Bearden RB Devrin Young Commits to Tennessee!

Who on here thought Dexter McCluster would translate into the NFL? I think Devrin translates into the SEC as Dexter translates to the NFL... So far Dexter is looking good, so why not give Devrin a chance to suit up in orange before passing judgement.

Intentional fallacy btw...

I did not think McCluster would make a roster to be honest

Go Vols!!!

And most of our skill position players returned punts in high school, some of which probably looked better than Young. The fact that you can return a punt against slow, unathletic sophomores from BFE HS, TN doesn't mean you'll be able to do it against the coverage of the Gators or Bulldogs. It takes good blocking, quickness, and vision to get the opportunity to showcase your speed. Speed is the last problem we have

Cobb doesn't have breakaway speed, but it sure looks like he is doing pretty well in the SEC. Plus, you can't go by the Rivals times for speed as they had Demps and McCluster both listed as 4.5 in the 40 times.

Some of you guys act as though we have one scholarship remaining and the coaches had to decide between this kid and a DT. It's way more complicated than that, and I think they have a good feel for what's out there and who fills our needs best.
Since you mention DTs.
Looks like Chickillo is coming here as a DE.
He has the frame to be a DT with some weight training.
Would he be wasted at DT or leave him at DE.
Your thoughts.

Scratch that. Went to Miami

At his size, he better run in the 4.3s. Anyone know what his actual 40 time is?

Young has decent speed, but those of you comparing him to Brandon James/Dexter McCluster/Devin Hester are lying to yourselves. I seriously doubt he's even close to as fast as Eric Berry, much less Hester.

I hope you're wrong. I would not consider him a take if he cannot run under a 4.4.

It's not our returners fault they haven't had good returns.

This is a reach. I don't really understand it. Unless the staff feels he can make an impact as a CB or an offensive player, this is a dumb take.

I'm fully aware of that.

However, we have a talented tackle - Hughes. And Walls will be back next year from his injury.

We don't have any players on the team that have been productive kick returners.

Edit: Grammer

ummm... that'd be "grammar" (but the irony is sweet)

I don't think this kid is a reach at all. He is an athlete that can fill a need anywhere on the field at skill positions whether its offense/defense. I'm basing that solely off of his senior highlight films and his interview. Now, for the stargazers, if he was 5'10 185 pounds, had all kinds of D-1 offers, and a four star rating then this would be a great catch huh.

Let the coaches recruit to their particular needs. We can judge the coaches 3 years from now if it doesn't work out. To say this kid is a reach at this point is ridiculous!! GBO!

Not sure what kind of competition he is facing, but he has already taken 3 of his 6 kick returns to the house and for 312 yards, in just 5 games. He also has 1,006 rushing yards and 15 TD's. This kid has to have been offered for his kick return skills.

This kid is an absolute Dominator in HS football......I went to the first game of the year, and hes' the best in HS I've ever seen.....6 TD's.......

Everytime he touches the football he's basically gone.... incredible vision, lateral speed, quickness, elusiveness, and cutting ability....May lack the top-end speed and size necessary to be All-NFL, but is very comparable to a Dennis Rogan, IMO......

He will be a big asset on O, D, and special teams.......remember, we also need a major upgrade in team speed and athleticism for our entire lineup, and this kid fits the bill perfectly.....

The real question here is.... Why has Kentucky not offered? They do like them some Knoxville boys.
