Bible Topic Thread (merged)

ok.. Big question here then... Must we repent all our sins when we meet Peter at the Gate, or must we have repented all our sins while we are on earth?

you would repent while on earth. i mean, we don't know when we're going to die.

there are some verses that talks about Jesus walking with his disciples and there was an accident and caused some med to be killed. the disciples asked Jesus why that happend. paraphrasing, Jesus basically said that things are going to happen to people, whether they be Christians or not but the main thing is that we be ready to go to heaven if that accident happens to us.

as for 9/11 and hurricane katrina. God has caused tragedies to show is disaproval of how people and countries act if they turn their back on God. if you look what he did to Israel, His chosen people. when they started worshipping idols God was angry and punished them for turning their back on God.

I don't know if that's the reason for 9/11 and katrina, i'm just saying it could be a reason.

I look forward to asking God that and MANY other questions.

so if I lie to my boss, get in my car, plow into a semi and die, I'm not going to Heaven?

I'm with T-Town. I don't believe in that theory.

everyone talking about this subject including me will sin today....there was only one man that lived a perfect life and that was Jesus...as christians we are to ask forgiveness everyday...i too believe once saved always saved...now that doesn't mean go party it up every night come home and ask God to forgive us, if we're saved we should want to turn from that life and i know thats hard but God knows we're gonna sin and therefore he sent his son Jesus as a sacrifice on our behalf to die to save us from our sins

i agree completely. But there are those who believe that you must be free from sin when you die. Evidently Joe is one of those, and I'm trying to figure out if Kev is. I would just like to know where they are coming from with that idea.

Let me change the subject a bit here.

Should this topic be in the Politics forum?

Thanks for reading along LG. We would love to hear your thoughts, 500 words or less please.
OE has tried to get a seperate forum for religion, but this is where it has settled.

i don't think so, God knows that Christians aren't perfect and are going to sin. look at his disciples, they sinned while with Jesus. i think it's the effort we make to resist the temptation to sin.

i had a cousin that was a meth addict. well he became a Christian and stopped doing meth, well it wasn't long until fell and started doing meth again. he got a bad batch of it basically caused his lungs to shut down and passed away. i talked to many people about it and some said that God kne that this would be such a struggle for him to overcome for the rest of his life and decided to take him. i believe he was a Christian and he's in heaven now. so even though he sinned after he because saved, i think he's in heaven now.

there is no way to be sin free when you die....there is one way and one way only into heaven and that is to be saved thru the blood of Jesus Christ

The hang up might be the passage that says that "the book of life will be opened". This is for our rewards in Heaven, if you are a Christian, not to keep you out.

By George...I think he's got it.

I don't necessarily know if I believe everything. I was just pointing out scripture and what I was raised to believe. I was raised Pentecost, and was pretty much forced to go to church. The church I used to attend was generally a place to socialize for me. It wasn't until I repented, was baptized, and spoke in tongues that I started taking it seriously. Then, the more I started to understand what was going on, the more I wanted to distance myself from the church altogether. My pastor, I mentioned his name earlier in this thread, turned into an anti-government extremist, and it all went downhill from there. His politics got in the way of his preaching and teaching. I still believe in God, and feel that our sins do need to be forgiven. We were always taught from a young age that there was a thing called "backsliding" and that you had to be saved all over again.

so why would that be held against us when we do die, you would have to be in perpetual prayer to get in

well when you became a christian, you prayed and asked for forgiveness and asked to be saved, so you're a Christian and if you're trying to live a Godly life, God will see that. he knows your going to sin but he said if you ask for forgiveness, he'll forgive you of your sins. if you were to die in an accident and your a Christian, you're going to Heaven. i don't think i'm explaining it very well

Uhhhh, small, little, slight :blink::birgits_giggle:

Sorry I guess I should have expanded on that. What I should have said was it depends on the interpretation of micro evolution...... but given the explanation you originally gave I would agree with you. I am always careful when talking about evolution.

You weren't raised in Maryville were you?

Ha! I'll try to be parsimonious.

Was the role of religion in politics discussed in the thread before? I admit I did not read all of it.

My position on the topics at hand:

1) I am taught that in order to go to Heaven one must accept Jesus as his lord and saviour and ask to be forgiven his sins. While we all know that we will fall short of acting on Earth in a way that is consistent with the way we are supposed to, and that Jesus was sent to tell us that its "going to be okay," that does not give us license to sin without remorse or consequence. Only those who really repent will reform in some measure.

2) Our world has a bad history of mixing politics and religion. Everyone seems to think that their belief system would be good for the rest of the world. I, personally, would appreciate it very much if God would give us some guidance on this sometime in the near future.

Backsliding is just another term for sin. As a Christian, your sins are already forgiven. A man named Jesus took care of that. The Holy spirit convicts you of your sins and you feel bad about them. But please do not confuse that with losing your Salvation.

I concur :)
