Bennett eliminates Kentucky

Jefferson picks duke. Could be good for UT, 1. He didn't go to UK but more importantly he plays a similar style and position as Nichols.

A 5* top 30 player at his position could lower his chances of picking duke. Even if it's a minimal impact every little bit helps.

These are the teams who have a legitimate shot at an NCAA tourney next year, and this is how I would rank them:

Florida
Kentucky
Tennessee
Missouri
Alabama
Arkansas
Ole Miss

Cats still looking to add Montrezzl if he gets a release, but I dont think he is a critical get. Cal really thought that Orhiaki was coming and when he didn't , it sent them scrambling.

I said he wasn't it just made no logical sense, similar scenario as Lyons.

There's definitely a host of teams waiting on Harris, but it's starting to look like Va Tech won't be granting it...

FWIW UK is still looking at a few kids overseas as well. Guess we didn't get our fill of eligiblity drama with Kanter.

I don't know who said it first, but I think this is a case of guys not wanting to be recruited over x 10 after their freshman season (like Willie Kemp at Memphis).

So, yeah, their bench may be short next season, but the reason could simply be expectations of KY having another NBA team in 2013-14.

Or, perhaps there's rumors on the recruiting trail of Calipari leaving for an NBA team now that he has his title. I'm not saying I expect him to, but that doesn't mean the idea's not being floated around to recruits.

This is what my opinion has been. Jon Hood is another guy, he'd be playing at many schools, but he's been recruited over and is having trouble seeing the floor at UK.

I don't want a kid who has already convinced himself he can't compete for playing time.

I think it's being realistic.

Take Anthony Bennett for example. He'd have gotten his minutes there's no question there, but as he said himself there enough shots to go around. He's trying to be a one and done, so he obviously wants to be seen to put himself firmly in the lottery. In order to do that, he felt he needed a decent amount of looks and freedom. His concern is a legit one. Are there enough shots to go around with all those guys, and him still be able to show out offensively? Ultimately he decided there wasn't and so he took his talents to Vegas.

Now not every recruit will have that mindset, but many will. Oriakhi was the same way. He wanted to go somewhere he'd start and see major minutes, there's a good chance he wouldn't get that at UK, and so he went to Missouri.

This could start to be a trend on UK teams if they don't get some 4 year guys. If you think about it their depth the first 3 years was guys like Patterson, Stevenson, liggins, Harrelson, miller, and now hood, all of those guys were leftovers from billy g. It's too early to tell how it'll play out because this is the first year really. Going forward though, it'll be interesting to see how other recruits feel about coming in along with other highly rated guys at their position. It almost appears you could have a 6 man rotation year in and year out of mostly frshman and maybe one or 2 sophomore that returned to school.

Hood was injured last year...ergo, no playing time. If healthy, he should log some cameo minutes this season.

Simply out of necessity.
Hood's an unknown quantity. He's kind of a holdover from Billy G in that he committed when Billy G was coach, but stayed when he was fired and Cal was hired (similar to Orton). He was a consensus Top 50 recruit, and while that doesn't always mean much (coughVargascough), it's not like the guy is a terrible player. We'll see what he can do.

About transfers... I'm definitely grateful to Frank Martin. Damontre Harris will decide tomorrow between Florida and Kansas. Harris is allowed to transfer in-conference, which is rare.

Unless something goes horribly horribly wrong, UK's 2013 haul is set to be one of the best classes in history, on paper. That sounds foolish to say after the performance of last years class, but nonetheless it is out there.

Betcha that Cal started blowing up Harrell's cell within seconds.

Harrell has eliminated Uk, has UF in his top 5.

A bit unexpected, thought UK would be more of a player. Odd to see calipari missing on so many guys late like this.

I think the theory of guys expecting to be completely recruited over by next Spring is right on the money.

At least they won't have an NC-contending NBA team for the next 12 months.

You know how UK fans will explain it. "Cal never really wanted him; if he had, he would have gotten him," and such. I just think it's going to be tough for Cal to get guys who aren't likely one-and-dones. Why would anyone want to be recruited over every year?

Harrell (not Harris) will probably go to Louisville. Everywhere else seems like a longshot at this point. Harris (South Carolina transfer) still hasn't decided between Florida and Kansas.

Yea I meant Harrell my bad. Hell be playing with Donovan next month on the US team, could be a side note.

i bet Cal's biggest problem is the nasty knicks rumor.

I'd say the over recruitment is a bigger problem seeing as how Woodson and the Knicks are finalizing a deal right now.

Guys who aren't one and dones don't want to come in and play one year just to be over recruited the following year and spend the next 3 years on the bench.

Cal is going to need to start getting a few ole playing 4 year guys along with the 4 or 5 studs he brings in every year.
