Battle @ Bristol vs. Cowboys Classic

I'm still not a big fan of neutral site games. But why is Penn State playing in Ireland? I just feel like that would take away so much of the excitement of the opener without having all your home fans there. Just a bunch of fans that really don't care who wins

How is this trying to compete with Battle @ Bristol? They aren't even on the same date. Also, Bama typically plays in one of these games every year whether in Atlanta or Dallas.

So, what's your point again?

His point is Bama sux. Any true Vol fan should know that. Ergo...

Got to do better than that. Name all the other schools you can think of with an OOC game like FSU on the back of the schedule every year.

Tennessee voluntarily plays the best program in college football every year when they don't technically have to.

You've been a college fan for "30 years" yet somehow missed the last 5 years that there's a high profile first weekend game at the Cowboys Stadium? Then act like HE's the dumb one?

And why the heck would Alabama need to be concerned about whatever attention we might get from the Bristol game? Do you honestly think that's a real concern?

If you don't think we're a major concern on Alabama's radar, you're the one who's not thinking. We're not far behind them on recruiting and don't take Saban to be the kind of coach who underestimates anyone or who likes to be upstaged by his bitter rival.

I was trying to be nice on the 1st page of this thread. :ermm:

I guess I should take the stance that some will never learn.

:):crazy::eek:lol::)

Boca, I usually respect the directness in your posts, but in this case you're showing your disrespect. Not sure why it's so hard to believe that someone is a college football fan, but doesn't pay attention to the fact that a neutral site game we've never been a part of is played at a certain location. I honestly don't ever remember it being hyped up that much.

I don't really get the Ireland game location either. The NFL plays international games because they're trying to build a fan base. Why would the Irish care about U.S. collegiate athletics?

It's not usually "that" hyped up. It was just an announcement on ESPN about a game sheduled in 2016. It is an good match-up from a marquis standpoint but I doubt you'll see it mentioned again until 2 years from now.

If UT and Michigan announced they scheduled a game in 2016 or 17 I'm sure it would get the same type of announcement on ESPN.

Here's a link about the game. Interesting match-up in 2017....

Then you are simply a UT fan, and not a college football fan.

The Cowboys Classic has been played for five years, and each game has been between ranked opponents.

In 2011 and 2012, the game was between Top 10 opponents, and the first College Gameday of the year came live from Dallas both times.

If you didn't know that the game existed prior to now, then you have not paid much attention to anything happening outside of Knoxville.

You mention the "Battle @ Bristol" as if it has national interest.

If you don't think that the largest college football game in history at a venue that has a 160,000 seat capacity will not have national interest you are either jealous or just ignorant. I can tell you right now, with it's location being within 2 hours of both schools it will be sold out. Easily.

You serious? Bama has won what 3 or 4 national championships in the past decade? We have won 15 games in 3 years. No, I don't think we're a major concern as of yet. Maybe one day we'll be the juggernaut we we're, but right now Alabama are 3 laps ahead.

It was one of the leading headlines on Yahoo.com yesterday and several other web news sites...not just ESPN...although it was more newsworthy due to the big name matchup rather than location. Did Battle @ Bristol get coverage on national non-sports news sites? I think it will when it happens....it will be a national story because of the attendance record, but probably not until it actually happens.

What happened over the course of the last 10 seasons is no longer a concern to either the Bama or UT football teams. What is on their radar is the last 3-4 years of recruiting and what that will translate to on the field this upcoming season and over the next few seasons. UT is winning on the recruiting trail right now and I guarantee you it's on Saban's radar. You don't ignore it when one of your top rivals has as much recruiting momentum as we do right now. That would just be stupid on their part.

It was all over the place when it was announced last Oct.

This isn't pointed at you, but that fact that you don't remember should tell you all you need to know. We live in a 24/7/365 news world.

It was merely an announcement made on 7/16/14. Today will bring on "new" stories to fill the space. A week from now, if not sooner, no one will remember this outside of Bama fans. USC fans probably couldn't care less.

Notre Dame played there last year I think. Believe it was against Air Force.

I guarantee it won't.

Virginia Tech is the biggest pretender program in the country. They may even get worse by the time that game rolls around.

Your guarantee is wrong, when it was first announced there were many comments under the article that read,'I have no interest in either team, I am coming to be part of the largest football game ever played'. Since then I have spoken to ticket holders who have said that relatives and friends who hold no interest in UT want tickets. So you keep telling yourself it's not a big deal.

Personally I love the early season ooc big time games. I love The Vols, but I also enjoy a good college football game.

a lot college fans have no idea where Bristol is and little interest in car racing, therefore little buzz so far out. The Jerry dome is still a bill deal in sports.. Also, national media would rather go dallas for the resturants, nightlife etc... I am a die hard VOL but looking at this objectively
