Battle @ Bristol vs. Cowboys Classic

These games are recruiting tools, and in the world of recruiting, the perception of having a "bigger deal" game is definitely an edge.

I didn't know the Cowboys Classic was already on the books for the year prior to this one, so maybe Battle @ Bristol was CBJ's response to Bama having these high profile games.

These neutral site games are becoming more and more common. Between 2007 and 2016, Alabama will have played in 8 neutral site regular season contests. Bama would be doing this game against USC regardless of what any other team is doing.

I would hope UT's decision to play in Bristol isn't just a kneejerk response to what Bama regularly does, but is a well thought out plan to broaden the UT brand.

You made it sound like in your OP that:

1. This was a new concept game in Dallas
2. It would take away any Battle at Bristol hype

If you've been a college football fan longer than 6 months you would know there have been several "big" early season games in Dallas. LSU vs. Oregon, Bama vs. Michigan, etc.

Nevermind that they aren't even on the same day. The Battle at Bristol is a week later.

There have been rumors flying around about this game going back at least 10 years maybe more. I never thought it would happen but I assure you it is not a kneejerk response. This has been many years in the making.

Come on man, nothing in Atlanta is going to be as high profile as a game at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. I have to think Bama sought out a higher profile game because of all the positive publicity that Battle @ Bristol is getting.

This game has absolutely nothing to do with Bristol. Merely suggesting it is hilarious

I wish TN would play in Jerry World. Would be awesome for me

I know that stadium seemed like a huge over-spend at the time but when you factor the number of events held there it makes more financial sense than spending $300MM to update Neyland Stadium (as an example).

Jerry world has something going on all the time. They can re-configure the place to accomodate numerous events.

Still wouldn't want to sit in the upper deck, though.

You mention the "Battle @ Bristol" as if it has national interest.

Ignoring the fact that the OP doesn't really have a discussion to talk about, I'm wondering why you think this was needed. You're usually pretty unbiased as a gator fan on a vol forum, but this was just pretty stupid.

A little butt hurt, 99? Talk about a program heading to the toilet...

At least we're clawing our way out now.

Enjoy.

I guarantee it won't.

Virginia Tech is the biggest pretender program in the country. They may even get worse by the time that game rolls around.

So a college football game with 160,000 in attendance (that also completely demolishes the previous record) between two high-profile programs won't receive national attention?

Dumb. Just dumb. What the hell are you even talking about by calling VT a "pretender" program?

You're showing your ass in this thread, 99gator.

I just saw on ESPN that Alabama has agreed to play its 2016 season opener vs. USC at AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys).

Is he trying to compete with Battle @ Bristol?

It seems that the Battle @ Bristol and other big games UT has been scheduling are helping in our recruiting, which makes me think Bama was motivated by this to try to schedule their own big name games.

Thoughts?

Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans to play in 2016 Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium - ESPN

My thought is that this is stupid.

That program heading to the toilet stomped a mudhole in us last season. UF may be down but with their resources and AD they won't stay down.

I have no respect for Virginia Tech.

At all.
