Battle @ Bristol vs. Cowboys Classic

You made it sound like in your OP that:

1. This was a new concept game in Dallas
2. It would take away any Battle at Bristol hype

If you've been a college football fan longer than 6 months you would know there have been several "big" early season games in Dallas. LSU vs. Oregon, Bama vs. Michigan, etc.

Nevermind that they aren't even on the same day. The Battle at Bristol is a week later.

1. I thought it was a new concept game in Dallas
2. I never implied it would take away from Battle @ Bristol hype....I implied that may be Bama's hope by scheduling that game

I've been a college football fan for 30+ years and never noticed there had been games at the new Cowboys stadium....big deal.

And who ever said anything about them being on the same day? I was just discussing whether these teams compete to schedule a "bigger event" neutral site game for a recruiting advantage....what's so hard to understand about that?

Ignoring the fact that the OP doesn't really have a discussion to talk about, I'm wondering why you think this was needed. You're usually pretty unbiased as a gator fan on a vol forum, but this was just pretty stupid.

Why isn't the topic of college football teams (one being UT, which is sort of relevant to this website) competing to schedule "bigger and bigger event" neutral site games to create a recruiting advantage worth discussing? I thought it was fairly interesting off-season banter.

Doing some searching for big neutral site games this year and found this...

Best Neutral Site Games for 2014 College Football Season | Bleacher Report

What I thought was interesting was that James Franklin's PSU team opens the season with a game in Ireland. There are also 3 games at the Cowboys stadium, but other than those, not many on this list look like "big event" games like Battle @ Bristol.

I'm betting by 2016 or 2017 we'll see a lot more.

It is. Carry on.

Being that NO one remembers or cares about last week then it really doesn't matter.

I promise you, Bama (in 2014) doesn't worry about what UT is doing.

I have no respect for Florida.

At all.

Too scared to even travel outside the state of Florida for OOC game.

Got to do better than that. Name all the other schools you can think of with an OOC game like FSU on the back of the schedule every year.

Come on man, nothing in Atlanta is going to be as high profile as a game at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. I have to think Bama sought out a higher profile game because of all the positive publicity that Battle @ Bristol is getting.

I have to think you don't actually think very often.

You've been a college fan for "30 years" yet somehow missed the last 5 years that there's a high profile first weekend game at the Cowboys Stadium? Then act like HE's the dumb one?

And why the heck would Alabama need to be concerned about whatever attention we might get from the Bristol game? Do you honestly think that's a real concern?

I know that stadium seemed like a huge over-spend at the time but when you factor the number of events held there it makes more financial sense than spending $300MM to update Neyland Stadium (as an example).

Jerry world has something going on all the time. They can re-configure the place to accomodate numerous events.

Still wouldn't want to sit in the upper deck, though.

There's not really a bad seat in the joint...not with the board.

Their answer to that question is Florida St.

Even just a few years ago when the FSU program was in dissary, they still point to that game as their premier OOC game and based upon the rivalry between the two.

You mention the "Battle @ Bristol" as if it has national interest.

....it does. And it will......when the times comes for it. You don't think that game isn't going to be marketed hard given that it will at the largest venue to ever host a college football game? There is money to be made.

105,000 showed up to watch the Detroit Red Wings play the Toronto Maple Leafs on 1/1/14.

It was as if time stopped in the United States

Yes......difference being that people actually care a lot more about football in the United States than they do hockey.......

The SEC has taken an official position of trying to get members to schedule high profile OOC neutral site games for several reasons, & I imagine not the least of which are:

1. Exposure on SEC Network.
2. Exposure to NCG Selection Committee.
3. Exposure to recruits.

IOW - Exposure, exposure, & exposure. (& money .. heh, heh)
