.

Other options I see for him are TCU and Arkansas.

I wish Billy the best wherever he goes, even if it turns out to be Lubbock.

As long as they have a strong public transportation system in the Lubbock area, Billy will do just fine.

For whatever this is worth, NC State says they are willing to spend up to $3M per year on a new coach. GT is only willing to spend up to half of that. If it came down to a bidding war over one of the few "home run" hires, I think NC State might win out.

True. That's why they are apparently ready to pull out their coffers. However, NC State isn't dogfood. There is potential there.

Depends on what the coach wants

GT is getting a new arena in the 2012-2013 season.... and we just got a brand new basketball facility that is really nice. Plus you're in ATL so you're sitting in hotbed for recruiting talent.

If the coach wants just money he will go to State though.

Hmmm. Go to NC State in Raleigh and compete year-in, year-out with Duke and UNC. Or....go to Georgia Tech in Atlanta and compete against, well.....is there another close-by relevant program? Does Georgia count? (I'm referring more to recruiting and having more "headline" opportunity, for lack of better wording.)

But yet Lowe pulled a top 5 class last year. I think NCSU could be a good job. If they hire the right guy, he could be a hero next year with the kids that are there. I have been told that Yow already has a deal in principle and as soon as that person is out of the tournament it will become official. We'll see....

I hope they do. They've fallen a long way from the "Fire & Ice" days. ACC needs more weight at the top of the conference. NC State has an excellent basketball history, but it's been a while. Georgia Tech would be the better job, right now, IMO. State probably has a more ardent fan base though. Just waiting for something to cheer about.

I hear ya! I live just northeast of Raleigh, all of my employees are State grads. Kind of fun to hear all of the excitement before both football and bball season, they are so optimistic! Then as the season wears on it turns to "wait till next year...we've got a great recruiting class coming in..." NCSU could be a great job for the right coach. You are right, the fanfare is very passionate and they can pull a great class if they play their cards right.

FWIW...I would live in the Raleigh Durham area long before I would ever live in Atlanta.
