Honestly didn't watch much Mizzou last year except when they F'd everyone and lost to little sister of the blind in the big dance....

Play fast up tempo, high scoring, usually guard orientated game right?

Wow, ok. haha, Yeah, I caught that game too, must have missed the Tennessee tourney game though. This team is nothing like last years team, so watching last year wouldnt tell you anything. Thanks for the info. I was actually wanting to "talk basketball", guess thats just for you UT folks. :peace2:

Wow, a bit defensive huh?

It wasn't meant the least bit as a shot at you or Mizzou, be kind of dumb of me seeing as you Tennessee didn't make the dance even.

I was simply saying, that I didn't watch much of Mizzou (largely because they weren't in the SEC and many of their games weren't on)....I was saying one of the few I did see was the tourney game, and basically was saying obviously that game shouldn't be used as much of a comparison.

It's hard for me to tell you how Tennessee matches up with Mizzou without me knowing much about Mizzou...that's why I asked; up tempo, high scoring, guard orientated team..right? That's the things I've mostly read and heard...sorry you took my post that way.

my bad then, sounded like a shot. They will not be as efficient on offense as last years team but they will be much more so on defense. They will start a pretty small, quick lineup; Pressey 5'9, Dixon 6'1, Ross 6'5, Bowers 6'8 and Oriakhi 6'9.
We are definitely a guard orientated team. We play a pick'n roll offense, 4 out 1 in. We like to run our 4th guard on the wing a lot to open up the middle for drives. There will be a lot of times we have 4 guards in (Bell 6'3, or Negus Webster-Chan 6'7) but not restricted to it like last year. Who will be Maymon's replacement? Or will he be healthy by conf. games?

He should be healthy before conference, that's he hope atleast from the staff. If he isn't, the thought of redshirting becomes a real possibility...

Ok that's about what I remember reading and hearing and from limited viewing of them...it really sounds like our styles are complete contrasts, and it really could come down to who decides the tempo and style of play.

We struggle against quicker driving teams, our PGs are bigger guys and aren't quick, same for our 2's...our posts aren't the quickest either and are much more comfortable banging.

Well probably go...6'1" 200, 6'6" 205, 6'6" 215, 6'7" 260, 6'8" 270....obviously a big, strong lineup.

If we can slow the game down, keep it in the 60's and get the ball inside, id really like our chances. Our bigs dominated oriakhi last year and that was with Drummond alongside him who was also dominated. If its an up tempo game, and high scoring I'd give Mizzou the edge.

As I said...it may really come down simply to which team forces the other to play their style.

I'm gonna get in trouble here, but I truly believe that the Pearl fiasco was a blessing in disguise. Martin is doing great things here. I'm sure of it.

With Pearl, I felt UT had topped out a little bit. I think Martin has a chance to win championships.

this is spot on, pearl had several 5 star recruiting busts........plus a darn miracle we didnt have serious trouble with reefer, oops i mean ramar.

BTO, jjay wants to know who we're targeting for '14 and what our chances are with them.

No, I read the bball forums enough to get the info I'm interested in. I just don't see point of ridiculing people for not following the team in the offseason in a thread that's sole purpose is for people to get info about the team. Not everybody has time to follow this stuff year round.

Just a joke dude. There was a stretch a few months ago where people were asking BTO that question 2-3 times a day at various places in the bball forum. I just think it's funny. I'll cut it out though.

Haha ZJC did most of them last year, if not all. I think I remember BTO doing some, but mostly ZJC.

No worries, guess I just didn't read enough to see the history behind it.

Tennessee shot 70.2%, 5th in the conference. That's not terrible. Would like that to improve though.
This is an area that Martin will concentrate on improving.
He usually can't finish a sentence without mentioning his guys getting to the stripe.
I'm reading from that, that his motion offense is going to include a lot of dribble-drive in the future, with guys like Moore attacking the seams against the zone and drawing fouls.
Reference his comments about KY last season who got to the foul line 300 more times than opponents.

Martin isn’t worried about a lack of perimeter firepower.

“Look at the team that won the national championship (Kentucky),” Martin said. “How many jump shooters did they have? They had a couple guys who made threes, but they had several guys who could get the rim. They got to the free-throw line over 300 times more than their opponents.

“We want to be like that. If you have multiple guys who can penetrate and make plays, get to the free-throw line, you can score the ball like we want to do.”

I was actually wondering if take more jump shots this season. If Richardson, Edwards, and McRae are going to be getting good minutes, I think I would expect slightly more jumpers than drives. Could be wrong though...
