Bible Topic Thread (merged)

I really don't know enough about it. I sort of think it could be such an out of body experience if you will that the speaker might not fully be in control and thus not know what he/she is saying. But part of me thinks that whole theory is nonsense, that the speaker should have much more control. Again, it is definitely one of my weaker points in knowing the Bible and spreading the word.

that makes me laugh.

I was raised in a Church that if someone said Amen out loud, everyone thought he or she was crazy. That might explain my understanding of the subject.
I do not doubt it, but I have never seen it. Maybe if I did, I would think differently.

I always miss too many posts, but how much of arole should church (Not just God) play in your life? The reason I ask is because I clearly remember when my parents were getting divorced the preacher coming and basically making my mother feek 2 inches tall for doing it. I'm not going to get personal on here, but let's just say I firmly believe while God doesn't want people to get a divorce, in this instance it was the best thing. I think some people listen to what the "church" than to God. I defend Christinaity so much on here that I've never really gotten a chance to say that on here. Don't get me wrong, church is very important and it's where you worship, etc. but I think some people get "power" and lose sight of what it's really about.

Yes...you are right. People who get into power positions sometime let it go to their head.

In one instance (maybe more then 1...I can't quite remember) that God says its okay for the divorce.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong!

Exactly...........

A lot of times a church is a mere social club for people to meet and great every week.

My sister got a divorce and it was the best thing that ever happened to her!

I'd have to agree there. It's more of something to do and socialize (or gossip). The church I used to go to had what we called "the blue haired row". A bunch of old women that always sat together, and if you heard some of the things they gossiped about... wow.

anyone go to a church where during the music service there are ppl who have their hands up. i'm not sure what they are trying to do, always seemed odd to me when i'd go to a diff church and saw this

No one can argue that God wants you to stay in an abusive relationship!

That is crazy...........

Yes...sometimes there are people who do it at mine. However, you can tell when the people are truly sincere and the people who are doing it for a show.

I, personally, have done it many times before.

Someone said it, and I can't remember who it was for the life of me right now, but they said that church was basically a place to go to show off your clothes.

I admit I grew up in a strict church where there was no emotion allowed.........

The church I currently attend people throw their hands up, cheer, cry...... I didn't know what to think about it.....

Then I learned that is a person being real....... humans are emotional and if you can't get excited over Jesus........ well I feel sorry for you...

Jesus tells us that we are committing adultery if we get a divorce for any reason other marital unfaithfulness. I think though there are times that in the best interest of the person, divorce is necessary. It is also not right for the any member of the church, especially a preacher to judge and treat someone differently if they get a divorce. There's never a reason for that.

I'm not big on the fire and brimstone preachers... just say what you got to say without yelling. I've never been, but a cousin of mine attended a church where they danced around etc, and one man stood up and said he was possesed by a demon (I forget the name of the demon) and started speaking in tongues etc. While I believe that all of that really happens, you have to admit it would throw anyone off.

Without fail! It was a given. It is a form of praise from what I understand.

I grew up in a church like that......

I wear shorts, sandals and a hawaiian shirt every Sunday.

Heck I do it in the winter!

Divorce IS too easy these days, but it goes back to the Salvation test for me and divorce does not exclude you from Salvation.
The Church was correct to try and help, I said HELP, not take a side. Your family should have been lifted up, not torn down by the preacher.

ya if someone was beating my daughter, i promise you their days would be numbered. i knw I'd have to answer for it on earth and in Heaven, but that's something you wld not get away with

i guess i'm just really traditional

I am traditional to a certain extent. If I am with a bunch of people my age in a worship setting other then a sanctuary I tend to not be as traditional. However, in the sanctuary I am. I believe that in the sanctuary it is a place of reverence.

I agree to a point, but trust me, it was taking sides, and the last thing my mother needed at that point.
